I attended work related training conducted by ASM Research. First off, I was in denial that I was…read moreactually going to attend this training (yah, couldn't get out of it!). Second, I did ZERO research or familiarization w/ the system we were learning. Yeah for preparation! ASM provides various software and programs in support of the Army. Basically the Army tells ASM what they think they want and ASM comes back w/ what they think the Army needs. No telling how big their contracts are - - but their training and professionalism was spot on. The building is beautiful, immaculate and set up to facilitate training. Our instructor, Susan, was a natural teacher. She was laid back and just went w/ the flow of the experience in the group. I am thankful I got to attend this training! Thankful that some contractors (actually there are many) truly do an outstanding job in support of the Army and DoD.

The camp at SHRC for Dance and Gymnastics 9-4 was understaffed.. Kids ages 5 1/2 and older wait in…read morelong lines to use a couple of pieces of gymnastics equipment--they get very board waiting. They wait in long lines and large groups to hop and run. Very basic walk across a beam on the mat.They go out to the preschool playground for a while. The kids pool time I observed 100% daily and I had to stand up and stop 3 girls from hold my granddaughter in the water near the ladder and throwing her in the water. The camp rules say "no touching" The female camp counselor just sat in her seat. After my granddaughter said stop to them-- I got involved and I stopped it As far as I I know, no written reprinted was given to the 3 girls. More training is needed for camp counselors. i recommend sitting in and observing the camp for yourself. Be very careful.I

More recently, I've called them in and they sent a kid and his backup who never got out the car. He kicked around some trash along the ground and expressed doubt at my complaint (college kids have been throwing their garbage at me and I presume others, outside this campus which is littered with fast food trash and liquor bottles) not doubting that it happened, just that damage can occur from it. But still, if I've learned anything from this PD is to expect zero follow up, or perhaps even find myself worse off for having involved them. The harassment continues daily but until I catch a specific person in the act I've got nothing to report to them. Should I even try anymore?

We bring our kiddos from Fairfax County less secure detention and the staff is consistently kind, helpful and engaged when they ask questions or need recommendations. They helped us establish a really nice reading program in our facility that will last long after I leave...and the staff at the library is a part of this legacy! Mount Murtaugh - the highest point in Fairfax County - at 556.9 feet above sea level…read more What is this mountain? What are it's geologic origins? Is it the result of two continental plates colliding? Is it similar to the fold and thrust faulting we see throughout the physiographic ridge and valley province of the Appalachians? No. Mount Murtaugh is a feat (if you can call it that) of human waste management engineering. It is the closed landfill site in Fairfax County - just off of West Ox Road. While the landfill has been closed since 1982, the County still operates the I-66 Recycling and Disposal Center at this location. Mount Murtaugh is named after and in honor of - County Engineer, Hugh Murtaugh, who worked diligently to site, develop and monitor the facility from concept to closure (lifted from the Fairfax County web site). The site has an athletic field built atop it - and methane and other gases generated by the site are captured and used to heat nearby maintenance facilities. When we were in high school - we used to sneak up onto Mount Murtaugh in our Four Wheel Drive vehicles - folks were not supposed to go up onto the mountain - but that just made it more interesting for teenagers. How does one rate a mountain created by the burial of trash? I decided to use the criteria of what I thought of the mountain at the time - that somehow it was mysterious and off-limits - as a teenager - that merits five stars. You can see Mount Murtaugh as you drive down Interstate 66 (I-66) in between Centreville and Fairfax. EDIT: If I were to evaluate/rate Mount Murtaugh in the modern day - meaning what I know now - my criteria would revolve around the environmental effects of the facility.
