My experience went well. I have been going through some horrible pain these last few weeks and I just couldn't take it any longer so I finally got in. They were very nice and took their time with me, especially with taking those dang mouth X-rays. The whole experience was great. Now the outcome wasn't what I needed to hear but, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for me. Yeah!!! I think I've found my dentist and I'm excited about that. So if anyone is a cry baby as I am or nervous as heck as I am. You need to check "FAMILIA DENTAL" here in Abilene, Tx. 79602. 335-480-4248. They also have another location I heard today. This was a terrible experience for me. I already don't like going to the dentist and this is why. I sat in the lobby for about 45 minutes and then sat in the chair in the back for another hour. Then when he came to clean and look at my teeth I was already annoyed. The cleaning was fine but he kept telling my that I had to take my wisdom teeth and from my past dentist, I was told that my wisdom teeth were fine unless I had sign of discomfort. We argued about it for about 30 minutes as he wanted me to drop 100s of dollars on it. Went to another dentist to after to check and they said that I will probably never need to get my wisdom teeth removed. I had to go back for a cavity the next week and this just topped my terrible experience. While they were inside of my mouth, the dentist and his assistance were talking about work place drama the ENTIRE TIME. I just thought it was so disrespect. My wife and I came in on June 22, 2022 for an exam and teeth cleaning. I was seen by Dr. Aswad, and she was seen by Dr. Kalair. Everyone involved with our care was pleasant, however, the quality of the care was the poorest we both have ever experienced. The exam conducted was so superficial. No explorer was used on either of us to check for cavities. Dr. Assad took maybe 1-2 minutes to examine my mouth. Dr. Kalair did a better job for my wife when examining the gum line. We both commented to each other after treatments that the teeth cleaning was the quickest and poorest of any dentist we had ever gone to before, and we are in our sixties. Don't know what other dental care that is affordable is like in Abilene, TX., but we will not be going back here. read more

I am between jobs and unemployed currently. Private pay provided up front for services rendered. I had a composite filling fixed. I should have taken a picture. First of all, the x-ray holders were painful and were pressing behind the bottom teeth as positioned by the dental assistant. Dental assistant, I couldn't tell you about the pain, as I was unable to speak. Read a person's facial expressions and body language. Next, the needlesticks to administer the numbing agent left the inside of my lower right lip bloody and bruised. Hello dentist, no need to be so damned heavy-handed and aggressive. Also, the dentist didn't talk through the procedure, even though I was familiar with it. I have had about seven dentists in my lifetime and never before had had such treatment. I was so glad to get the Hell out of there. The x-rays and procedure was about $350 total. To help aid healing, I have been spritzing with hydrogen peroxide, icing it, and using salt rinses. It still hurts. By the way, don't tell a patient they can eat right away after this procedure. I waited two hours. And even then, my lip was still numb and hurting for several hours afterwards. I will say that the front desk people are always very kind, otherwise, this place would have gotten zero stars. read more

I was extremely nervous about having a wisdom tooth removed, but Dr. Shalaby was more than understanding of my hesitancy and put my nervousness to ease by answering all my questions. He did a great job and I felt absolutely no pain afterwards. I can't speak for the other dentists at Familia but Dr. Shalaby was great! read more

Over three hours for a simple cleaning and x-rays, albeit at an affordable price. However, the dentist took an hour to clean my teeth once he began. Why? He was working on multiple patients at once, which I'm not saying can't be done...but he would clean one portion of my teeth, leave, clean a few more teeth, leave, clean another section, leave, come back, etc. I grew up with great dental experience and this seemed odd behavior to me. I also froze once the tech ushered me back to the exam space...I laid in the chair and shivered...for over an hour. I felt as though the dentist missed my entire lower left back molars, but he was so "in and out" that I wasn't entirely sure. I just wanted to be done by the end of it and didn't even bring it up. Went in with a toothache. They told me I could pull it or get a root canal. After taking a few days to decide. I went with the pulling. To much for the root canal and I was scared it was just going to get infected again. One thing I really appreciated, is that after seeing him the first time whether I come back of not. He gave me some antibiotics that least get rid of the infection that was causing so much pain. That's one of the reasons I allowed them to do The work instead of going somewhere else. The only reason for the 4 stars is because I had a filling in the tooth that fell out. Why couldn't they of just put another filling in there? read more

