They were planning on demolishing the building a few years ago to make a new one, but that would've just raised everybody's taxes. They should've just fixed the basic quality of life stuff because from the outside the building is architecturally beautiful, especially for a high school.

The principal is amazing, the staff is great and the PTO puts together great events. My son and I loved our Mother & Son Bowling night, and my daughter simply loves getting all dressed up and going to the Daddy Daughter Dance with her father. They are very welcoming, yet also keep the building secure. There's a lunchroom/cafeteria, where they also serve hot lunch each day (this is something I didn't have when I attended schools -- at least not until I reached high school). It's reasonably priced (I think it's $2.50 for the student meal) and it gives the kids a few different options to choose from each day. They even serve breakfast in the morning as well! The grounds always look nice, and the building is always clean. This shouldn't be a surprise because even my kids know the janitors. So their presence within the school is well noticed.

The classroom is bright, happy and well equipped. The outdoor area is amazing and allows the children to experience nature and play. The "Buddies Program" with the 10 & 11 year olds is amazing. Each preschooler gets a "Big Buddy" that reads to them once a week and celebrates holidays and other special events with them. The bonds created are wonderful and go beyond anything I have seen any where else. Spectrum also offers before and after school care in a safe and naturing environment. This is taking away a childs rights. They over diagnose kids so that they dont have to deal with them in a general education class. Leaders pressure parents and bully. Several dropped ieps of kids who need a little extra help because of how they handle things. I used to speak nightly of kaneland schools. Now I'm embarrassed that my children have to be in this district.
