We've been customers of them for years, but after this past couple of visits we won't be going back. They've gotten cheap on their lenses. My wife got replacement lenses for her computer glasses and now can't wear them because they're worse than the old ones. I got replacement lenses for my progressives, and there's now a rainbow effect when I look through the top or bottom edge near the frame. Plus the distance prescription in them is not as clear as in the bifocal they made me just a few months earlier. When I took mine back and told them, they "checked the lenses" and told me the prescription was right, and that I should go back to my eye doctor. Yeah, right. read more

The temple piece on my glasses was broke. I had been wearing my old glasses for months, then the same part of those broke. I was wearing glasses held together with tape when I went in. Eyeglass Factory found a piece that worked with my glasses and repaired them without even charging me! I was in tears, so relieved to have glasses that weren't shifting and distorting my vision (because trifocals) and so grateful for this kindness and humanity. My wife broke her glasses and was frantic to get them fixed asap. I goggled glasses repair shops and liked the look of the Eyeglass Factory so we jumped in the car and headed over. We were greeted by a lovely young lady when we arrived and showed her the issue with my wife's glasses. She took them right away and fixed them on the spot. When I asked her what I owed her for the repair she said "no charge", it's our pleasure to help". I was astonished. When was the last time anyone did anything just to be helpful at no charge. I showed up for my 10:30 am appointment at 10:20 & was told I was late. I had called and requested an early appointment @ 9 am and the optometrist said he doesn't come in until 10. I said 10 was OK, but he said he wants to "set up." So we agreed on 10:30. But when I showed up he said that he "was early so he took someone else." I should have left then. The Eyeglass Factory is listed by my insurance Eyemed as a provider. Guess what? That's a lie. They "don't take Medicare," although this is an Advantage plan. Not only are they not an Eyemed provider, although they claim to be on Eyemed information, the doctor won't take the additional "Spendables" card offered by the Advantage provider for use on anything health-related. Obviously The Eye Factory isn't interested in the business of seniors. No problem. I won't be back. read more

Normally I and my H use the optical shop at my ophthalmologist office. Even if we use our insurance just to replace lenses in the same frame, it's over $400 each once coatings, transitions, progressives, etc., are tallied up. We also have to make an appointment, pay in advance, and then wait at least 10 days for our magic moment to come back in to pick up our glasses and have them fitted. So this year we decided to explore other alternatives. The concept of just walking in with a prescription, and walking out within an hour or two with shiny new glasses, was very attractive, even exciting. So, we decided to carve out a place in our schedules, to make the trip to Ventura to fill our prescriptions. We were so looking forward to the new experience and I was even considering new sport frames for racquet sports. In fact, I'm a bit like some of those eclectic women on TV. I hoped to have different glasses for different occasions. I had this visage of an enthusiastic optician, eager to sell us exactly what we needed, in record time. So, off we went, clutching our prescriptions, for a gruelling 45 minute drive there, in the rain. We entered the store to find it virtually empty, except for a guy in a mask at the back of the store, hunched over the chair-height counter, talking with a guy on the other side. We wandered the store long enough to peruse all the kiosks filled with various categories of frames, and tried on a few. Even when we got fairly close to mask-guy, he didn't look up. He didn't say, "Welcome! I'll be with you in x minutes." Or, how about tearing away from the current guy long enough to find out why we were there, and to direct us to categories we might consider, then return to the guy. It was as if we were invisible. Notwithstanding mask-guy's bad manners, we hung out a tad longer. I'd say we were there, unacknowledged, for at least 15 minutes. Then... I became angry. I thought to myself, Self? Here I am, trying to spend $1000+ and this dude couldn't care less. So, I turned to my H and said, "Let's go." And we did. I spent a fair amount of time in retail jewelry. I'm not an optician, but I probably spent as much, or more, time and practice to become a gemologist, as mask-guy did to become a tunnel-visioned optician. Although considered rather uncool to pre-judge; in sales, we actually do it all the time. For instance, an over-40 woman wanders in... that looks promising. She can probably afford something nice. But when she comes in with her partner? Ding-ding-ding! She's ready to buy. She's not "looking" or "getting ideas". She won't cop out with, "I'll need to talk to my husband. I'll be back." Those of us in higher-end sales know, there is no be-back bus. You walk a sale and you're done. That customer, complete with their money, walked out the door and will buy from your competitor. And that's what happened here. read more

