Stanford Express Care is nice to have to be seen on any day of the week if they have availability. Their appts are usually always booked here and I understand why. It's easy to find but I don't like having to pay for parking if over an hour. They are a clean and modern facility. Plenty of seats to separate you from others that are sick. They do recommend that all staff and patients wear the disposable masks which is good practice. The staff are friendly, caring and helpful. I would come back here again when needed. This facility is a billing scam waiting for you to reaching out to them in your most desperate time only to billing thousands of dollars in hospital fees that you did not expect to pay. I was able to schedule a same day appointment for an urgent but not critical allergic reaction with my eye. I was seen promptly and my concerns were heard but by the time I got to the appointment the bulk of my symptoms had subsided so there wasn't much to be done. Still the doctor took his time with me and assured me I was ok and gave me additional steps if it were to recur. I was on my way pretty fast so I didn't even end up having to pay for parking! read more

meaning 3 to 4 stars I've been there a few times and had ultimately good experiences there. If you arrive and no physician is present you need to be capable to know you need to see a physician due to the nature of your issue you bring if you do. I have arrived with a PA student was present only. That was not good but in the end it worked out OK. Stand up for your self if you need to in this regard. Or go to PAMF urgent care walk in at 795 El Camino. You will see a doc and a senior specialist will be engaged by telephone at least by those docs if it is called for. read more

Arrive and be seen by physician I booked an appointment for my husband and myself via phone (can't book through Stanford's MyHealth). We arrived, parked in the parking garage, checked into the reception area and was seen by a doctor. My husband was misdiagnosed by his chiropractor, his chiropractor thought he had the start of shingles when in fact he didn't. We didn't want to take a chance so we went to SHCE. The doctor we were seen by had worked with other Stanford doctors we've been seen by. She was professional, kind and made sure we were well. My husband and I are seen by a doctor at the Stanford Internal Medicine Group in the same building but on the 3rd floor. The laboratory for blood work and the Walgreens Pharmacy are located on the first floor. Bottom line- we had an excellent experience and our wait time was relatively short. If you're already patients with a Stanford PCP you'll get notes updated in your MyHealth account. Save yourself the trouble and go to any Sutter Health facility or El Camino Hospital, etc. These people have no problem wasting your time and your money and leaving you with nothing to show for it. They literally cannot do anything in this clinic besides ask you whats wrong and give you advice. I showed up here presenting that I hadn't eaten in 3 days, constantly vomiting, sweating all through the night- and yet these people claim they do not have the authority to give a bag of IV fluids. I usually receive great care and service from most of the Stanford locations but there was an exception this time. I came here with a friend who wound up needing x-rays for a sports injury. We were sent to this location from another Express Care in San Jose. We were assured by the doctor in San Jose that they would take us ASAP for the semi-not-quite-emergency at hand. When we got there we checked in and explained the situation. The administrative staff were able to see that the request came in from the doctor in San Jose and we were told to sit tight. The wait wound up being 3 hours and we were told multiple times that the doctor was almosttt ready. Apparently he was dealing with a tricky situation. The odd part is that when we checked in, I asked if they had any appointments available since I might need one. I was told that there was one available at 6pm same day (2 hours from when we first checked in). I thought there was no way we'd be there for a full 2 hours so I declined. 3 hours later the only question on my mind was why didn't they just book us with literally any other doctor that was available? I could hear them constantly whispering unprofessionally about our case as if it was gossip worthy for TMZ. Stuff along the lines of "so Dr ___ from San Jose sent over that patient that's sitting over there...yeah that guy...yeah they transferred him...yeah like all the way from San Jose...oh em gee!!!". A tip to this Express Care - try hiring staff that are mature and professional enough to handle these situations. Our medical condition wasn't anything scandalous and didn't cause us any embarrassment but if they were this excited about our case, think about ALL the crap they must say about other people. It's not a big waiting room. Everyone can hear. The only "pluses": (1) free and fast wifi that kept me placated, (2) many outlets for laptop use or other mobile device charging, and (3) clean bathrooms. I tend to want to minimize my exposure to sick people at doctor's offices so being there for as little time as possible would have been preferable. read more

Expensive. Really, really expensive. I went and got a strep culture. They sent me a bill for $659. Since I have good insurance, I only had to pay $320. That's just for the simple test; it doesn't include the copay for the nurse visit. For comparison, PAMF lists a price of $51 for the same test, and CVS offers it for $35. I thought there must be a mistake, but I called and they were like, nope, that's what we charge. Wow. Other than that, I will say that it's conveniently located and the lobby is lovely. read more

