The Clock Tower is such a beautiful site along the skyline in Zurich. It is one of the largest in Europe. Even bigger than Big Ben in London.
Interestingly, the Clock Tower is not owned by the church. The Clock Tower is owned by the City of Zurich while the nave and staircase leading to the tower are owned by the church. Historically, the tower was used for fire watch duties. It still has a wooden roof (the only remaining wooden roof in Zurich for a historical building.)
The tower has had a mechanical church clock since the 13th century. It was the timekeeper for the city of Zurich for centuries.
Nice to visit and hear the church bells ring to welcome a new hour on the hour.