I came in on a rainy Sunday in August when there was only one worker and only one other customer in the store. The worker never said a word to me as I waited and I walked around the store. I could see that she was only finishing the other customer's transaction but she continued to make jokes and seemed to be in no rush whatsoever. It was almost like she was prolonging the end of the other customers' transaction on purpose. She only told me that she would be right with me as she saw me sneak a peek at Yelp to see if there were other places that might be open at that time. That is why I'm leaving a review. She waited until then to acknowledge me. I left in exasperation even though I couldn't find any other place open at that time. I used to love going to this place. I'm very disappointed. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. All my friends (even with insurance) report spending 600 dollars for two pair. I'm an eyeglass snob. I wear used clothes, buy used furniture, get everything on Marketplace..... But I have never not worn designer glasses. Persol was 300 in the 1990s and I wore in college. I had a pair from eye boutique on Main Street in Santa Monica in 1991 that was 330 in those dollars! In 2017, I broke with tradition and got a pair of Barton Perreira. The one area I do not think about money: glasses. So imagine my shock when I picked up a pair of Guess glasses for 159. The first ones my eye moved to on the rack. Then a pair of Von Zipper. With the eye exam, the two came to 230 bucks. Crazy! And I love them. It was a BOGO offer. The exam is 69 but they deduct this when you spend over 140. But beyond the aesthetics, I can SEE! Who knew that there were trees on the mountain outside my SB apartment. I no longer have to wander aimlessly around CVS like a half-blind person to see what is in each aisle. Bonus: the wonderful O.D. from Wisconsin is a gem with the cutest German Shepherd! I am in love with Mia. I'm 20/20 close. Blind far. I don't even know what the number is but the eye test was quite amusing. She kept turning the knobs on that contraption and I realized then I was really not seeing well. Andrea is terrific too. This was a wonderful experience. I love being able to see. Didn't realize how bad it had gotten. My first inkling was in April when renting a car for charity (food delivery in NYC). In an unfamiliar part of Harlem, I noticed it was hard for me to see street signs when the GPS called them out. I love my glasses. Thank you, Eyeglass Factory! There's a reason they've been in business longer than I'm alive! P.S. An M.D. will run you 300 in SB for a full eye exam. I love the Santa Barbara Eyeglass Factory! Or Eyeglass Factory according to Yelp lol I stumbled upon their groupon and decided I needed a new pair of prescription eyeglasses (since the Prada eyeglasses I owned went back from 2007 and most of the rhinestones have fallen out lol). I went in looking for top notch name brands and the ones I fell in love with were purple Jimmy Choo frames! The price was $289 for the frames alone and I was able to save $100 with my groupon on my total purchase so it was as if I was paying $189 for those Jimmy Choos. With my cray vision, it took a week for my eyeglasses to get produced with the thin lens and they called me right away when they were done. Easy pick up and adjustment on site (which I had to return to the Camarillo SBEF to get another adjustment because it fit uncomfortably initially) but they did an overall awesome job! I'm really happy about my purchase and looking forward to wearing my cute frames :) I definitely recommend either Ventura or Camarillo locations because both businesses offer above and beyond customer service! read more

Last week I stopped by the Eye Glass factory to have my VERY EXPENSIVE eyeglasses adjusted, which they did on the spot. When I asked for some eyeglass cleaner (which they have graciously gifted me every time I've stopped in), I was told the charge would be $10. Huh. This is an outfit I have spent several thousand dollars on eye glasses with. The 2.5 fluid ounce bottle with their name brand on it, can't cost them but .50 cents. Maybe. The technician eager to ring up the charge was curt and not gracious. I felt embarrassed for asking for what used to be a small but nice benefit for being a real customer who actually comes into the store. If this storefront can't forward a paying customer a .50 cent bottle of cleaner, THAN I'M OUT. I can easily go online and get the same prescription with a better choice of frames for less, and not be disappointed with the most minimalist expectation of just a dash of customer service. No wonder businesses are succumbing to online business! The Eyeglass Factory just lost my next $2000 dollar purchase over .50 cents. read more