I am lying here suffering at 9:30 pm because the non doctor I saw didn't want to provide the treatment that has worked in the past. I have lived in Menlo Park for 58 years. Never patronized Stanford. Never had a need. Thank god. Floozy receptionist. Pretend dr plus student did not address my allergic reaction and treat it properly. She sent my prescription electronically to Orange County! WTF? Dr much? Pretty scary. Was supposed to go a short distance in the same building in northern CA. Get rid of such an horrible attempt at health care. I had a great experience recently being treated by Stanford Express Care. I was easily able to get a same day appointment. The whole staff was very friendly and polite, making an awkward and painful illness much more bearable. I showed up early and did not have to wait to be seen. The doctor, Linda, was very friendly, quick, and professional. She made me feel like I was in good hands. The appointment only lasted an hour, much quicker than other urgent cares I've been to. Yeah this place is really good if you get sick and need a doctor to look at you asap (call ahead for an appointment though if the online reservation system is only showing the next day, etc. -- sometimes more space the same day). Got a horrible sore throat. Scheduled an appointment. Didn't have to wait much. Personable, friendly, knowledgeable doctor. Got a rapid strep test. Came back positive, got antibiotics at the on-site pharmacy. Day later, got cured. Check your insurance though. And even with insurance, if you're on a budget, ask what your lab costs might be (because they do them often at the hospital, they will often cost more than if you requested them somewhere else -- e.g., Quest if they're not as urgent). read more

I am very disappointed with Stanford's express care. I guess i should have read the other reviews about their arrogant billing department. I was diagnosed with E.Coli, thats it, just diagnosed, no treatment, no medication, no direction. I was told that they couldn't do anything for me except do blood work. The bill for that visit was over $6,000! My insurance covered all but $400. But even still, $400 out of pocket for the doctor to pat me on the back and tell me ill be okay. I called the billing department to confirm that this was correct and I was basically laughed at. I think the exact words were "if you cannot afford to come to Stanford then maybe you should find a different doctor in the future". Welp, looks like my Christmas budget just got that much tighter.. read more

This is review for Mirella Nguyen (Nurse practitioner). I would highly recommend not to see her because she doesn't have a heart for the patient. I want to give her zero star. I don't even understand why Stanford hire her in express care to see patient. It is a shame for the team. She is ruining the reputation for Stanford. (Stanford charges way more expensive than a regular hospital, at least this is not the service matches the charge. ) Mirella Nguyen is very unprofessional and unethical. I was a few minutes late (driving from San Francisco to Stanford), she already left for home. I even tried to call stanford multiples times on the road, no one picks up the phone. You can argue that's policy, but honestly how many times we have to wait for hours because doctor is late?! Not fair, right? I'm so disappointed with stanfords er Dr. Alvarez, al' al. My first time there and i had high hopes. I have lupus, rheumatoid arthritus and hashimotos. Went there for terrible stomach pain that was ongoing and because i wanted to see an actual dr and not a student they treated me poorly and said if I'm not vomiting blood and have blood in my feces then its not an emergency. Charged me 4,500.oo and didnt do any ultrasounds or tests other than blood test. I'm still in so much pain and Dr. Alvarez, Al, Ai was too important to be bothered. read more

I received great care that was speedy and friendly at Stanford Express Care. From the time I called to see if they accepted my insurance to the time I checked out, every person I encountered showed exceptional professionalism and excellent customer service. When you're sick, the last thing you want is bad service. I was gonna give this place four stars because that's my standard for "pretty good", but now that I think about it, it deserves five. This type of place is all about the service, and the representative on the phone, receptionists, medical assistant, and nurse practitioner were all really nice. I didn't encounter any issues, and everyone made it a point to see that I was cared for well. Actually aside from the modern facility and empty patient waiting room, I was not that impressed. I waited 2 hours to see a physician for a pink eye although I was literally the only patient waiting for 2 hours, then ended up with a physician assistant who looked at my eye for a couple minutes without any thorough exam to assess how much irritation there was. My wife's examining my eye was even more thorough than that. They sent me a bill for $357 for seeing a physician assistant (no doctor ever showed up). I had an unusual situation. I had to give myself Lovenox (blood thinner) shots and hadn't been trained on how to do so. The NP I saw here wasn't able to give me the shots (since they didn't prescribe it), but he was patient and walked me through how to do the procedure myself. I was very grateful and he said I could come back that evening when I had to give myself another shot which I did. Both times, he was patient and extremely helpful and kind. Thank you! read more

Very dishonest billing practices. We went in to the express care for a UTI treatment on 4th of July since this was the only open clinic. We knew what the problem was from a previous visit just a week ago and just needed a refill of the prescription for antibiotics for the same issue. We were asked by the doctor if we wanted a urine culture test and we declined having to do any culture test since we have a high deductible plan. The hospital continued to do their test because of their own ignorance of not reading the doctor's notes and sent us a bill for 764$. Fortunately we had a copy of the doctor's note which said specifically not to do the test. The billing department refused to read their own records upon requesting a review of the charges. We had to spend several hours on phone conversations and back and forth with the billing department telling them how to do their job. They now acknowledge that the test was not authorized. They continue to say that we still owe a part of the bill for some "other tests" that were done. Can we really trust this business after being so dishonest with a customer? I hope the people at Stanford take a look at this review. My experience with their customer service department has been very dissatisfactory. read more

