High Price, Disappointing Results…read more I'm sharing my experience with this tailor in a neutral and factual way, hoping it will be helpful to others. Before coming here, I had visited two other tailors but chose not to leave my coat with them for various reasons. I mentioned this to the tailor. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. When I arrived, the tailor spoke at length about his experience and the places he had worked around the world. The price quoted was $75 plus tax, which is higher than what other tailors had offered, but I decided to proceed based on his confidence and self-presentation. I requested a sleeve shortening and specifically asked for the stitching to match the original. When I picked up the coat, I was disappointed. The sleeve stitching was not straight and did not match the original style, which was surprising given the emphasis on his 20+ years of experience. Overall, my experience was not very positive, especially considering the higher price compared to other tailors.

My only issue with the dress, was that it was too long in the front. I asked to keep the dress long, but that I needed the front a bit shorter so I could walk without tripping. I had expected the altered result to look something like the second image. However, the dress came out with an added seam and unevenly long. The dress itself and the tail were now two different parts, and the dress flowed completely differently. Not to mention, despite the ends of the dress being trimmed, there was two added seams making something that looked like a belt pattern in the middle of the torso. Nothing was mentioned about this, and it looked terribly odd only in the front and with a backless dress. When visiting, the change rooms were dark and had almost no light, minus the light shining in from the other side of the curtain. I had brought in my dress 4 days before needing it. However, on the day of needing it, a few hours before I was supposed to pick it up, I was asked to come in again because he had forgotten to mark the dress. I trusted Silk Tailor with a dress I had genuinely loved so much, and had needed for an important event, and now I'm left with a dress I feel ashamed to wear to such a special occasion. I'm planning to completely replace the dress if I can. I'm not sure if the images are posting properly, there should be 8 of them. They might not be in order as well, so just go by photo caption.

I saw the finished work and am very pleased in the way the final stitching is done as if bought from a store. The pleasant young lady who served me was right about the approach to shortening and what kind of stitching. Afterall, she has the experience not me. When the store moved lower from the upper floor, I thought I lost it. I would recommend this store to anyone who asks for alterations. I can't recommend Pearl Alterations highly enough…read more I had purchased a beautiful designer satin gown online for an important family wedding in the UK, but when it arrived just a week before I was due to leave, it was almost two sizes too large. I immediately called my usual alterations shop, but they were fully booked and couldn't fit me in. After reading the excellent reviews for Pearl Alterations, I decided to call. The owner encouraged me to come in straight away, explaining that once he saw the dress he could give me a quote and let me know if it could be completed before my flight. From the moment I met him, he was warm and welcoming. He immediately put me at ease during what was quite a stressful situation, and I felt confident that my dress was in experienced hands. When I tried the dress on, I honestly wasn't optimistic. It fit terribly around the bust and I couldn't imagine how it could ever look flattering. Within minutes, using just a few pins, he completely transformed the fit. I could suddenly see the beautiful dress I'd hoped I'd bought! The workmanship was exceptional. Satin is notoriously difficult to alter, but every change was beautifully executed and completely invisible. The dress now fits as though it was custom made for me. What impressed me even more was his professionalism and attention to detail. He had the dress finished two days before my flight, giving us time for any final adjustments if needed. Thankfully, none were necessary because the fit was absolutely perfect. During our conversation, I learned he has over 40 years of tailoring experience, and it certainly shows. I was also pleasantly surprised by how fair and honest his pricing was. I felt the cost was extremely reasonable and represented excellent value for the quality of workmanship. I'm absolutely thrilled with the result and so grateful to have found such an outstanding tailor. My wife went in to address a clear mistake on an alteration, and instead of handling the situation professionally, the owner she spoke with was extremely rude and dismissive. The tone and behavior came across as outright misogynistic, which is both shocking and unacceptable in this day and age. What's worse is that we've trusted this business for so long, but this experience completely shattered that trust. I cannot recommend this shop anymore. Treating loyal customers--and anyone, for that matter--with respect should be the bare minimum.

I have now had two garments taken care d here, and have nothing but good things to say…read more I had a pair of jeans hemmed while I waited last summer, which I don't think is normally possible, but Nasir seemed to sense my desperation! A simple task, but done neatly nonetheless. I am a frequent vintage shopper and love 50s era shirtdresses for work. I'd found a lovely Neiman Marcus at goodwill that was soft as butter but the proportions were off in a way that I wasn't really able to quantify and I wasn't wearing it. I took it in and he fit me on the spot. I largely let him use his discretion to modernize the fit (as he also makes made to measure items and I was confident in his eye.) $50 and 10 days later I picked it up. The hem had was raised about 18" and thoughtfully recut to be slightly lower in the sides. A personal choice that he immediately explained and offered to switch to something more conventional but it was a lovely tweak. It was taken in perfectly through the torso, and the sleeves had been dismantled and rebuilt in a more flattering fashion. Wonderful. Love this guy.
