I'm a fan. Very cool speakeasy vibe, which begins with trying to find the damn building (there's no sign other than a tiny plaque on the wall) in a tiny, quiet Parisian street. Cocktails were a nice change of pace from what was a wine-filled week in Paris. The inside is dark -- perfect for a night out with friends or a hot date. Not much room to sit, but we found a spot on the corner of the bar to set our drinks, chat, and enjoy the delicious cocktails. Everything I had was fantastic, but that was to be expected as the very helpful bartender made drinks specifically based on what I told him I like. Experimental Cocktail Club is a small bar with a few tables and four or five bar stools. It can get pretty crowded at times but it's definitely worth checking out if you're a craft cocktail fan. These guys really know their stuff and this is a great place to visit for your favorite cocktail or to dabble in new ones. On one particular night I was there, I really had a craving for a Bobby Burns which is whiskey, sweet vermouth and bénédictine. As soon as I ordered it I was pleasantly surprised that the server immediately knew what it was. And not only, that but pretty much said it's one of her favorite drinks. I knew I was in the right place! Besides that, you can pretty much order anything here or if you're feel adventurous, you can tell the server or bartender what you like or are looking for in a cocktail and they'll come up with some recommendations for you. As an American with barely any French knowledge, I appreciate businesses that are kind and forgiving of my dumb foreign ways as I fumble through a language I have basically zero skill in communicating with. ECC was lovely to my group of 3, although it should be noted that we did have a native French companion with us to help with the language barrier. What I appreciated most about ECC was that upon collecting the tab at the end of the night, they'd noticed that I didn't drink much of my cocktail--without hesitating, the waitress asked if I enjoyed it or not. I didn't want to be rude so I said "it's lovely, just a bit too strong for me at this point in the night (mind you, it was near 3AM at this point!)." The waitress scooped up the glass and said "No worry, we won't charge you for it!" That level of care and compassion doesn't go unnoticed, and despite all of us insisting on paying for the drink, she didn't add it to the bill. On top of lovely staff, the ambience is a bit more subdued than the other touristy speakeasies in town, with enough space between groups to hold a comfortable conversation. Be courteous and genteel and you'll have a lovely time here. read more

This place was one of the highlights of our trip. We walked by it three times without realising we were there, but once inside I knew I had found my home away from home. Dimly lit with 30's French Jazz welcoming us in, they had me at hello. As others had said it gets rather crowded. We came on a Wednesday and it was pretty busy. I'd hate to think how insane it would be on the weekend. The cocktails are well thought out an executed. This is a place to truly sit and enjoy your cocktail with good company, while taking in the ambience. This bar is a nice place to relax in a great location of Paris. I believe it is more geared to tourists as everyone in the bar on a Sunday night was American or British. They played great hip hop music, both old school and new tunes, which I loved, but may not be for you if you want to listen to Spanish music or top 40 hits. The drinks were very expensive, around 15€ a cocktail but very delicious. The wife and I love a smartly conceived, well made cocktail. I searched Yelp for the best cocktail bars the city had to offer. Experimental Cocktail Club rose to the top of my search as its reviews were very positive and its description by fellow Yelpers seemed to be exactly the kind of cocktail bar that we typically enjoy. Described as a speakeasy, Experimental Cocktail Club was tucked away on a side street that wasn't much more than an alley. Unlike some other speakeasies I've been, ECC did have a very small sign outside the door and didn't require some "secret" password to gain entrance. This was a good thing since I much prefer not having to perform stupid human tricks to get a drink. We arrived not long after it opened on a Friday night for a pre-dinner drink. Most of the seats at the bar and the small couches/chairs at low tables around the small room were already taken. Fortunately, we were able to snag to seats at the end of the bar. I had to laugh at the interesting choice of music that was playing in the background, Bob Dylan singing Christmas classics. Hilarious! I digress... The cocktail list, while not overly long, was comprised of some very interesting and original cocktails using spirits and ingredients I had not seen used back in the States. Our bartender, Max, was friendly and quite skilled in mixing a great drink. My first drink, the Coing-Coing, was very enjoyable and led to me having a second, the La Vieux Cheval. Both cocktails were nicely balanced and hit my desired boozy and bitter notes without being overly sweet to my palate. Big successes! Frankly, I had never heard of Experimental Cocktail Club prior to coming to Paris, so I was unaware that there were other ECCs in both London and NYC. That said, the Paris original Experimental Cocktail Club lived up to, if not surpassed, my expectations. Its very cool vibe felt more like New York's LES and its cocktails were as good as any I've found elsewhere in my travels. Yes, drinks were a bit pricey especially given the dollar to euro conversion, but it was worth it to me. I highly recommend. read more

