I would give it a 4.5 if I could but a few niggling things keep me from giving it five stars. First…read morethe good --. Starter of mouclade, which is mussels (out of the shell) in a very nice sauce. Only complaint is I would have a liked a piece of bread to enjoy the sauce. --. Main was the Sunday roast, with Cornish beef. One of the better roasts I have had. The meat was nice and pink, not over cooked. Potatoes were the star, crispy but not greasy. I also loved the gravy, clearly did not come from a mix. I felt the Yorkshire pudding was also excellent, again not from a mix. Broccoli and cauliflower, much better than your typical Sunday roast. Cabbage was not particularly thrilling but good to use up the rest of the gravy. Where it fell down a little was service. After being seated and getting our drinks, took 35 minutes to have our order taken (had to ask not once but twice). The servers were incredibly nice and friendly but such a wait is not acceptable, especially at 2:30 pm when we are quite hungry. Also charged for an extra coke (did not realize it until we were home), probably because I had to order the second one twice. If they can get their service fixed, easily five star food.

It is such an historic, atmospheric and welcoming place to visit, and it was a lovely experience. The food is excellent and exquisitely prepared and served, with a very personal touch from the professional and friendly staff. Whether you are local residents or welcome visitors, The Victoria Inn is a place to remember and return to. We will be back! Philip and Kate Shaw, Relubbus, Penzance

Food is available from 5:30 until 8:30. We had the selection of soda breads as an appetiser, served with butter whipped with herbs and sea salt. These were sensational: served freshly baked, the bread was cakey with a crispy crust, and indulgent with the butter. Absolutely delicious. My Greek Salad was very good, with lots of olives and feta (though served with salad leaves, so not classically Greek). The red wine vinaigrette was a lovely touch. My partner had the Hunter Chicken, with cheese and bacon. This was more classic pub grub, so perfectly decent but not outstanding. They have a full bar, including a good choice of real ales. Service was very efficient, helpful and friendly. Overall, a good 5* experience.

Being so close to the port it can get very busy especially as the ferry comes in, but the atmosphere is still that of a proper pub, with low ceilings and a nice view over the beach. I didn't eat here but they had a small but pleasant selection of Cornish gins which kept me more than happy. Like most of the Scilly isles it isn't cheap, but it is lovely.
