My beloved pet had lost her battle with cancer and we needed to put her down. I have a vet in the family but she is 2 hours away, so a friend recommended Fairland. I was distraught. Dr M is absolutely wonderful. We transferred care here last year and couldn't be happier. She is so knowledgeable and just absolutely wonderful with my dogs. We have a diabetic dog and a lot of primary vets don't seem comfortable with managing her but I completely trust this practice with her and her insulin needs. I made an initial appointment with this practice, but canceled it after communicating with their staff and reading reviews. One review indicated patients were required to purchase heartworm medication through the practice. When I asked whether that was the case, the admin person said that meds could be purchased elsewhere, but that when a refill is needed, I would need to physically come into the vet to pick up a written prescription and then mail it to my preferred retailer, Chewy. She said that Chewy does not contact their practice to get approval, which is Chewy's typical procedure. I need to drive to the vet, pick up a written prescription and then send it by mail to Chewy? Hello, this is 2024! When I asked the basis for the policy, the admin replied "it's just our policy." I suspect the policy is designed to discourage clients from purchasing heartworm medication elsewhere, with the practice's profit being the motivating factor; never mind the inconvenience to customers. Aside from this weird issue, the admin staff was less than helpful with making the initial appointment; I spoke with three different staff members regarding their website and onboarding forms. I truly felt like I was bothering them. If this is how I felt trying to make an appointment, I can't imagine what my experience would be if a significant issue were to occur. total rip off place, they like to keep you coming back and charging you extra for an annual check up (last time i checked annual meant once), yet ever return visit they tack-on an Annual checkup fee. It's incredibly sad to witness the decline of what was once a stellar veterinary Practice. I was sad to see Dr. Whall go; he had taken care of several of my animals over the years but I was willing to make the transition, that is until now. I parted ways with this practice after I was not informed that the new vet that my cats had been seeing had left the practice, that I could see someone else, and if I needed more information, I could check out their website (inconveniently down during the call). After requesting a call from the office manager that never occurred, I finally decided to sever the relationship. What a cluster and such a shame. The vet relationship is an important one; we are entrusting the care of our animals to another person. I can no longer recommend this Practice. read more

10 years later... I had to make the difficult decision to move on to another veterinary establishment. I really liked working with Dr. Whall, he was very thorough, knowledgeable and kind. The front office staff used to be very warm and friendly. Over time, it has changed drastically. 1. Dr. Whall isn't available as much as he used to be. They've had a number of vets come and go, it's hard to get to know someone when they have high turnaround. One of my senior pups had a standard dental procedure done, and for some reason came home with bruises ALL OVER her neck, chest and body. My pup was down for several days and this was not alarming to Fairlands. They claimed nothing was wrong and to just keep an eye on her. Fortunately, that doctor was no longer affiliated with Fairlands shortly after. 2. They don't allow you to get prescriptions filled anywhere else. You have to purchase it through them, this includes maintenance like heartworm and tick prevention (which is extremely overpriced here). 3. You are not allowed to come in for vaccines unless your pup has seen a doctor within 6 months. Even though exactly 6 months ago, my pup was in for extensive allergy testing and multiple visits, they were going to require my pup to do an exam all over again just for a Bordatella shot that was due. And then to make an appointment with the doctor would take several weeks because they are backed up. 4. My pup has had severe food allergies for awhile. All the premium or prescription dog foods I would try, would still trigger her allergies or they would change their formula. I got tired of that constant struggle and her getting sick, that I started giving her "Just Food For Dogs" homemade food. And it has worked wonders. She has been so much healthier, happier and active since. She even depends on allergy medicine less. When I spoke with Dr. Bowersett about this, he repeatedly told me it wasn't "real" food and to give her dog food. I explained to him that it was dog food, and he literally just spoke over me and changed the subject. In the end, I saw too many red flags. As much as I like Dr. Whall, he isn't ever available for us. So we had to make the difficult decision to move on. read more