If you are visiting Paris, you must go here. After weeks of wine (which isn't a bad thing, but still), we were craving some good cocktails. However, most of the places we went charged over 20 euros for one watered down well-drink. While we understand that Paris is expensive, we weren't comfortable dropping 200 euros just to get a buzz going! Luckily, we discovered the Experimental Cocktail club. While this certainly isn't a cheap place (drinks run from 13-17 euros each), it wasn't ridiculously expensive and that drinks were amazing. We arrived pretty early, around 19h30, before a dinner reservation. It was empty at first and we got seats right at the bar. The bartenders were welcoming and so fun to chat with. The place quickly filled up, and was almost full within an hour. The seats are comfortable, and while it is a small place, it is a great environment with a very fun vibe. Now let's get to the drinks. While I realize this is very American of me, I was so excited to see the amount of ice that was used in crafting the cocktails. Finally, I wasn't going to have to deal with a luke-warm drink with one ice cube! I was so excited. After being completely unsure of what to order, I discussed my likes and dislikes with the bartender who made a suggestion. ALWAYS LISTEN TO THEIR SUGGESTIONS! He was spot on and I ended up drinking quite a few before leaving for a dinner reservation! They were also creating a new cocktail while we were sitting at the bar and let us sample and give our opinion. It was great. This is a creative cocktail bar, so while they have the capabilities of making you a gin and tonic, this isn't what you should expect. Be adventurous, have the drink with the raw egg in it! We come to the well-kept Montroguel neighborhood and are keeping a weary-eye out for the Bar. Then, we find a dark alley. And we look at each other seeing who is gonna go first. Luckily some other American tourists went ahead of us and we followed. The Black girl does not get killed first in this Horror Flick. We found the address and I thought this place looks like a dump. Then I realized it was next door. Much Better. We go in and we are in Speakeasy Heaven. Very dim and sexy, the waiter was handsome. OMG French men are good looking. And we got a seat quickly. The couple next to us we strange to say the least. Decor - It was dark I have no idea what the decor looked like. I went to the bathroom and I saw a door and said to myself "Prive = Bathroom" it doesn't. It means stay the hell out. Sorry. I found the bathroom and it was just as dark in there. But I looked sexy. Service - Was great as usual. FYI, the French are fabulous to beautiful American Women.... The Drinks - were delicious, but not the best. Their Old Cuban wasn't as subtle as at Prescription Cocktail Club, but good nonetheless. I don't remember the names of the other drinks our group had, but they were all good. Stopped in for a post dinner drink. The place was dimly lit, relatively small, but we didn't have to wait to get in. The place feels like that speakeasy vibe but you don't really have to search to find the place at all. Lots of cocktails and some very inventive ones. After having missed its NYC location (have no clue why it closed), I was excited to try the original Paris location. We came on a Tuesday night, pretty close to closing, so there was zero wait and we were ushered right away to an awesome seat. The ambience was dark, cozy, great music, honestly a typical speakeasy vibe that I would find at any good NY one. I loved the chandeliers and the music was great. The waiters and staff were friendly and unpretentious. As per Yelp reviews I tried the Experience 1 and my boyfriend the Old Cuban. We were both very happy with our drinks. This place is right around the corner from an Airbnb that we stay at frequently. We stopped in recently for some late night cocktails. Our bartender, Matthew, was incredibly friendly. He talked through the type of cocktails we typically like and made us some cocktails based on our preferences. They were outstanding! During conversation, we mentioned that we were heading to London the following day. He then wrote down a list of must try bars in London for us as he used to live there. We were extremely grateful for his kindness. We had a lovely experience here and will definitely go back. Cocktails here are good and very complex, and I enjoyed the drinks. Drinks are about 13-14 euros. The bartender is also very skillful at making many drinks at a time. But the space can get crowded, even on weekday nights, and the bouncer (young black man) is EXTREMELY rude and racist. PROPER, proper, PROPER craft cocktail bar. I'm so glad my brother-in-law and I stumbled here on a sleepy Tuesday night, as I always seek out cool cocktail bars when I visit a new city and this spot was on my radar for a few nights. We stopped by Hoppy Corner for a high ABV beer right before their closing and came here around midnight. If we came on a weekend night we'd probably be rejected at the door, but the bouncer quickly waived us in when he saw it was just us two. This tiny hidden speakeasy was pretty crowded, and upon walking through the heavy velvet drapes there was a humid warmth in the air, probably a byproduct of the straight fire that was coming out from behind the bar. There's one bartender here in a minuscule work space, and on this night this cocktail slinging maniac was busting his ass off mixing up amazing cocktail after cocktail at breakneck speed. Perhaps he was high on amphetamine, but it's more than likely he's just really incredible at his craft. I love watching guys like this work behind the stick, a true being of passion