The Twisted Turtle - Not the beautiful art we expected to receive

    The Twisted Turtle

I am really sad to give this review, but I feel it's imperative that people know what they are…read morepaying for when they sign a contract with Jolina, owner of Twisted Turtle. I originally found twisted turtle at an event in 2023 and I have been sharing the recommendation for her/ trying to find a reason to hire them since!! Their work is beautiful, but their business practices aren't. In August we hired twisted turtle for a large community fall festival. While we only hired them for two hours, their site states 15-20 faces per hour, and it also mentions 90 seconds per face. On Saturday, at 2:30 (starting time of our event and contract) a girl arrived that we didn't recognize. I immediately asked who she was and was informed she worked for magical events. I asked about Jolina and she had no idea who I was referencing despite me mentioning that I didn't hire "magical events". She began painting faces and immediately I was disappointed. Partial face painting was taking 5-8 mins on average and looked okay, but nothing like the quality of TWISTED TURTLE, the company we hired. Also, this girl who showed wasn't the friendly, kid friendly employee we know and had hoped for. Long story short, this girl was sub contracted by twisted turtle. When I immediately called the owner (Jolina) she apologized and explained that she sub contracted but that this company, and owner, had been sending others she had not approved or requested. Jolina offered a partial refund or a discount for following years. Many kids missed out, Jolina then spoke to the artist and decided she wouldn't be offering any refund. Imagine hiring someone and them subcontracting out a lesser equipped company to fulfill your contract? I'm mostly upset because I push for this with my planning committee and couldn't believe a contractor wouldn't inform their client that they were sending an entirely different company. I felt the partial refund was fair, because I did believe Jolina understood this was wrong. I wouldn't trust this business owner and warn people to consider that they may get a service much different than expected. I understand Jolina will respond to this with the email she gave me explaining that my "expectations weren't clear" Does anyone expect a business owner to send a lesser equipped company in their place without notice? I would ONLY hire this company if Jolina or her sister agrees to be the artist and it is clearly laid out in the contract!