I've been on the fence about writing this because everyone's experience is different and pet care is SOOOO personal. But since I switched and no longer take my senior cat to Fairland, he has been so much healthier; so I am sharing our story. The first major turn-off at Fairland was when my cat needed dental surgery. One of the docs insisted I take my cat to a cardiologist to have him "cleared" for surgery. I knew the risks to an 18 yr old cat and want to make my own decisions about his care. One of the other vets performed the surgery. Second - I took my cat in during COVID and they didn't let me into the building. My super stressed, senior cat came out with a bloody paw. Third - when their on-line pharmacy was out of stock on my cat's prescription food - they gave me the hardest time about giving me a prescription I could take to another company that had his food in stock. They gave me the run around for two weeks - likely hoping to get the food back in stock. Well I can't imagine that the $55 sale of food was worth losing a client - but that was the final straw for me. He had been losing weight at an alarming rate & I thought since he was 20 yrs old, he was dying. His new vet diagnosed him with hypo-thyroidism. Now we give him medicine to treat his condition and he is gaining weight. He is more active, and engaging in many behaviors he had abandoned. Looking back, my hubs and I both think that he had it for probably a year, and Fairland never caught it. My cat is turning 21 in a few weeks and I sincerely think if we never got a second opinion, my poor baby probably wouldn't have made it. read more

The vets and staff at Fairland are really great, and its easy to make an appointment and get medication for my cat. However, they really need to update their "front of house" process. I am often on hold for 15-20 minutes waiting to speak with someone. Once I am finally able to talk to someone, they have to run back and forth to ask the vet questions and relay answers to me. I am currently on hold with Fairland and have been waiting 1 hour to speak with someone about my cats illness -- the first time I hung up and called back after 15 minutes because I assumed they forgot I was on hold, and I have now been on hold for 45 minutes during this second call before someone picked up. PLEASE HIRE MORE STAFF. It is extremely stressful to have to wait for answers without knowing how long it will take to talk to anyone. Just sitting on hold listening to the same messages on loop over and over again. Additionally, there is no way to email Fairland directly -- the address listed on the website is a gmail address that doesn't seem to be monitored. All of this makes caring for my elderly cat (who doesn't have much time left) much more difficult than it needs to be. read more

A few years ago, this vet was just fine. The past 2 years, it has been terrible. I took my pup in for a minor mole removal. It was not a cancerous mole but it protruded and it looked like a tick so we wanted it out. What should have been a very simple procedure ended up a disaster where my dog still has a protruding mole, that constantly bleeds, but now also has a quarter size bald spot where the vet overdid it with the cryosurgery. This is a permanent bald spot since the vet admitted to the follicles being killed. Since it is a short-haired dog, the white bald spot with a bleeding mole on it is very obvious. This is on his head so it is visible. The practice is not responding to me and I am furious that the vet did not have the necessary experience to do this procedure. Every time I look at my poor dog all I see is the bald spot and wish I had gone somewhere else to have this done. We should have known better since the prior times I took my dog in, we weren't pleased. And now that the owner retired, it is a free for all with no accountability on the staff. There is a lot of turn over so the staff isn't happy either. I suggest you take your pets elsewhere. read more

I could not be more surprised at what an unprofessional business this turned out to be. When our dog was sick we couldn't get an appointment for weeks. My husband posted this review: a month ago We love the vets and the staff at this practice. For almost a decade they have cared for our furry family members. However in the last year their service has taken a dive. Our dog is coughing and wheezing and the only appointment they have is two weeks out. We had a similar experience over the summer, but we got "lucky" on the wait list. If you need routine physicals go here, let's just hope your pet never actually gets sick, or if they do hopefully you can wait 2 weeks. They decided to refuse us service after posting that review which I thought was quite restrained. The backstory, they eventually saw our dog and gave us medicine to treat her. The veterinarian said if that didn't work we could try a different medicine. When I called back to get the other prescription filled, they told me they couldn't fill it until they saw her again in person. The problem was that they didn't have another appointment for more than a month. When I asked to speak to vet, they told me management has decided they will no longer see our animals because of our review. I never imagined that a business I trusted for so long could be this petty. They were amazing when I had to put down my amazing cat of 21 years. I feel betrayed. Took me a while to post this since both of my dogs passed. Dr. Spencer was great with my dogs and I highly recommend seeing him for your pets. The staff is great too - they're kind and knowledgeable, and you can tell that they genuinely care for animals. Dr. Whall was mostly fine with my dogs, except when we had to put one of them down. He seemed to be in a rush and injected the shots into her chest. I was told 2 is the standard for them to go, but when she still wasn't down (which was alarming) and I asked him why (not unreasonable to want to know what was going on), he told me to "relax" and gave her a third shot. I still don't know why to this day and wonder "what if." To top it off, when I left the room, there was a group of people by the reception area who were talking/laughing loudly. Most places have a light that they turn on to indicate when a pet is passing and to please be respectful, and while I don't know whether theirs was on or not, it just made a bad experience even worse. read more

