My parents took me here as a kid to get my hair cut and I still get my hair cut here. Now I take my little ones here and my wife goes here also. They have 3 separate rooms. The main shop for adults, room for Woman's Extras and another room separate for kid friendly and geared toward children. This place is the last of a dying bread where you go in and they remember your name! Not just one person, every one is friendly and makes you feel welcome. Took my granddaughter there for her first haircut. We expected she would have a difficult time. Just the opposite was true! The stylist Nicole was fantastic! First the disclaimers. I used to bring my kids here when they were little, and the last time I was here was about 8 years ago. I asked for a hairdresser named Marianne who is the salon's colorist, but I also knew her as a very good stylist. This is going to be a long review with a lot of details because everything that could go wrong, did go wrong except for the actual cut. When I called to ask how much the cut would cost, I was told $40 for the cut plus $7 for a blowout. When I arrived at the salon I was asked if I would like my hair washed, and I said yes. I had brought along my own sulfate free shampoo and conditioner and told the young woman who was washing my hair to use as much as she felt she needed because my hair is curly long and thick. This is where things started to go wrong. The young woman did not scrub my scalp nor did she wash the back of my head at all. As far as I know she did wash my hair, but used very little product. When I left the salon with my shampoo and conditioner in hand, very little was missing from either bottle. Marianne was about 5 minutes late, no big deal. she did a nice job cutting my hair and made conversation throughout the entire process. She spent about 10 minutes cutting my hair. She did spray a small amount of some product onto the ends of my hair, but added nothing throughout the cut or when she was finished. I asked about the possibility of a blowout, and she told me that the cut alone would be $47, and that an additional blowout because of the length and thickness of my hair would be $35 more. I decided not to partake of this service, and when Marianne was finished with my hair she left it damp and frizzy. She did not offer to have me sit under a hood nor did she put any products in it for the benefit of curly hair. When I went to pay at the desk, I was told that the 15-minute haircut was the full $47, not 40 as I was quoted over the phone. I am used to paying over $100 for a cut and hair dry. My hair is not usually blown out, I sit under hood dryer for about half an hour, and then my regular hair stylist will hand dry the rest of my hair with a diffuser. several products are generally used on my hair, and I walk out of the salon feeling quite lovely, and well cared for. This did not happen at Fairy Tales. I felt as though my hair was neglected, and that the haircut was just an afterthought. Will not return. read more

I took my daughter the other day for her first hair cut. Extremely overpriced. No wash or blow just simply a trim that took literally not even 5 min and they charged me $20. The girl who cut her hair was nice but then she was getting frustrated with my daughter bc she kept moving her head. My daughter is 2 what do you expect. If this place claims to specialize with children they should be more patient and friendlier with them. read more

Fairy Tales is a hair salon which, as the name implies, is designed for kids. Although it may seem odd that a 22 year old gets her hair cut at a place whose network of choice for their television is Nickelodeon, the end result is well worth having to sit through an episode of Spongebob Square Pants. I don't trust many people with my hair. I've tried out other salons and have often left with tears, but I've been getting my hair cut at this place since I was 9 and not once have I had a bad cut. NOT ONCE. I'm not the only "over-age" customer at this salon, as they do everything from cuts to dye-jobs to waxing. Ask for Mary-Anne, although everyone here really does a great job. And they don't charge a ridiculous amount of money....... where else can you get an amazing cut for 25 bucks? read more

I have been a client of MaryAnn's at Fairytales for more than 10 years, now. I have tried other salons here and there out of curiosity, but having tried the best on both the North and South shores, I'm convinced that close to home is the best. I could cringe at the thought of spending exorbitant amounts of money to walk through the room of another "haute," high end salon, where I'm not sure if all of the girls in the room are judging my before and after. FairyTales- now Hair Fantasies- is so convenient, inexpensive, and casual. I've developed great relationships with the staff there over the years, and coming in for service is a pleasure. My hair is healthy and I always get a great cut, and never leave exhausted or annoyed by my experience there. Although MaryAnn is my stylist of choice, all of the girls are experienced and great at what they do. read more

So annoyed never got a call the person we had appointment with was not there showed up and was told she will be right there then turned into show up 2 hours later. Then 4 hours later get kids haircut with her stopping multiple times and disappearing. Get home and realize she fd up his hair done with this place. read more

The place charges according to age and also gender, so a girl's haircut, including blow, is $18 for up to 12. It goes up for up to 14, and from 15 the charge is the same as an adult, $33 for a cut and blow and $27 for a cut only. Today I brought in 2 daughters, one in the lowest price category and one in the adult one. When it came time to pay, the woman who cut both their hair (a blonde with a tattoo on her left foot) told me that because the younger one has such thick hair, she is charging the full adult rate of $33. I said that she should have told me before. She never said it in all the time I was nearby when she got her hair washed, cut, and blown dry. She could have at least warned me before blowdrying that she was planning on the higher rate so that I could have told her to skip the blowdrying for the $27 cut that I was getting for my older daughter. Incidentally, it only took her 3 minutes to cut my older daughter's hair, and she didn't offer a discount because it took less time. Well, I paid the $60 total that should have been $45, but I don't think I will ever go back again now. Not very smart business to gain $15 at the expense of a customer with a number of daughters who might have come back several times. I had been there before with another daughter who had her hair cut and blown dry at the right rate for her age. But now I have no intention of returning. For the rest of the review: the place is meant to be good for kids, but not so when they renege on their own posted prices. You can make appointments, but there were plenty of walk-ins. read more

I brought my 2 year old daughter in this afternoon for her 2nd haircut. For her first haircut we took her to Little Clippers and had a fantastic experience. However, my husband and i grew up in the 5 towns and Fairy Tales was always the premiere Children's salon. To say i was disappointed in the level of service is not strong enough. We arrived on time for our appointment. The staff barely greeted us and hardly welcomed my toddler daughter. They told us to choose a car seat both of which had hair and dirty smocks. When the "hairdresser" came over she proceeded to us a blow dryer to blow hair all over us to clean out the cars. The hairdresser then brushed out my daughters hair and gave her a dry cut. She did not check to make sure her work was even and i had to ask her to wet and brush my daughters hair so that it didn't look like a total mess leaving the salon. When i got home and inspected my daughters hair i saw that the ends were completely uneven. I immediately called the salon to speak to a manager and was told i would hear back from the owner at his earliest convenience. The salon and experience was terrible. I am so disappointed that i choose to take my daughter to fairy tales rather than return to little clippers. I will NEVER return to this salon. My daughter loves this place and she is very fussy about her hair. They have a great staff and the price is very reasonable. We use their hair care products, "Repel" which is formulated to "repel" lice. After two outbreaks at her school, she remains, "Lice-Free" the stuff smells great too and leaves her hair looking beautiful....Highly recommended. read more

I am absolutely disgusted with their business practice. My wife went to go cut her hair for Locks of Love and was charged $30! To be clear; they put her hair in a pony and chopped off 10 inches of hair. When my wife, being shocked at the charge for a two minute appointment, reminded them that they did not really do much (no styling of any kind) they remained unmoved. These people really need to recheck their moral compass. read more
