I was looking for a favorite go-to middle eastern take out and boy have a found it! This place surprised me. I ordered the combination plate and although it's $20+ it's so big and worth the price! It came with salad, a generous portion of hummus, garlic sauce, rice, and chicken plus side pitas. It was about $20 a plate which is pricey but we were able to get 2 moderate meals out of each platter. The cons: the pita. Idk why but no Mediterranean place in Chicago makes a decent pita! These generic cardboard pitas gotta go. My husbands beef meat was also a bit dry. Pros: rice, chicken and salad were on par and tasty. BUT THE HUMMUS... best hummus I've ever had. Tasted homemade! We had a wonderful Mediterranean/middle-eastern restaurant in Lafayette, but it had gone down hill and eventually closed. This place brings back all of the times we visited there. Another return to the delicious Falafel and Grill ! Instead of my usual Kifta Plate entree , I went with the Chicken Shawarma plate! It was good but I'm not sure if it was better than the Kifta. The Kifta is beyond flavorful and tender. I give the Kifta plate a 8.5/10 and the chicken Shawarma a 7.5/10. My friends ordered the Kifta sandwich and Chicken Kabob entree. The Kifta sandwich was good but I wish they had cut up the meat a bit more so you could have it in every bite instead of just in the middle. I felt like it could have had a tad more meat. The chicken kabob was perfectly grilled, flavorful and juicy. The kabobs seemed caramelized by the amazing char it had. The sides were on point as always. My friend told me he would give this dish a 9/10. He orders the chicken kabob each time without fail. It was my first time trying the waffle fries! I feel like this was a SUPER underrated item. I love their falafel sandwich. They are my go-to order when I'm in a rush and want something delicious and filling. For less than $4, you get a large portion of fresh falafel, pickles, tahini, lettuce, diced tomatoes, cucumber. It's the size of a large burrito! I usually ask for extra sides of the hot sauce and tahini and give a generous douse to the pita before each bite. Their portion is so big that you can even save half the sandwich for another meal. Or I've devoured it in one sitting in under 5 minutes. Style of consumption up to you :P This place reminds of Pita Inn in Skokie, IL where I grew up eating their shawarma plates and hummus. With nostalgia and a taste for good hummus, Falafel & Grill is my own neighborhood spot. If I were to expand my order, I'll get tabouleh, a large lentil soup, and/or small hummus. They'll serve the soup with a wedge of lemon. Their hummus comes with a drizzle of olive oil and a few chickpeas to garnish. If I'm in an entrée mood, I'll order their kifta plate (rice, salad, pita, hummus) but their combination plate of beef kabob, chicken kabob, kifta kabob, and chicken shawarma is pretty good too if you want a little bit of everything. Their meat is always fresh on their spinning broilers and there's always clientele eating in or picking up take-out. I always phone-in my order and then pick-up within 15-20 minutes. Five stars overall because their food is always fresh, delicious and dependable. Five stars for their falafel sandwich alone for the value and taste.