Dr. Gough has saved me from leaving Fairland Animal Hospital. I was just about to leave for a myriad of reasons but I brought my 15.5 year old pup in out of desperation. He was amazing. Sadly, the appointment ended w/a cancer diagnosis but he was so awesome about everything. Even took a call from me(well, my best friend)the next day within a minute of holding. I adopted my cat, Deku, from a shelter about a month ago and gave him a few weeks to get used to me before taking him into a vet to be poked and prodded. I set an appointment up about a week in advance by recommendation of my brother and his wife, who have brought all three of their cats here. Carolyn checked me in and was awesome. The tech, Pharece, was awesome. The vet, Dr. Ngwira, was awesome. Gretchen checked me out and she was awesome, and even the other owners in the lobby with me were awesome. Literally every single person I interacted with here was fantastic. I was brought back about a half hour after my appointment time and was apologized to profusely and sincerely by Pharece, Dr. Ngwira, and later by Gretchen at the front desk. They explained that the appointment before mine went from routine to very much not routine so it took longer than anticipated. I honestly had such a positive experience otherwise that it hadn't impacted my opinion of the visit - things happen and they rolled with it perfectly. My cat, who does NOT like being held or picked up, was hissing and snarling at Pharece and Dr. Ngwira while they were holding him in place to check him out, and they were still so kind and affectionate to him while he was getting an attitude. They stuck around and chatted with me about Dr. Ngwira's cats for a few minutes after the appointment was over, congratulating me on my first pet and giving me general cat ownership tips. Deku's name is a reference to an anime, and the icing on the cake was Gretchen recognizing the name when I was paying my bill. I was so nervous about Deku going to the vet for his first time with me, but it honestly couldn't have gone much better than it did thanks to everyone at Fairland. read more

I've been going to this vet for a couple of years now and they've always been great, BUT the addition of Dr. Ngwira has been absolutely amazing. Last week I had to make the gut wrenching decision to let my beautiful Tiger cub go. This was only our 2nd visit with Dr. Ngwira, but it drove home just how wonderful she is. Her kindness and true compassion showed during both visits, but absolutely shined through this experience. Having to let both of my babies go this year has wrecked me, but I have to say that her kindness and true compassion helped in ways I can't explain. We also want to send a huge shout out to Anthony as well. He was there for the passing of both of our babies and he was absolutely amazing as well. So gentle, caring, and compassionate. Our experiences with this vet have always been good - even under the worst of circumstances. The office is very clean and calm. The cost is a bit high compared to what I was used to, but Kentucky costs are much less overall. I think for the area the costs are pretty average. All of the employees we have encountered have been great. We really love the office kitties too! read more

We've been visiting Fairland for three years. First with our dog and now with our two kittens. We love how enthusiastic staff are about our pets. When our kittens were spayed and neutered a few weeks ago, staff were very attentive to our kittens very different personalities. We've seen all of the different veterinarians over the course of three years, from routine checkups to concerning health problems and have been equally impressed by each one. Fairland has always been great to my French Bulldog. They're very thorough and have amazing vets. The office staff will make phone calls to follow up which is something I like. My only two gripes are the automated emails I get from them advertising services and products, and they're kinda pricy compared to other vets in the area. read more

I had such a great experience here today. We moved back to the area a few months before COVID and finally I was able to get my dogs in for their yearly exams. Due to COVID they are taking extra precautions. When I arrived there was a sign on the front door stating to stay in your car and call their office to let them know you are outside. They came out in a timely manner to get my dog. It took them about 10 minutes to complete the exam and then the doctor called me to discuss her findings and ask if I have any questions or concerns. They took my payment over the phone and they brought my dog back out to me. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. Will definitely be coming back! read more