This was my first pair of prescription glass and Steven was exceptionally helpful in helping me pick a comfortable, fashionable pair of glasses and sunglasses. He took me the through whole progress of how to get adjusted to wearing transitions and answered ALLL my questions. I am very sensitive to light so he made sure the sunglasses would suit my needs as an artist who need to see contrast and details, but not all the glare. Be careful! I bought my glasses from the Eyeglass Factory through a Groupon purchase. The Groupon information doesn't mention all the add-ons that will be required at the store. (Groupon purchase doesn't include lightweight lenses, for example, a significant additional cost.) I was extremely disappointed in the selection of frames for smaller faces, and I finally ended up with frames that I thought would work. It wasn't until after the glasses were made that I realized the frames don't have breakaway hinges like most decent frames. It took two weeks to get my glasses, and they're the worst ones I've ever had. I won't be back, and I'll warn my friends and family to visit the place first and ask lots of questions before wasting their money. read more

They're nice enough but the lens quality was not very good and they are expensive. My partner and I purchased 6frams and lenses and the coating on all of them scratched quickly and were near impossible to clean. They attracted grease and dust and when we came back to them they said they didn't guarantee against scratches which were obviously our fault and gave use their cleaning solution, which they said is alcohol, to clean. Alcohol actually dissolves the coating. It should be ammonia (Windex). I was very unsatisfied. read more

When issues were pointed out to staff, they seemed accustomed to hearing complaints but, don't seem to have developed customer service skills. They acknowledged responsibility, offered a VERY limited & unsatisfactory option as the only remedy & NEVER apologized. They were offered the opportunity to make this right and didn't do right by me. Really disappointed by the whole experience. Wish they'd done better. I had talked to three employees, who did not respond well to breaking an expensive frame, bought in a boutique sort of store. However, the business owner has reached out, in an effort to improve my experience. He apologized, which was the right place to start and, has offered to make a more genuine effort to make it right. My brother told me about this place. I had a hard time finding glasses at Costco, and it takes mother freakingly at least a week and a half long to get yous glasses. Finally went to this place because I needed glasses a.s.a.p. Samantha, one of the employee at SB eyeglass Factory helped us out. I took forever in choosing which frames to get, they were my first pair, so I was being picky. It probably took me almost an hour to finally make a decision. Samantha tried to look for the pair I like in black, but I guess they sold the last pair, so I settled with dark brown [close enough to black]. She told us to come back in an hour to pick up my glasses, I was happy to hear that. The glasses here are not as bad, they don't rip you off like they do at Lens Crafters. My little brother bought a pair at Lens Crafters and found the same exact one here and only paid half or even more than half of what he paid at Lens Crafters. He ended up returning the ones he bought, and got the ones at SB eyeglass factory. I guess you can say, you can compare the prices with Costco I recommend this place if you need new pair of glasses =) read more

Not a business I would recommend anyone to deal with based on some very important things that happened to me. To give you some background I have been buying glasses since I was 13. So around 25 years I have been buying glasses from various shops. I originally visited this location because of the positive reviews. I have learned not to trust yelp reviews, as they often will get their employees and friends and workers to write 5 star reviews for them. On one occasion I left a negative review for a business and the owner offered to pay me $50 to remove it. So that goes to show you how much you can trust these reviews. I came to this location. It looked a little run down from the location. I came in and the place is very dim. Most eyeglass places are very bright. This is the first sign something is wrong. I brought them my frames and had lenses put in. Seemed simple enough. I come back the next day and get them. In the car I am looking at the glasses in the sun, and there is a mark within the lenses, but I had to meet someone and I shrugged it off as dirt or something they didnt clean. When I get home, and am walking in the sun, I am still seeing this mark within the lense, I try to wipe it off and it is not going away. I look closely and it is within the lense. So I drive all the way back to this location, and I am a little irritated at this point. I go back in the shop and I show the guy, and say look at these lenses in the light, there is a big mark within them, it is the size of a dime. He looks at them in the light, and says "oh yeah, I see that, they didn't buff them right". At this point I am somewhat shocked, and thinking what type of shit hole is this. What is very interesting, is I was reading these reviews, and someone else complained about the exact same thing. Well this worker, didn't give me an apology, and simply says, we will redo them, come back tomorrow. Now I had to go out of my way to drive back to this shit hole, and show them a mistake they created, and after they offer no apology, and simply say come back. So there is something wrong about how they deal with customers, and the mistakes they create with their own product. I have never in my life picked up a frame from any eye glass location and there was something immediately wrong with them, and then not be given an apology, or partial refund. It is almost like they are too ignorant to be human. Anyway, I come back the next day and pick them up the second time. They seemed fine. Well after a month I am looking very closely at the lenses in the light, and there are hundreds of these circular scratches on the lense. I also placed these glasses against a white shirt to look at them better and the right lense was a different color than the left one !!!! Also the left lense is flawless, but the right is severely scratched. So what I believe happened is they simply buffed the same right side lense a little more to remove that large mark within them, but they didn't fix the issue. I also just read a review that said his doctor laughed at the glasses he got from this place, because one lense was anti glare and the other wasn't, so I believe that exact same thing happened to me. AGAIN THIS PLACE IS A SHIT HOLE!! It may have to do with the quality of material they use, or the incompetence of their workers. What I find funny is someone who works at this place I found posted 2 5 star reviews for his own business, so that shows you that they get their employees to post reviews for them. I had seen this guy behind the counter, and I noticed he had posted 2, 5 star reviews the same day for both locations. First off how do you post 2 reviews for 2 different locations, on the same day. The review was removed by yelp after I told them. Also it seems someone at this company thinks this shit is comical, and they will click the little funny face on most of the negative reviews posted for this business. The worst part was not being given an apology for the crap glasses they gave me. It makes me feel like they hire some ignorant ass people to work for them. I should have got a refund at that point just for making me drive all the way back to this place. I need to treat people the way they treat me, I tend to be patient, and look over the mistakes people make out of kindness, but it doesn't help me in the end. Read the review about how they did this same thing twice to someone. Perhaps it only happens with the lenses for people that have a slight astigmatism. Look at the glasses you get in the light, and look at them from different angles, because this place is so dim you can only see it in the light. Make sure that if they do some crap like this to get a refund, and tell everyone you know about how much of a shit hole this is. It doesn't benefit customers to waste their time at shit hole establishments. read more

