Pork tenderloin with generous serving of onion rings
    Libby G.

This is a solid restaurant. We have eaten here multiple times. The Gorilla burger is gigantic and comes with cheese, lots of bacon and an egg. The pork tenderloin was solid as well. Look at our pics to see the generous serving size of onion rings! Great breakfasts too! We come here if we need a bite and Pittsburg places are busy because of a Chiefs game. Even if the place is busy, we'd never have needed to wait too long.

    Cinnamon roll

We went during lunch time hours on Saturday...no wait for a seat..waitress was quick and friendly...food order was quick hot and delicious...I order couple of different items...I wanted to try....meat omelette - was little overcooked but it was very good and stuff full of ham,bacon,sausage-it also came with hash browns that were perfectly done, cinnamon roll- tender and not overly sweet tasted fresh waitress got it out of the front cooler heated up with icing smothered on top, biscuits and gravy- tasted semi homemade meaning the biscuit was light fluffy golden brown and the gravy was from a packet that had been jazzed up but overall good, pancakes smelled good fluffy light husband finished plate....overall experience was quite pleasant fast easy no fuss diner. We would be back if lived local probably a regular...

WOWZER. Wonderful service... from EVERYONE there!! Smiles, camaraderie, scratch made, scrumpdelicious food. Man I could go on and on. I'm pretty sure this is NOT a secret here in this town but man o man this is just AMAZING. Prices are so reasonable and the portions are big. Not that we need that size BUT sometimes you just want a lot of comfort food. Boy do I feel comforted I'm not sure how it only has 41/2 stars to tell ya the truth. My guess is, you can't please everyone all the time. ENJOY!! I will be back Is it wrong for me to lick the plate? Asking for a friend.. oh crap I already said me‍‍ never mind.

Dad taking a photo so he can return some day!

Amazing food! Well made biscuits, they were very soft. They make sure your food is exactly how you want or like it.

Great food and good service. Home style food in a relaxed casual cafe style eatery. Recommended for breakfast or lunch.

We got our food and it was cold. The butter didn't even melt on our pancakes. The staff was friendly but the problem was not corrected.

My wife and I journeyed to the Pittsburg, Kansas area to judge the chicken war for ourselves…read more Chicken Annie's and Chicken Mary's have been rival fried chicken restaurants there for decades. Our first stop was Chicken Annie's. The next night we went to Chicken Mary's. Both were very good in many ways. Service at both was efficient and friendly, but our server at Mary's was the most exceptional. Both restaurants have an old fashioned family eatery vibe, but Mary's was just a tiny bit nicer. At both restaurants the water had a slightly unusual off-note that was also noticeable in the iced tea. Both restaurants offer white bread from a well-known local Italian bakery. Honestly, it was no more special than any grocery store white bread. At Annie's it was fresher. At Mary's a bit stale. My wife tried the German potato salad at both and proclaimed Annie's far superior. We both had green beans at both restaurants. Both were very good. My wife liked Annie's the best. I preferred Mary's. Strangely, neither restaurant had real butter as an option, only the chemically "whipped spread" so my baked potato was untried. The star of the show is supposed to be the chicken. Portions were generous with both. The breading at Annie's was crustier. The breading at Mary's was flakier and lighter. The chicken at both was moist, but even juicier at Mary's. For this reason my wife and I agreed that Mary's was the winner of our contest. Many people have told us that one or another of these restaurants has "the best fried chicken I've ever had." Honestly, we can't agree. The fried chicken at the grocery store deli near our Roeland Park home is just as good. We have found the Brookeville Hotel in Abeline, Rye on the Plaza in Kansas City, and Stroud's in Overland Park to be infinitely superior to both Annie's and Mary's.

While the contests had to pick a winner, I must say that I really enjoyed the chicken offerings from both places. The chicken was well prepared, juicy and the crust was delicious. You cannot go wrong when having food from here. A five star experience!

And oh boy, prices are way more expensive. Most steakhouses Dont even have chicken fried steak on the menu. But at Jims it went from $16 to $27. I got invited to go, not my pick. At $27 it was one of the cheaper options. The burger was $17, and fish sandwich was $19. And they come with nothing. To add fries they are $5 for off the truck frozen fries or $8 for "hand cut " fries. A baked potato is $10. Those prices may not be shocking at all fine dining restaurant, but Jims is just an overpriced dive bar. BTW, the chicken fried steak was huge. Impressive on the plate. I made sure to have the gravy on the side to not make the fry soggy. The fry was soggy and lukewarm warm in temp. Lack of seasoning and no crispness is best description. Side salad was something you would expect at a diner. Worst part of the iceberg lettuce. Highlight was the baked Idaho baked potato. Problem is they brought me cold to fozen butter in foil and very cold sour creme. I spent 10 minutes building the potato they could have spent a little time trying to wow me. Wouldn't matter, you could order the flagship $70 porterhouse and would end up with the same deal. Jims is an overpriced dive bar masking as a high end steakhouse

Reviews for each part of this business…read more Outside - 3/5 - Outside is misleading. Driveway and look is a little rough. Didn't even know this place was around until we were told, and you can easily miss it. Inside - 4/5 - Inside is nice and very clean. Plenty of places to sit. You go past multiple seating areas to the back to order. Food - This can range from 5/5 to 1/5 depending on what you order. We ordered a little of everything off the entire menu. Anything with bread wasn't great. Which honestly isn't a slam at all. It's a bbq meat place. Reality is, sandwiches and things usually are not great at places like this. The specialty dogs and sandwiches were just kinda boring. They were messy, and the great meat flavors were ruined by boring basic bread. Almost all of the meats were AMAZING. Brisket, pork, hot links, and turkey were all fantastic. 5/5 for sure. You can't go wrong with any of these. Plus if you like baked potatoes, this is the place to go. It's at the very top of the menu. The only meat that was really bad was the Italian sausage. They were very very dry and no flavor. All of us took a bite or two, and we tossed the rest in the trash. Their Mac and cheese and their broccoli casserole were both great. We got the brisket jacked Mac, and it was fantastic. Summary - it's a bbq meat place. Stick with pure meat as much as you can for your main and stay away from all the pointless filler meals with bread and buns. Order yourself a lot of meat, some Mac and cheese, and maybe a spud. Can't go wrong. Service is super friendly, you can call in your orders, and they also do catering.