I am very disappointed regarding the service I was provided at this place of business.I informed them of what I needed done. They took my insurance information and then I waited for 4 hours in a waiting room. Within those 4hrs two techs came to see what I was there for. Finally a Tech took me and xrayed my teeth. Was taken back to the room I had been waiting. Finally after waiting for over 4 hrs the dentist walks in looks over the x-rays and tells me he cannot do a filling. Before I leave they charge me another 60.00 dollars. Few weeks later I receive a mail from my dental insurance that my insurance has been used up from this dental place. I would discourage anyone from using this dental office unless they are desperate. We previously went to a dentist with a wonderful reputation and professional demeanor. Only started going here because it was covered by the dental plan that we had to purchase for our children under the ACA regulations. Pros: --easy to get an appointment; --less expensive; --takes most insurance Cons: --excessively long wait times; --non-private rooms (feels like an ER with side divider partitions only); --poor basic service (cleanings were not thorough); --extremely rough hygienist and dentist (lots of residual pain after work and cleaning which was never a problem with previous dentist); --lack of professional presentation and attention to the patient as the work was happening (gossiping, not interacting with patient, allowing the patient to gag on dental tools); --poor communication for appointment reminders (call and leave a message asking for a return call with no information about the appt time and then call multiple times and hang up with no message left) With our insurance, the price was very reasonable. For a while we overlooked many of the inadequacies of the office because the basic dental needs were being met. The "final straw" came when the dentist asked to place sealant on our daughter's teeth (last December). Some teeth were covered under insurance, some not. I only authorized those that were covered. The dentist then put a sealant on one that the insurance eventually chose not to cover. I obviously couldn't "return" the sealant. The service had been rendered without authorization so the resolution would seem to come from the person who erred (the dentist or the insurance). I received a bill. I disputed the bill. I was told it would be written off by Familia, per the dentist authorization. I received another bill, disputed it again, told it would be written off, etc. etc. After 6 months of arguing and over 3 hours of conversation on the phone and in person, I was told today that to get it taken care of, I would have to call the insurance company and get them to pay. I decided to just pay it, transfer our records, and warn other people. My children are older (teenagers) so they can tell me all the issues they have had when they go back. I would NEVER send my smaller children to these dentists. There is a distinct lack of professionalism, by both the dental professionals and the office staff. If your insurance offers you other options for a dentist, I would encourage you to choose it. Other reviewers have offered warnings about this office and the office has responded on Yelp that they are "committed" to resolving issues. Unfortunately, these issues have persisted and my experience is that this is the norm rather than the exception. read more

After 2.5 years ill just look for a dentist that has a more stable practice. I cant totally blame the dentist, they are there for the practice but sometimes they book to many clients so in between they will see patient during your procedure, in my case i think he saw at least 5 or ore patients. The 5 min wait that he makes me wait will turn in to at least 15 mins with your mouth open, and then stick needle again because the anesthesia ware off. 2.5 hrs in the chair (slanted down) gives me stabbing pain in my back. read more

This place and Kool smiles is all that is covered under our insurance as far as in network! so we've been going there for the past two years. For a basic dentistry, and occasional tooth pulling, fillings; they are just fine. I like(d) Dr.s Barody and Okeege(?), but Not! the Asian Dr. And after they found out I had fibromyalgia, nobody wanted to help me! The Asian doctor didn't even want to do a follow up and check out where Dr. Okiege had taken a tooth out. and that was the whole reason for my follow up! I mean what a jerk! I highly recommend them for minor dentistry work, but not anything else. I've gone three times this year, and yet I have not once had my teeth cleaned! because they didn't want to do it for a fibromyalgia patient without a doctors release. is that not stupid!? Well I finally got one so I could have it done; and have teeth pulled. and yet after they pulled my tooth, and I want back they didn't want to clean my teeth! I feel like I should get my money back! The whole staff was awesome! I have had a phobia due to a bad dentist I had as a child and did not go to a dentist at all for 20 years ...which lead to having to have all my teeth extracted and full dentures...Doctor Stevens is AWESOME! He was gentle and really cared whether I was comfortable as we went along with my treatment which took over 3 months to complete including a surgical procedure before I could get my dentures completed. I would recommend this office to anyone who needs a special care dentist and staff! Thank you all Dr. Stevens, Priscilla, Alice , Andrea and the rest of the staff. You guys ROCK!!! read more

If I could give a negative score I would.they hurt me,and knew that they hurt me but kept drilling. On my first visit I just wanted to get a game plan of what to do,and the charged my insurance a cleaning but didn't take it off saying they will do it later. Then they hurt my children, 11,12,9 yrs olds, old enough to know the difference of pain vs pressure,they felt pain and didn't stop.left a drill resting in the youngest ones mouth and it cut the inside of her lip. These people are hands down the worst.trying to rake in as much money as the possibly can.They don't care about the patients at all.They cleaned my children's teeth,but when we went to a different dentist they said the back of the teeth were never done and would have caused more issues.seems like fsmilia was trying to get even more money doing a half as job. Don't go here. My first appt the Dr decided to do a root canal without letting me know on a tooth that only had a big cavity and could have been filled. I had gone to 2 other dentists and no one said I needed a root canal on that tooth. Tried to dispute it and talked to the general manager who said she would file a complaint on behalf of me to corporate. I called corporate 2 days later and nothing had been filed. Not to mention I had to go back because this dentist placr is the only one that accepts my dental plan, I went back to get the fillings done in the 2 teeth that were root canaled and the dental assistant was acting like she didn't even want to be there. She was being lazy and not doing her job because she was supposed to be off at 2, so the Dr is asking for suction while he's drilling my tooth and she was just not listening. I almost choked on water and the Dr almost drilled through my tongue. She was only there for a total of 15 minutes after 2. Horrible place. I would not recommend. Not to mention the Dr called me a liar over the phone about the root canal situation. Never going back here after my crowns are done. And I would never recommend this place to anyone. Worst experience ever. I'm so nervous to go back for the crown prep, I wonder what will go wrong then. read more
