I had a HORRIBLE time trying to pass my smog this year and went to three different smog places to try and pass and also two mechanics. The smog people every time just said "drive the car." Fair Oaks Smog Test was the last place I tried and went back three times. Albert told me a certain formula to make the 8th part of my catalytic converter kick on but I could never accomplish it perfectly. I left the car with him overnight so he could try the formula and hopefully have success. It worked and I did cry after trying for so long from December 2025 to June 2026! This shop operates at the Arco on Fair Oaks in South Pas. They have a big sign - which is the name - that says FAIR OAKS SMOG so you can't miss it. Now, I've been here before over 2 years ago and a diff mechanic was there and he was super nice and did my oil change in under an hour. I learned a year later that it is under new management but the mechanic who is there was also a pretty friendly dude. I came for the smog test this time, because my car is that old and it needed clearance before I could renew the registration. I called at 830, asked to come at 9ish, and Albert was able to accomodate and do the smog check in half an hour. He advised to do the online renewal the next day though - to give the data time to be processed and sent to DMV. Anyway, I paid $55 i believe and that was that! Easy peasy! I had my paperwork and was on my way! PS. No issues online, not sure if I wouldve had encountered any. I did try to look where to place the service code or whatnot. I don't think I have to - DMV will look in their database and send me my renewal. read more

The entire process took about 15 minutes from start to finish. Albert was very nice and the shop was very clean. Smog test cost me $60 but I recommend calling in to get a quote for your vehicle. Prices may vary depending on vehicle. I think pricing is very fair here since I was quoted a higher price elsewhere. Highly recommend coming here for smog checks. Albert continues to be my car guy. While he is primarily a smog check and oil change stop, don't let this detract from Albert's wide range of car knowledge. I called today asking if Albert is able to repair floor jacks, as mine seems to have stopped working and nothing I did is fixing it. He said he doesn't, but after a moment asked me if I tried refilling the oil and bleeding it. I let him know I did but maybe didn't do it properly. He said to bring it in anytime today and he'll try to take a look at no charge. I came in and within seconds Albert fixed it. I had somehow undone the U-joint so that the handle was no longer tightening. Albert laughed and said he had a suspicion on the phone what the issue was. I desperately tried to even just tip him but he vehemently refused. Albert continues to be a godsend for my odd mechanical woes, even just offering his helpful advice on what might be wrong. I was skeptical when the mechanic (Albert) said to have a seat in the garage (?) while he did the test... well... that was the cleanest garage I'd ever seen in my life!
