The smell is horrendous. I could not work in that environment and feel so bad for the people who do. I went in to purchase a feeder rat for my snake. I like to pick out my own rat for her. There was a dead rat in the tank. Instead of removing the rat the associate said something to the effect of "yeah that one is dead". Had that been me? I would have been mortified and immediately removed it before letting the customer pick one out. So I had to move to a different size. I didn't know what those rats had been exposed to and didn't want to expose my snake to potential pathogens/bacteria. read more

This place smelt terrible. The animals seem very sick. The products are extremely dusty. Birds are not being properly taken care of. I accidentally walked behind a counter where no one was supposed to go to and i seen mice and rats in fish tanks stacked on top of each other without food or water. In the dark. Some birds were also in fishtanks. They look very unhealthy and uncomfortable. Iam not sure how this place hasn't been shut down yet. Fish are in dirty tanks and some are dead. If I could give no stars I would for this pet store. They are always out of product, every time you go in and need something important such as reptile light bulbs, feeders, they never have them. They have no basic knowledge of how to keep animals at all. Their hamsters are confined in harmfully small space with softwood shavings which are toxic to hamsters. Purchased a ferret a week and a half ago. Was told he was up to date on shots. Several days and $1000 later, we have a very sick ferret who is not, in fact, up to date on his shots. He has mites, parasites, and a GI infection. He was sold to us very sick and we are lucky the vet was able to quickly save him. She was appalled at the condition he was sold to us in. Once he is healthier we have to restart his vaccines since they were not given at the appropriate time. Additionally, this ferret was TWICE as much as any other ferrets in other pet stores. read more

Upon walking in to this pet shop, the smell of ammonia overwhelms me. The two parrots are living in filth like I have never seen. PLEASE someone clean these poor birds cages. Their fragile respiratory systems cannot survive this stench. The birds looked awful, in poor feather and dull. The rest of the store was filled with buckets to catch the drips of rain where the ceiling is leaking. This pet shop really needs to close and these birds need to go to a rescue. This place is horrific. The smell of stale pet urine hits you right when you walk in. The fish tanks and hamster/ rabbit/ Guinea pig cages are filthy and full of poop. I felt so bad for the animals here. The store also has very low stock of many items. I heard the associate mention that they also board pets and cannot imagine ever leaving our dog there since the hygiene of the pets they're trying to sell is so poor. I can't even imagine what it's like for boating animals. This place has been here for as long as I can remember and I have no idea how they manage to stay open. 10/10 avoid! read more

They had a new employee who was extremely knowledgable and personable. Got the supplies I needed and good advice. This visit the store also smelt clean. There are birds and pet grooming in the back and it's beautiful to support a small business that isn't a chain Pet Store. Remember, everything is local and please support your local businesses. Have used 3 groomers in Crystal River. The first one close to Big Lots did a nice clip but my dog was terrified and shaking when I picked her up. The second one off of Fort Island trail gave her kennel cough. The 3rd one is Fancy's. Nice clip, no sickness, fair price, and a happy dog when I picked her up. I've taken my Aussie back several times and have been thrilled to see her nicely groomed and HAPPY each time. I'd give this groomer 10 stars because of gentle grooming. read more

We got stranded on a trip from the Manatee Swim and walked to Fancy's Pets to ask for advice. The owner's response to us asking the best way back to Orlando was "Did you just get a hair up your ass or what?". I've stopped into Fancy's Pets a few times over the years. I have an American Shorthair cat and every now and then when I'm desperate I stop. The last time was about a month ago. All I can say... it just isn't worth it. First, I find I have to hold my nose. I've been in pet stores that do not smell like this one does! The animals look terrible. I had read other reviews about products being on the shelves that have expired dates. So out of curiosity, I looked for myself. Indeed I did see some! I looked for what it was I needed, luckily getting it within it's usable period, and got out. The employees were not unfriendly. But they also were not friendly. From the reviews I've read, I can gather that the problems of this business establishment lie with the owners. It really is a shame. This could be a great store. And this last visit... it will indeed be my last. It seems unhealthy to even walk in. read more

DONT BUY THE FEEDER RATS!!! Let me say I'm not a new rat owner and I know what I'm doing. For several years now I have always bought feeder rats as pets from several different pet stores even places where I went into back rooms that looked like a horror movie, even with those rats I've never had a problem. I bought 3 rats and brought them home, quarantined them as you should for AT LEAST a week to watch for signs of sickness. Nothing seemed to be wrong at the time so I put them together with my rat that I have had over a year. Now 1 one of the 3 rats died, 1 is sick to the point it can't walk and now my rat that I've had is sick as well. The 3rd rat seems ok for now but who knows. Never have I EVER encountered this and our routines have remained the same. I should have followed my gut and listened to the reviews and stayed far away from this place! Some of the employees I've met their were pleasant and someone I spoke with over the phone before was snarky. All I can think is what could have happened to someone's snake or whatever if they would have eaten one of these sick rats. Buyers BEWARE and trust the reviews. read more

I had a healthy 55 gallon with beautiful fish I decided to buy some more fish. I stop by fancy pet and bought $40 worth of fish. Apparently the fish has some kind of disease affected all my other fishes. All the fish I bought at this location died first. I treated my other fish with medication but lost about 20 fishes I would not recommend fancy pet. The management if you want to call it that did nothing to rectify the situation. read more

Within 4 days all dead with ick! 2 electric blue rams, 2 blood parrots and one absolutely beautiful strawberry arowana (a very expensive fish if you are unaware of what that fish) contacted them and. . .
