I don't normally write reviews, however I…read morehave been soo horrendously disappointed and outraged with this shop and the owner, that I felt it only right that I forewarn future customers. I took a bridesmaids dress in to be shortened to an agreed length the whole way round (just slightly off the floor when wearing a slight heel). However the dress returned to me was only the correct length at the front, before proceeding to a longer length at the back (ie, it now had a train). Upon speaking to the owner about this, she refused to take any responsibility and instead blamed myself and even the dress itself. Additionally the stitch work was poor and I could've done a better job myself! I sent the owner pictures evidencing this, however she then went on to lie further, claiming this was not her work. She refused to rectify the issue unless I pay more money, having already wasted £45!! Additionally, she would not resolve the issue by giving me a refund, again still claiming the stitch work was not hers, yet in contradiction to this, also claimed the work had been completed to the agreed specification. I was extremely disgusted by the attitude of the owner and her inability to take responsibility or sufficiently resolve the issue. I will be ensuring no friends or family ever utilise this shop, to prevent their disappointment.

In short I would recommend for basic alterations, but not for the more complex things i.e. bringing in the shoulders on a suit jacket This is exactly what I did last year and the lady (who was lovely and helpful) just couldn't get it right. The suit was for a wedding and Top stitch were tasked with making my jacket a snugger fit on me - waist and shoulders. The lady assured me that she does them all the time and has 20 years experience. Unfortunately she couldn't get it right, and after attending 3 times to pick it up and having to have it re-altered each time I ended up having to take it to somewhere else as I couldn't wait any longer... they said there was nothing they could do. Then just last week I got the suit out again (after wearing it just the once since it was altered) and centre seam running down the back had started to come undone - a hole I could put my finger through. As it was a straight seam and very easy to fix I took it back to Top Stitch and the lady fixed it for free. So really happy with her service.

Had he of politely said 'Sorry, I don't' I would still have made the purchase, however the level of disrespect I received in front of a friend, made sure this nasty man did not get my business, I would avoid this shop like the plague. It's almost too pricey for the common Brightonian, but prices do start quite low, and can be even cheaper if you buy off the rack, and there are some very nice items on there as well! There's even a women's section: everything you might need from a bespoke tailors, really. The main problem here is price: these aren't prices for mortals, I feel. Still, when you enter the shop, you are treated well, even you don't hand over an American Express Gold card upon entry. However, without the necessary cash, much of what Gresham Blake offers will forever be closed to you. I wish I had the cash to get a tailor made suit here, I'd go for something really original and different (definitely some shades of pink), but that will remain a pipe-dream for some time, I feel.