It was my first visit here and I came in an hour early. They actually called me in earlier and stated Dr. Barman was behind so they wanted to start my vital first. I was seen by Sandra Yee/ NP and she took my vital & documented my case. Soon after that, Dr. Barman came in to see me on time. I was really happy about their professionism and being so efficient. It is way better than my PAMF experience. Not to mention they being so personable and attentive to my case. Overall a fabulous experience from the online appointment to the pharmacy. My mother is in the hospital here at Stanford and my husband came to visit but had what looked to be like pink eye. I made him a same day appt online, they took us into the room early, the NP and admissions gal were very thorough and we were able to get a prescription right away in the downstairs pharmacy. We are not from this area and when we usually go to the urgent care, we end up waiting hours on end, in a packed waiting room full of sick people, and an overall exhausting experience. I saw an amazing doctor here. I had a issue that was worse that day, and he immediately did everything he could to figure out what was wrong. And then referred me to the the clinic to get diagnosed. Which ended up diagnosing a condition I've had my whole life other doctors ignored. I've been back a few times. I have odd issues, but they are always thorough, helpful, and kind. And they treat you with respect. Also one thing no where else has done-they give you the medicine while you are there to see if it helps before you leave. Which actually totally changed my world on one visit. Thanks to the great care I received here I was finally able to find some answers that other doctors dismissed or misdiagnosed. read more

I have been here twice in a week, once for strep and the other for pink eye, and both times I got an immediate appointment (first was through booking online and second booking via phone). My PCP had no same day appointment and so decided to give it a try. I didn't expect much (as I know the wait times at the hospital!). But here the doctors and RNs see you on time. Like all Stanford doctors they have impeccable bedside manners. The ladies making the appointment have a warm welcoming tone (and not angry that you called). The doctors do a thorough job. I'm more comfortable seeing the doctors here than my PCP who finds it impossible to provide same day or next day or even 3 day later appointments. Wonderful hands down! My family usually goes to PAMF since PAMF clinics are closer to us and they offer urgent care. Lately, we haven't been happy with the service at urgent care. We tried out Stanford express care since I heard through the grapevine that service is much better, cleaner, and all around offers a better visit. Turns out, that the news via the grapevine is correct. We had to drive a bit further but it all helps in the end. I was able to make a same day appointment without having to sit 3 plus hours at an urgent care clinic with everyone else that is sick. We were able to wait in the comfort of our own home. Check in at the Stanford Express Care was great! Fast, friendly, and attentive to our needs. Our appointment was on time, and everything was covered. The clinic was quiet! Just lovely and completely stress free! We were not rushed and took the time to make sure that we were comfortable and happy. The most important item that I noticed after leaving was that we felt very positive and left on a very positive note even while fighting that crazy flu that everyone has. We felt that we are in the mend just after visiting. LOVE the positive attitude and the detail in care without rushing us in and out like they do at an urgent care facility. I wanted to post my amazing experience with this express care clinic. So yesterday I got bit by my cat multiple times and the bite had started to develop redness over my finger within an hour or so after being bit. I called this clinic, and from the secretary on the phone who was professional and very kind, made me an appointment to see the doctor in an hour from when I called. So to sweeten the deal, I came in, check in was very smooth and quick. I got taken in even before I was done registering and went into a well kept room, and then spoke to the MA who was genuine and took my vitals. Less than 5 minutes of the MA leaving, the doctor came in. She took the time to listen, asses me and go over the treatment plan she wanted to start. The doctor was very thorough, answered all my questions and explained everything in great detail. In the end I was sent home with antibiotics and strict clear instructions on when to come back if there were problems. The visit was far more than I had expected. Staff from the beginning phone call to the registration, MA, and Doctor, well I was very impressed. Will definitely be back if I ever need care for minor care! Don't expect much if they are required to think. I needed an updated MRI test done for an existing condition before a specialist would see me. All I needed was for a doctor at express care to order the test. This simple task was made very complicated because two different doctors at the EC clinic wanted to waste their time and mine to come in and "evaluate" me first. Such a joke because all I was doing is switching to an in network specialist from my out of network specialist. Very unprofessional. Doctors acting as if they know more than the customer. read more

I have been going to numerous doctors and have encountered multiple health care providers but there's one that really took the time out to understand my concerns. I was experiencing stomach issues including nausea. This was my first time at this location and was busy. Even though it was busy, I felt that Neema Patel really took the time out to figure out why I was having these issues. She is very knowledgeable, empathetic, and got down to the source of the problems. After her recommendation, the stomach issues resolved.
