Brook provides a wonderful service to the Under 19 girls and under 25 males of Belfast. They are open most days of the week except Sundays so they are always there when people need them most. My girlfriend and I were more sensible than most who came through here, and to be honest when sitting in here it kind of looked like some kind of trials for the Jeremy Kyle program, but I am here to review, not to judge! The staff are great. They are friendly and completely down to earth, and they provide a non judgemental, confidential service. The centre is in a convenient place in Belfast so most people can get to it if they need it without their parents discovering if they want to keep indiscretions under their sleeves. The decor is funky on the inside with many amusing paintings, and there are a wide range of leaflets and other information in the place. I hope the Brook continues its great work for years to come.

I've never actually been to Brook personally, partly because I used the uni health services when I…read moremoved to Belfast aged 18 and partly because by that time I was already very well clued up in all matters sexual thanks to years of reading Just Seventeen in the 90s (ah, how good that mag used to be before it got all celeb and looks obsessed). But I've referred/persuaded/begged/cajoled and threatened young people to go there when working in the homeless sector, and any group doing the thankless work of sexual health information for young people in this godforsaken god's country's religious climate deserves a stonking great medal in my book. There haven't been any in a while, so hopefully Brook is here to stay, but a few years back there used to be regular protests outside the clinic by those types of sour religious people who never have sex, that sadly we in N Ireland are all too familiar with. If these start up again, I'll be down there again, counter-picketing, and I hope everyone reading this would be along too. This is an essential service for young people, and five stars isn't even in question. Go Brook!

A few years ago when I lived nearby I attended Ormeau Health Centre as my local GP Surgery. As with all Surgeries these days, getting an appointment unfortunately proved tricky, with waits of up to a few days or even weeks on occasion. Thankfully though, they did offer a convenient telephone line whereby you could ring and speak to a Doctor or order prescriptions. You can also book appointments online and order repeat prescriptions 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week via their website. Plus Ormeau Health Centre have a travel clinic if you need to get jabs for your holidays. I always found the Receptionists, Nurses and Doctors friendly, helpful and professional. I would give this clinic a full 5 star rating if it weren't for the long waiting times before obtaining an appointment. Plus only allowing 10 minutes per patient for a Doctors appointment feels very rushed. However I think this is an issue with the Health Service overall (or our politicians and government) rather than this particular clinic, which I always found excellent.

The hospital is a mixture of old and new buildings set in a beautiful open woodland area . The older buildings have that wonderful solid but austere impression from the Victorian era . There has been a lot of renovation done over recent years to bring these buildings up to safety standards.The new buildings fit in well with the old and clearly give the onlooker the confidence that behind the doors there is equipment and staff fully trained for the specialist care that this hospital has to offer. Although the waiting lists for orthopaedic operation is sadly longer than we want this is not the fault of the specific hospital and staff are understanding of this . The overall care and success rate is good and thanks to the thorough pre assessment examination there are very few problems including risk of infection. It is very reassuring to know that we still have the best health service with specialist areas like that which Musgrave Park Hospital can provide.

Its a bit of a maze to drive around but there's loads of parking and pick up spaces by the entrance. The hospital is fairly old now and hopefully in the future there will be more development and investment in it. Excellent staff.

The mobile breast screening unit is situated in the grounds of Ards hospital .This is for the…read morepurpose of all women over the age of 50 to be invited to attend the unit for breast screening every three years. This screening is called a mammogram which is a special X-ray which can spot cancers that are too small to see or feel. The whole procedure involves an opportunity to ask any relevant questions and then to have each breast X-rayed. The whole procedure takes less than half an hour and the mammogram itself will only take a few minutes. The X-rays will be reviewed by a specialist and the results will be sent to your home and your doctor in about two weeks. So ladies if you haven't availed yourself of this service don't be afraid, that half an hour could literally save your life.

That is because Ards hospital is responsible for delivering wee baby me around 23 years ago. Unfortunately they no longer offer midwifery, some say they reached the pinnacle around 23 years ago but others argue that government budget cuts encouraged the closure of this centre. I believe the former. Ards Hospital really is a shadow of its former self, but it still plays an important role in the community. They offer a walk in service Monday to Friday and if I was to have a minor injury I would bypass Hospitals that are closer to my home in order to go to Ards hospital. Day care, Outpatients facilities and minor operations are also preformed at Ards Hospital. Ards Hospital has always been extremely sympathetic to its patients needs. It has the feeling of a Family GP practice rather than a city hospital. The building itself has the same personality as the staff, wise and open with a whole lot of knowledge to share. It was once a Victorian workhouse but there is no need to worry about being served gruel at Ards today as they offer full catering department equipped with an affordable café for patients and visitors. All in all I would commend this hospital for its character and approach to care.

It's obvious too just looking around the unit we were in that the deadly cutbacks are incredibly savage. As we left in the lift from level 9 an elderly lady, barely able to stand got in at level 5. She had a small carry case and a walking stick. She was tearful telling us that she had been kept in, prepared for surgery and shortly before she was to be operated on it was pulled as they 'needed a specialist'. Apart from the obvious questions and sheer waste of a scarce valuable resource how could this be allowed to happen to vunerable people but it's a story we hear all too often. She had no idea when she will be called back so she'll have to continue to live in acute pain seemingly until the 12th of never.