I had a bad experience before, but the customer service is excellent. My initial review I wasn't happy about the quality of my products. They would scratch so easily! Just by cleaning them in water. Well I got upgraded for free after being contacted by the business. They upgraded my lenses to Crizal lenses. I am SO MUCH happier now, and thankful that I was given the top quality lenses. The lenses I had previously, were the lowest option they had. I may have had an unrealistic expectation, considering the price and the materials. Those are the economic option, which is awesome, but they weren't as long lasting as previous places I've bought lenses from. I am very appreciative of the free upgrade, and will continue to patronize this establishment. Next time, I will be sure to get the Crizal lenses. They are anti-glare and scratch resistant. The quality is much better and definitely worth the price. While I was upgraded for free, I will spring for these options the next time I need a new pair! After having a pair for a mere 2 months, a screw fell off. Called ahead to see if they can fix it and came in. Wanted to avoid any extra trips to this place because my first experience with them, I had long wait times. Called in before picking it up, and found out they do not have the screw, but they can do a temporary fix. They gave another option which was to find another frame and they can refit the lens. I told them I might consider this when I have more time to do so. I had someone pick it up on my behalf, they had to wait 30 minutes just for the pickup. In my first experience, I had a bad wait time as well, so if you are picking up, I suggest voicing your need even if they are helping someone, or you may be standing there for a lot longer than you need. I'm sure they can find some help in the back to complete a quick transaction. I believe they should figure out another process to handle customer wait time, because I honestly do not plan to come back in the future after I see what they can do about my current pair. It is inconvenient that I would have to come back in to choose another frame because they do not have the proper screw. I hope I will not be charged extra or anything, but you would think they can offer something better considering the defect less than 90 days. read more

I posted a review last week but it seems as if it conveniently disappeared. I brought in 4 pairs of reading glasses when the store opened (0900) and was told that I'd have new lenses available to me by 12:00. Then I got a phone call about a hour or so later telling me that only one pair would be able to be ready because they didn't have the lenses in stock for the other 3 pair. The lenses had to be ordered and it would be 1 to 2 weeks before they'd be ready. Why isn't a business that advertises 24 hour service able to live up to its advertising? I would have preferred raving about how good this place was but I can't. read more

I purchased 2 pair of glasses at SB Eyeglass Factory a couple of months ago and the service was terrific. Both of my glasses were ready in 2 business days. Well a couple of days ago I stepped on one of my pair of glasses. So I went to SB Eyeglass Factory today figuring I'm going to have to pay another $125 for a new frame. I was greeted by Laura and she immediately found my replacement frames and popped my lenses back into the new frames and handed them back to me, making sure they fitted me perfectly like my first pair. She cleaned the lenses and said "ok your ready thank you for coming in".. I was surprised and asked her how much do I owe you. Laura says, "No Charge". I was like are you sure and she said " yes no charge"!!! Thank you so much Laura for your great customer service, I really appreciate your help and not charging me for my replacement frames. read more
