After getting a few samples at the Mall of America, we've been trying for years to line up our timing with the open hours, which is Saturday only 5-9pm. It finally worked out! We arrived at about 8pm. There were 2 people behind the bar, one of which was strictly working the order line & the other was pitching in there and working the bar seating. They were SLAMMED & stayed that way the entire time.It turns out there were 2 family reunions with very friendly people. We ordered 2 drinks, sampled a couple of new products, had 2 more drinks and left with a $39 bottle of this seasons gin, which was very floral forward - dill (tastes nothing like a pickl) & lemony. The limoncello is another seasonal limited item. Given how busy they were, I think they did an amazing job at taking the time to make sure service was personalized & their products were all well-showcased. At home, we already had their Spiced Rum (an excellent wintery spice, not the typical style) & a very solid flagship gin... both of which are distributed locally. Many of our friends know of our passion for small batch vodkas and the occasional gin. That's why one sent us a bottle of this. Yum. It's a flavorful gin. You'll get some lavender and probably some pine. You may be left with some thyme, I was. As an afterthought. Yum. It's made quite far north in MN. They grow their own rye (non GMO we were informed), from which the gin is made. They clearly put some different flavors in there, and we we told each flavor is distilled individually before being added to the mix. This takes longer and is more labor intensive, but I think that's why the gin also has some deep running flavors. Small batch gins will cost a little more. It costs money to do small batches. This was a gift and I don't know the price, but it was most likely worth it. Beautiful bottle. read more

Far North Spirits is far more than just one gin! They make my favorite gin, Gustav Navy, which is absolutely fantastic! Then they introduced me to their small batch, onsite, Roknar Rye Whiskey. The Rye is out of this world! I have been a fan of REAL rye since way before it was cool and this is by far my very favorite. Rich, smooth, and knowing it comes from a family firm and farm makes it all the more satisfying. Their reach is increasing so be sure to seek it out!