My parents took our pets to Fairland Animal Hospital when I was a young girl and I remember my Dad always saying how much he respected Dr. Whall and team for the tender love and care given to our dogs. Now at 63 years of age, I'm taking my pets to the BEST EVER Veterian Hospital around. Recently, my 8 year old Yorkie needed dental surgery and Dr. Andrew Gough was the vet who cleaned and extracted quite a few teeth. When I took her in I was very nervous but after speaking with Dr. Gough he told me exactly what to expect and to not worry. He said, if anything changed he would call me so, prior to surgery he called and explained further .. I was relieved and assured things would be fine. A few hours later I was called to come and pick her up and that she did fine. Let me just say "AMAZING" she was more than fine.. you would never have known she had surgery. I went home with meds and was really thinking she would in pain.. NOT... she was up running around and even ate a little food ( if I let her she would have eaten more).. I can't THANK Dr. Gough and the great team of folks who looked after my fur baby. I'm so pleased, never in the many, many, many years have I or my family been disappointed with the service, care and love. THANK YOU FAIRLAND... THANK YOU DR. GOUGH !!! THANK YOU DR. Took my long hair dachshund here for a visit and the veterinarian and staff were wonderful. They made her (my Dog) very comfortably and she did not bark one bit. the facility was clean and the checkout out desk staff was friendly and knowledgeable! Although I only went once, since I lived in the area for a brief amount of time, it was a very pleasant trip (aside from my cat's earmites). The staff was SO sweet, had a nice conversation with both techs while we waited for the doctor. The doctor was great, quick without being pushy and very helpful. I took my Persian cat here to have her excessively goopy/runny eyes looked at. Not only did Dr. Whall give me the proper treatments for her eyes, but also went beyond expectations by cleaning my cats ears and giving her a small, quick, customary grooming session. I brush my cats fur everyday, but she won't ever let me brush her back-side and behind her ears, where she has mats. Dr. Whall took out his clippers and quickly and gently trimmed away the dirty matted fur around her butt and clipped off the mats behind her ears. I didn't even ask him to! I just mentioned that she wouldn't let me groom her there and he took the initiative to do it for me. So nice. read more

I have never experienced kinder Vets than at this Animal Hospital. I adopted 2 ferals and was scared stiff how they might react. Both Dr. Wall and his assistant were so kind and patient with them that they were able to perform all tests, give injections, check temperature (!) and oh yes, the most incredible thing: cut their toe nails. I have never been able to do that and they have become cuddlebugs. In addition, their fees are lower than my previous Vet who treated all my cats before. There, I always felt as if I was taking in a car for service where parts needed to be replaced. When I took in another feral who was tame by that time to an emergency clinic, they anesthezied her to be able to treat her. I could not get her to Fairland's because this was at night. I am sure that either Drs there could have treated her without anesthesia. I am so grateful for their care and I don't know how much more praise I can heap on them except to say that you will never find a better Animal Hospital. Unfortunately, we are moving away and I don't know if I well ever find vets who come even close. read more

They always go out of their way to make me feel welcomed and they really do treat my dogs are if they were their own pets. Even when i was going through a hard time financially Fairland Hospital worked with me to make sure my pet was taken care of and i could manage my vet bills. This place is the best veterinary clinic that we've tried in the DMV. They get you in and out quickly, which is great for stressed out pets. We've never had trouble getting appointments, and each vet we've seen has been thorough, kind, and not dismissive of crazy pet owner concerns. They never try to add superfluous services. Thus, the costs are reasonable, especially for the quality of the service. The new location is very nice - clean, well laid out, and comfortable. In short, as long as we live in the area, we'll be taking our pets here. There's nothing like the peace of mind that having a dependable vet gives to a pet owner. read more

