It was always an easy-going atmosphere in the cars and even the exam was really nice. I can only highly recommend this Driving School if you are looking for one in NRW. The teacher was on his phone the majority of class on the first day and always! Felt like he just wanted to pass time and be done with the lesson instead of wanting to help/teach in the given time. All my lessons were done with Andy. From the first day, all he did was point out every mistake I made in a condescending tone. It didn't make me feel hopeful at all. "Your going too slow" "this is how you will fail your driving test" "STOP" "what are you doing ?" He made me feel very uncomfortable. The second & last class was the same. I don't think I'm a bad driver as he makes me out to be, I know I'm still learning but you can't compare new drivers to experienced ones. He was also very impatient. One of the reasons why I felt very nervous when I was driving with him. This is not how a driving instructor should treat you. I was very disappointed. After this awful experience with Leo Pils i got my driving licence with other school very fast!

And the information you need to memorize for the written test is vast. There's around 1200 questions, you'll get 30 of them assigned randomly and you can only miss a couple before failing. Barely passed this test, but the app was essential for studying. The real value here came with the behind the wheel training. I've been driving 30+ years already, so I figured I'd have this part in the bag. I was so wrong about that. My instructor, Oli, was an absolute champ and really helped me break some of the US driving habits that don't fly out here. To be clear, there was a zero percent chance that I could have passed this exam without his help. He was patient with my screw-ups and educated me enough to where I'm actually following the proper procedures when I get back into my car. Highly recommended.

If…read moreone were from Kentucky, all one would need to do would be to exchange their KY license for a German one, but being from CA is a different story. One needs to attend both the classroom and take several hours of behind-the-wheel sessions before attempting to pass both exams. I took my written test (four times) in "English", meaning British English, where the "profile" of a tire (tyre) means the tread, a "level crossing" is a railroad crossing, a "carriageway" is a street, a "motorway" is a freeway, etc. Oh, and one better brush-up on one's math skills as well because there are stopping, passing and acceleration formulas to deal with. Whereas in the US, all one really needs to obtain a drivers license is a pulse, in Germany one must have one's current drivers license "officially translated", take a life-safety course (more math), take an eye test and THEN begin the courses. The staff were very helpful and patient with the time required to obtain all of the pre-course requirements and even drove us to the TUV to take the exam - sometimes repeatedly... My behind-the-wheel instructor, Olli, was a true gem! He gave me all of the tips for passing the test (which I did the first time, with no mistakes) and help make me aware of the many uniquely German traffic situations. Stefan Roth smoked constantly inside the training car during lessons, even after I told him multiple times I couldn't breathe. I was choking, unable to focus, and stressed -- and when I asked him to stop, he told me to "just open the window." I finally asked him firmly to stop smoking so I could concentrate on driving, and he exploded -- accusing me of "shouting," saying this was my "last class," and blaming me for his stress. He even said that my driving stressed him out so much that he needed cigarettes. This wasn't feedback -- it was humiliation. I left that class shaking and in tears. His behaviour was abusive and wrong. This wasn't a one-time issue -- it was a pattern of disrespect and manipulation: I was made to wait three months before lessons began -- while other schools offer start times in 2-4 weeks. I was promised Saturday classes, then shamed for even asking. For three full weeks, I received no lessons because the instructor was unavailable -- and when I followed up, I was told, "You think you're important." I was told that express students who pay €149 for 45 minutes were a priority -- and I was not. Every request I made for a suitable schedule was met with threats that the instructor would "stop driving with me." This isn't just poor service. This is a culture that enables misconduct. When I reported it to the mangement, they refused to act. No apology. No accountability. The message was clear: they support the instructor, not the student. This entire school protects its own at the cost of basic decency. As a brown woman, the way I was spoken to and treated was not neutral. It was personal. It reflected bias, dismissal, and power abuse. I was treated as if I didn't deserve respect. This school does not create safe conditions -- not in the car, not in communication, not in leadership. No student deserves this. Avoid this place. Protect your time, your health, and your dignity.
