San Telmo is the oldest barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is filled with charming cafes, antique stalls and bakeries. Love the colonial buildings that lead to the central Mercado or marketplace. Some of the first homes and elaborate mansions were built in this neighborhood. These homes were quite luxurious with access to gas mains, lighting, sewers, and running water. This led to a growing and thriving community. Unfortunately, this early era ended abruptly when the yellow fever epidemic struck the area in 1871. Although the establishment of new clinics helped slow the spread of the epidemic, it claimed over 10,000 lives. Yellow fever caused many prominent families to abandon their homes with all contents left behind. Hundreds of properties became vacant. Some of the larger homes and land were converted into parks. Many of the abandoned treasures are now sold at antique shops in the area or the Mercado. Many of the homes became conventillos (tenement housing) for European immigrants. Explore the Mercado for delicious foods or a fun souvenir. The stalls are full of so many antiques like rotary telephones, China sets, silver platters, old coins and political posters. Love the old Coca-Cola signs. Although we had a limited time to explore, it was so nice to have a short visit and learn the history of this neighborhood with Patrice from Argentina Elite Transfers and Tours. NB: If you visit on the Buenos Aires Bus, which we also did, be careful as the old cobblestone streets are narrow. Beware of the branches of the trees as you pass through on the open windows of the bus or you may get hit with a tree branch.

We stayed here a year ago and it was just as amazing and awe-inspiring as the last time. Last year we stayed in the newer building of the hotel, but this time we got to stay in the Palacio, and it was every bit as wonderful as I had imagined. We got to stay in a suite that had a great view of the Maison next door and every touch in our suite was dripping with opulence and chic details. I know it's odd to point out the door handles, but oh my word, the door handles were so nice! As with all stays at Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau, you get access to some great views. The courtyard view is mind-blowingly stunning. The grounds are so meticulously landscaped. We had breakfast every morning onsite at Giola. To get there from the Palacio, you can walk through the subterranean art gallery and just be blown away by how such a special, unique place exists. Palacio Duhau is also well located in Recoleta. We started many of our adventures walking from the hotel to our destinations; another perk of this hotel. In the realm of luxury hotels, Park Hyatts are hard to beat- it truly feels like a vacation staying at such a nice property where everything comes together so beautifully. We'll definitely be back!

The breakfast buffet in Goia is outstanding and they also allow you to order an entree off the menu. My daughter ordered the scrumptious French toast twice during our trip. We had dinner at Duhau and it was one of the most memorable meals we have had. The pumpkin- filled pasta and vanilla cake dessert were truly outstanding. On our next stay to Buenos Aires, I would love to stay in the original palace building.

Even before my arrival I had assistance with booking a transfer as well as a show/dinner I was interested in. Upon arrival it only got better with service and consideration. The premises feels like a beautiful home, plenty of room to relax be it at breakfast or anytime throughout the day, from the interior to the patio. Even the house cat Malevo stole my heart. Each room is named after a famous figure; my room 'El Escritor' was perfect to get settled into. It is a very small hotel so note that every time you want to enter you have to buzz in. This kind of personalized service cost us significantly extra, but at the same time, we thought it was a good value. There's also the piece of mind. For example, landing in a strange airport and being met and taken to your hotel was priceless. So when you're paying a premium, you expect more. The Legado Mitico is a gorgeous property right in the heart of the Palermo District. The common areas including breakfast room, extended living room, and patio were comfortable and handsomely decorated. Our room was spacious, nicely appointed, and successful in giving us 3 great nights of sleep. The only room downside was the window view led to a service area rather than the back patio. There was also a roof-top terrace that was closed due to renovation. The big rub here was the front desk service, which we sometimes found to be disengaged and lacking in the willingness to engage in helping these customers with a couple situations. Actually, one guy was great. We wondered whether the other 2 were the B Team. The first was laundry. We had just returned from an Earthwatch Expedition in Patagonia and we has some shirts and pants that needed to be penguin poop cleansed. Unfortunately, that day was a National Holiday and that the external laundry service was not available on that Thursday. We were told that the service might be able to do it on Friday (the Holiday after the Holiday), but at expedite prices. NO. When you're a premium hotel, you figure that out how to get your customer's clothes clean and not gouge them in the process. The second was our idea of taking the boat to Uruguay for the day. We asked about it, and all the B Team guy could offer was that we should take a cab to the waterfront early and try to buy tickets. Later, we found related brochures a few feet away from the front desk, and web sites where we could have booked from one of various options. The lack of problem solving willingness by desk staff was again not consistent with what one might expect from a premium hotel. So why 4 stars and no fewer? First, it is a fabulous property that is well located in the City. Second, the service was so much better when we stayed at the Legado Mitico in Salta. So I'm willing to chalk up our experiences to the B Team. Otherwise, if I'm going to pay a premium on a future trip, I might thing twice before coming back here.

I have to say that everyone in our group was really very happy with our accommodations at BSP…read more(Boutique Suite Palermo). What really made the difference was the staff guys. Jonathon and everyone in staff where very attentive to our needs whether we needed to change some money, setup some tours / excursions if just general recommendations on what to see or which restaurants to visit. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful; also, most desk staff speak English, Spanish and a combination of Italian and Portuguese as well. Accommodations were very roomy as we had a King size bed, living area with TV, small area for drinks and a fridge and a desk as well to boot. The air conditioning worked great as well, which can be critical after spending all day exploring under the Buenos Aires sun.... Our particular room "Suite 14" had an outdoor private patio area that was large and great for hanging out as well. Bathrooms were very clean and had a full shower, toilet, bidet and two (2) sinks as well; however room service was optional at a cost of $35 US per day if you want them to clean the room daily, otherwise it would be just once a week. No issues with asking for extra towels or toiletries as often as you like so that was very good. Style of the hotel is pretty modern with clean lines and they really use a lot of glass for natural light ing in all common areas of the hotel. Hotel also has a pool, gym and Spa which we did not really use but they are provided. So you are probably saying, Nelson how much did all this run? Well not much at all if you think of it.... Overall we paid $347 US + taxes for five (5) nights in the Buenos Aires Palermo Hollywood district which is extremely affordable. Exchange rates are very favorable to the US dollar and at least this week it was floating between $310 - $350 ARS per $1 US. So can we get a drink at this hotel? Old question.... In the future, the hotel will be contracting out to open up their full bar, breakfast and lunch services again as those were unfortunately cancelled during the pandemic but should be coming soon from what I understand. Hotel had to shutdown for awhile during the pandemic as with a number of other smaller hotels in Buenos Aires. I believe they used to host a pretty mean Happy Hour for their guests at one point but we will have to put that to the test next time. LOL! In the interim though, they have a nice arrangement with a cafe just across the street called "Posta de Cafe" which worked out great for us. All guests of the hotel get a 10% discount off the bat; also, they open at 7:30 AM which is great for early risers. Read my review on "Posta de Cafe" if you like for more information. Overall, we had a very, very nice experience at this hotel, it was very clean and again the staff were always very helpful. We will definitely be visiting them again next time we are in Buenos Aires. Their first thought was that it was a little strange because the front door is gated and it doesn't really look like it will be nice inside, but then once you get in it's very calming. The rooms are not too special, but the location is great and I heard the breakfast is amazing. What really won my parents over though was the staff. They were always there to answer questions, exchange money, give directions, and were very friendly. On my parents last night they gave my mom and I a little wine tasting to send them off in style. Definitely recommend this place!
