So we're new in town and checking out churches, trying to find a good fit. It's tough because…read morewe're a young family that likes a traditional vibe so a church needs to kind of bridge those two worlds if they're going to get us coming back. Sacred Heart is nice. Clean, big, plenty of parking, with a school attached (typically a good sign from the "young family" POV as well as the good news of multiple funding streams). We've been to 2 of their 3 Sunday morning masses - 10a and 11:30a - and both are fairly well attended. The choir is pretty good. The priest doesn't mince words yet gives a good homily. We're in and out in about an hour (mixed feelings on that one - a "short" mass at our old church was an hour and ten minutes). A big con is that they don't have kneelers. That's kind of a big deal. I can appreciate the need to appeal to more people and I know the whole "stand up, sit down, stand up, kneel down" aspect of a Catholic Mass can be intimidating and weird, but that's the deal. To us, that's part of the worship and part of what makes it good (valuable, inveterate, impressive, reverent - take your pick). Sacred Heart is kind of the only game in town in Fairfield so we've been slow to expand the search but stay tuned, because I don't think we're here to stay.

after a year long search, we finally found our home! this church is wonderful! what makes it…read morewonderful are the people and father tharp...of all the churches we have been to, this one was the most welcoming...people knew we were new and greeted us warmly...they looked us in the eye and genuinely appeared happy we were there...i am in a wheelchair and this was the only church where the usher came up to me and asked if i wanted communion brought to me, instead of going up to the altar...it really meant a lot to me...we have been to the noon mass on sunday and the 4pm mass on saturday...the noon is not busy at all but the 4pm ("guitar mass") is PACKED...just keep that in mind if you're going to visit...father tharp is a wonderful priest...he is engaging, funny and on point...the other thing we really like is how diverse the church is...we are a couple in our late 40's with no children...sometimes it is hard to fit in at a church in a sea of young families...but here there are families, singles and couples...there are young, old and in between...there are caucasians, african americans, asian, hispanics...it is a true melting pot...we just love it...so if you're looking for a new home church or just visiting, i think you will find yourself glad that you stopped by...and if you do, be sure to check out the meditation garden, it's just lovely
