Mitchell came to my home and we spent hours designing a system including not only all of the typical stuff such as door and window sensors and motion detectors, but also glass break monitors and water alarms for the laundry room and sump pump areas. Mitchell did not "sell" any of this stuff to me. I asked for it and we designed an excellent system together. The reason that I am writing the review today is because this is the first time that I have spoken to Mitchell in over two years. I received an alert on my control pad that a battery was low and I didn't know which device needed the new battery. I called Mitchell on his cell phone. He picked up on the second ring. I had the battery in a drawer and he identified the device and walked me through the battery change over the phone. This tells you a couple of things: 1. The equipment that Mitchell sold to me over 2 years ago works without issue. I literally have had not spoken to him in over 2 years because I have NEVER had a problem. My big problem today was that I needed a new battery. I'm OK with that. 2. Mitchell answers his phone. He is extremely responsive and knowledgeable. Mitchell is a good guy. He knows what he is doing and he sells good stuff. I recommend him without hesitation.

He suggested we troubleshoot over the phone before sending a technician to my house. Since the equipment is old, he had to send a technician after all. While I was waiting for the technician to arrive, I fiddled with the settings and ended up resolving the issue on my own. What really stood out to me was the honesty--both Mitchell and the technician could have easily said I needed new equipment or upgrade or unnecessary work, but instead they were supportive and completely upfront. Poor customer service, dated technology and inflexible in working with clients. We purchased our…read morefirst home and it had Melro equipment already installed so we reengaged with them so that we would not have to go through a new installation process. Worst mistake ever. Once we started living there, we realized that the entire system had a mix or hardwired and wireless solutions, wires stretching through our house and big white boxes sitting in the middle of our windows. Our basement and garage ceiling is a tangle of alarm wiring. There was also 4 different "Melro" boxes in various closets in our house and 2 on the outside. Only one was still relevant, which indicates to me when Melro came to "upgrade" the system they never took down their old equipment, or put things back in the same place, instead continued to drill more holes through walls, window panes and sills and molding. Our house is basically a museum of Melro equipment. Top all this off with the alarm going off on its own and we were frustrated. The last straw was when the batteries started to go out on the "white boxes" that let us know when a window is opened. Over the next few days the dying batteries would set off the alarm in the house between 1AM and 5AM to let us know it needed a new battery. With a 2 and 4 year old at home, this was not a peaceful event. Then, we had no clarity on which of 32 white boxes were losing battery. After calling 3 times to Melro, they still didn't know which box it was to tell us which one to replace. For a $180 they would happily come and change all the batteries for us. We are now in a heated debate on cancelling our 5 year contract. Ron (owner) and his office staff are combative, defensive and not helpful. When I called (again) the 2nd morning of our midnight alarm awakening, his staff never apologized and never asked how they could help. I asked how I can cancel my contract and they said "you cant do that." And now we continue our heated interactions. Melro would not turn off the system to stop the alarms so we uninstalled it ourselves (they did offer to come and do it for $180) and now have boxes of antiquated equipment and ongoing discussions on ending our contract. The last invoice they sent to terminate the contract included an extra year of charges, when calling to explain there was an over-calculation by a year, I was told by the office staff after several interruptions, "to do the math." After several more minutes, she finally acknowledged that her math was incorrect. Stay clear of this one and hopefully we will be able to sever our ties soon as well!