This entire place is a disaster! I make an appointment to bring my dog in because he has an ear hematoma and its been a nightmare! I scheduled an appointment to come in in the morning on July 27th only to get a call the day before that the vet has "an emergency" and my appointment needs to be moved to 2pm. I called and asked if my dog's ear would be treated on that appointment and was told that everything would be done then and there. I show up to my appointment only to be seen by some vet (and charged $70 JUST TO SEE) and was then told that my dog needs to have surgery and that I need to bring him back the next day. At this point I'm annoyed because I have to come back another day FOR SURGERY! I was even given a quote and said okay cool, I'll bring him in. I bring my dog the next day for surgery in the morning, EVEN SIGNED AN ESTIMATE and left him. I get a call from a vet that he either could put my dog on prednisone to see if the hematoma would go down or do surgery for $600-$800. I said I signed an estimate for $360-$470 and now its more?! Not only that, why didn't yall offer the prednisone option the day before on my first visit?! MY DOG WAS THERE FOR SURGERY! IF I WOULD'VE KNOWN ALL OF THIS, I WOULD'VE SAVED MYSELF TIME AND MONEY! OR BETTER YET, GONE ELSEWHERE!! AS A CLIENT OF 20 PLUS YEARS, I AM DONE WITH THIS PLACE! You can never get an appointment unless its far out, they tell you one thing and then its another, my last passed away at a different place because these people couldn't even get her in to be seen and despite all of that, I still gave them another try! I have been bringing my animals here since I moved to the area about 7 years ago. Recently, I had to put my beloved pet of 16 years down and I couldn't be more grateful for how they handled the process. I was directed to a room on the side of the building where I was able to be with and console my pet throughout the gut-wrenching process. While they don't currently have the lobby open because of COVID, I was happy that I didn't have to walk through the main lobby to go to this room as I was in tears and wanted privacy. They handled the entire process with compassion, understanding, and delicate care. I'm forever grateful. Highly recommend Dr. Whall and his staff. read more

My pets have all been patients of Dr. Whall and Dr. Blanchard at Fairland Animal Hospital. It's a small local practice and I have been pleased with their services and care through the years. I particularly like Dr. Blanchard, but either doctor provides exceptional care and expertise. The staff is also great and many have been there a long time - they know you and your pet and it's nice to return to a business with familiar faces, especially when the time comes to say goodbye. It's hard, but part of being a responsible pet owner is knowing when to say goodbye and it's nice to be around a caring staff when doing so. I recently adopted a dog and needed to find a vet in the Silver Spring area. There are a few vets very close to where I live, but they didn't get the best reviews and it looked like parking would have been an issue. I decided it would be worth it to drive a little further to check out Fairland Animal Hospital. I called on a Monday afternoon and was able to get an appointment the next day. At Fairland Animal Hospital, there is plenty of parking and the facility is very clean and spacious. All of the employees seem friendly and knowledgeable. My dog saw Dr. Spencer and he was wonderful. After my dog's exam, vaccine, and nail clipping, I was surprised the final bill for the visit wasn't too expensive. I would highly recommend this vet facility. read more

We have been clients of Fairland Animal Hospital for close to 20 years. Over those years Dr. Whall and his wonderful staff have cared for all six of our dogs. Whether it be a sick visit or an annual well checkup we know that our fur babies are in good hands. This year we lost three of our remaining four recused dogs. As you can imagine this was a very difficult time for our family but the Dr's and staff at Fairland showed us again how much they care for their clients.... two and four legged. The motto of the hospital is "WE TREAT YOUR PET LIKE ONE OF OUR OWN" still stands true in our eyes. read more

I have been there sometimes with my dog Boo. They treated her very well. Very nice workers and good vets. The price is normal for the area.

We've been taking our dog here for awhile and all the staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful. They were a little bogged down for awhile during the pandemic, but I appreciate the protocols they have in place for everyone's protection and they have been very communicative through this whole thing. I always completely trust them to give amazing care to my pets when they are in the clinic with them. The vet techs are so lovely, as is the admin staff, and the vets are always very attentive. I really appreciate that they've always been transparent with our options regarding our pets' health and potential costs. Plus, even my dog ADORES them -- she get so excited whenever we pull up! The worst of the worst. After many, many years of going to Dr. Wahl, he has turned his practice over to veterinarians that he has hired. Dr. Wahl no longer treats animals. My male Tonkinese cat was throwing up and losing weight. We were running to the vet constantly. I was unhappy with Dr. Spencer and asked that we not be scheduled with him ever again. After refusing to see Dr. Spencer, I arrived at my appointment only to be assigned to him. I immediately asked for another vet. I saw another vet, but was not confident about this practice and shopped for another practice. I removed both of my cats from this practice after the male almost died and required emergency surgery for IBD, costing thousands of dollars, which saved his life. There was NEVER a mention of food allergies or the hazards of dry food. I was throwing good money after bad. This used to be a great practice. But unless Dr. Wahl starts practicing again, I would stay away. read more