who brings joy to the countless spirit loving patrons that are lucky enough to sip on their expertly executed libations. Respect! The space is the quintessential speakeasy; very tight and dimly lit, with a minimalist yet sleek décor with juxtaposition abound. The modern dimly lit chandeliers contrasting against the worn, 150+ year old exposed brick walls with the thick wood beams jutting out and showing their extreme weathered age. A skinny bearded DJ was situated behind an old stand-up piano, mixing up eclectic beats of old school American hip-hop to French hip-hop/dance music on his Apple laptop. Pretty much the perfect watering hole setting for me! I scanned the cocktail list for the sole American whiskey based drink on there, I forget the name but it used Rittenhouse Rye as the main spirit and was served cold over a tall glass of ice. It reminded me of a refreshing, celery juice bloody mary and was perfect intro and cooling agent as I was sweating up a storm immediately upon entering! This drink wasn't nearly as boozy as I like it (I'm a barrel proof bourbon neat drinker over here!), so for our second round we opted for the litmus test of any good bar tender, the classic Old Fashioned. I spotted the now discontinued Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7-year rye, so I asked him to use that. Perfectly executed! For our last round I opted for the bartender's choice with the guidance "Whiskey based and BOOZY". And my mixologist idol didn't fail and produced a Japanese whiskey based drink that was boozy AF, while being very complex and delicious to sip on. A true master at his craft! I tipped the staff 10 euros because we were so pleased with our experience, and the bar-back poured us a couple big departing shots of Buffalo Trace (he asked what I liked to drink and it's a no brainer...bourbon!) We stumbled out of there close to 2am to a majestically beautiful empty cobblestone street in Paris. I had to take a picture which is now my iPhone wallpaper. The location was not good! We had to pass a street filled with black prostitutes! When we entered we had to wait like 10 min. behind the door because literally we couldnt move :S The place was 120% full. There was lots of foreigners especially americans! After traveling through wine and beer countries for a month, I've been craving a stiff cocktail. I saw that the bar in NYC had a location in London and Paris, and I made it a small quest to pass through each of the locations just to say I did. I came into the Paris location around 11:30 PM on a Wednesday, and it was nicely crowded, though not overly so. There was a DJ playing some chill music as well. It was nice to see some familiar liquor bottles (namely Rittenhouse!) on the wall. I had heard from my bartender friends that Experimental Cocktail Club tends to take a Japanese approach to cocktails and the majority of the signature drinks are less strong and more juice heavy. I wanted to see for myself. As I normally do when I go to a new cocktail bar, I introduced myself as a cocktail bartender and enthusiast, and asked the bartender to make me something fun. Margot made me a Rye whiskey based drink with Campari, Bonal, and Yuzu. It was smooth and nice to drink, though a bit weak. I also ordered a classic Aviation and Vieux Carré, both of which were solid. The cherry in particular in the Aviation was very good. Definitely confirmed what I'd heard of these guys' cocktails, but a solid and chill spot that I'd come back to if I'm ever in Paris again! read more

Fantastic! Me and my fiancé went for (quite) a few cocktails to celebrate our engagement. It's quite small and was busy but not crowded, after a little while we managed to get a seat at the bar and were able to have a chat with the very friendly batman who made up some drinks based on our favourite spirits, all of them were great. It's a really good bar and deserves the high reviews and the constant praise around all blogs about top Paris bars! But... The drinks are great and I was highly impressed with the waitresses response when I asked for something improvisational off of the Manhattan. I really like whisky and the one she used was a great one. More than anything (and this might, unfortunately because I'm obviously American) I was impressed with the fact they have no whiskies from the US. They had Tons of Japanese Whiskies among others. The atmosphere was good. The bar tenders definitely were not overly friendly and that was one of the definite downfalls. The other annoying part was the fact my bf and I were essentially given two options for seating: a tiny space in the corner or the bar, that obviously intruded on two peoples personal space, or the bar. This was despite the fact there was obviously other space available. *oh and finally, and a small thing considering you go there to get an alcoholic drink: I greatly appreciate the fact that they provide cucumber water. Call me particular, but I've had cucumber water that seems like someone is trying to cover the bad taste of their water - this is just great water. read more

My friend who lives in Paris and I came one Saturday night as I'd miss my chance to visit the London location. The security (something doesn't feel right about calling him a bouncer in Paris haha) gave us a long look up and down before ALLOWING us to step in the doors to the unmarked establishment. We got lock and snagged two seats in the corner. The waiter was EXTREMELY energetic and friendly. Almost questionably so-haha. I told him I wanted something sweet and his recommendation was great! I don't recall the names of the 3 different drinks I had tried, but each one was delicious and meticulously crafted.
