Visited in February 2019. Farmer's Basket is located in an upscale mall in Atlanta, in the downstairs food court. Think of it like a Panda Express for Southern food. There were a lot of fried food choices, however, they also had a bunch of choices that were "healthy-ish" included collard greens. I like to try different foods when I'm in different areas of the country, and this place was my attempt at finding something unique to the region. The reason I went here over the other big national food chain places was because it had the longest line of local looking people. They know what's up. read more

Due to the weekly One Day sale that Macy'rs seems to hold twice I week I found myself in Lenox today...and hungry. Normally, I steer away from mall food courts at lunch time, because, duh...everyone that works in the mall is at the food court, but today I took a chance and headed down the esclator. Every place had a line except for one of my favorite food court spots, The Farmers Basket, when I see the people staning in double lines at the Taco Bells, I want to just say....Hey come over here...its cleaner, healthier and cheaper than that. I am hooked on the charbroiled chicken, red potatoes and will normally throw a green veggie in somewhere...some have collards or cabbage, and most have fried okra. Today I went with the okra. Also...try the green pepper sauce...not to be confused with the jalapeno sauce (which is two peppers in some vingear), the green pepper sauce is a condiment to be SMEARED all over the green veggie (collards, or cabbage) and of couse the potatoes and chicken Very friendly staff...they still recogonize me from when I use to work in Lenox...and the prices still cant be beat for a food court lunch. I wish I had discovered this place earlier. I've spent a lot of time in Atlanta for work, and I had one of the best meals here. HERE! AT A MALL FOOD COURT! I was avoiding the heat and humidity by ducking into the Lenox Square Mall. Unfortunately, it was right around lunch time, so the mall was crowded and I was hungry as heck. I wandered around looking for a place that didn't have a long line, but everything was packed. I was about to give up when I spotted Farmer's Basket. At first glance, I thought it was another generic Chinese food place. It wasn't until I got up to the counter that I saw what the food items were. (chicken fingers, charbroiled chicken, meat loaf, green beans, corn, yams, collard greens, etc., etc.) Still, I was on the fence. Then a cheerful woman behind the counter held up a piece of chicken on a toothpick and encouraged me to try it. "Charbroiled chicken", she said. I took the toothpick, popped the chicken in my mouth, and OOOooohhhh! Tender and juicy .. it was DELICIOUS! She then offered me a piece of a different kind of chicken - size of a nugget, golden, crispy, fried, honey-sweet goodness. It was a tough choice, but I went with the charbroiled chicken and two sides (corn and yams). Price? Under $6.00. I added on a piece of corn bread and a medium drink which brought my total to just shy of $9.00. The corn was corn. Perfectly fine. The yams? Awesome. Caramelized goodness. Chicken? Each piece as tender and delicious as the sample I was given. I felt bad for not being able to finish it all, it was so good. I will definitely go back again before I leave Atlanta. For a food court eatery, this is one of the better that I've tried. Large selection - maybe too large when it comes to sides - and good prices. Tasty? Well, as I said, it is a food court. The 'spicy' chicken was way too sweet; the collards were actually not salty enough (yeah, I know, I can fix that) and the rice was just ok. On the good side, the chicken was tender, somewhat well seasoned and relatively free from icky bits; the collards weren't too salty; and the rice was ok. If I find myself hungry at Lenox again, I will probably head this way. Unless I have a hankering to Run for the Border. read more

Based on the reviews, i'm wondering if I got the wrong stuff! I was looking for dinner when I found myself in the Lenox mall food court, a place I hadn't been in a while, so I figured i'd give mall food a chance to not be....well....mall food. I just happened to be in front of Farmer's Basket, which were handing out free samples. The samples were so good that I ordered a combo of 1 meat and two sides ($6.59) of the following: Sauteed Citrus Chicken (entree) Veggies Noodles (side) Fresh Veggies medley (side) First off, i'll say for the price, you get a solid amount of food. They packed in the fried sweet chicken pieces, gave me a nice serving of the noodles as well as the steamed veggies. The Citrus chicken, it turns out, was great one piece at a time, which is why I loved the sample, but as an entire serving, the grease caught up with me and I started to not enjoy it. They were crunchy, slightly sweet, but not a lot of citrus flavor. The steamed veggies were nice, crunchy and seasoned well and I enjoyed them. The noodles suffered the same fate as the chicken, because they were also very greasy. So greasy in fact they make the panda express noodles seem not greasy at all. I did not finish these. I did see an interesting variety of asian type selections (i.e. panda express clone) right next to southern comfort food, which included roasted potatoes, corn, mac and cheese and dinner rolls. Maybe the asian selection I picked were just greasy in general, and maybe the southern sides are more appealing/less greasy, but for now I have definitely had better and don't know that I'll be back for more...not anytime soon anyway read more

The food is good southern food. I've been going there for several years. They have a great variety and the food is always fresh. I especially like being able to get a meal with 2 meats and 2 vegetables instead of just 1 meat. I especially like their chicken fingers (fried upon request) and their meatloaf. They serve outstanding soulfood at very reasonable prices. They are located on the 1st floor in the foodcourt in Lenox Mall. This is my first time eating at this location because I normally eat at the Peachtree Center location. The food is always hot, fresh and extremely tasty ( good ). I'm with Jamarcus T. on this one: I'm not sure if I'd gotten the wrong things, or if I'd come on an off day, but... nuh-uh. I wanted to meet with my dad, so I decided we'd meet in the Lenox Fashion Place food court and then go from there. In my head I was thinking Sarku Proper (I'd been to its sushi bar outlet stand a couple times with success), but I left it up to him. He'd said, ultimately (like I'd think otherwise, eh), he just wanted something with rice, but he had concerns I'd not get my veggies with his choice. I peeped over at Sarku when we were within the vicinity and found it would have what I could eat and what he'd fancy (a meal with rice), so I was directing his attention over there. Simultaneously, an attendant from Farmer's Basket was saying to my dad (literally) "No, I think you want to eat over here." In my head, I said, "*Seriously,* lady‽" but I decided to look anyway. Since they're right next to each other, I suppose they have some "friendly" competition going. Friendly competition that kept trying to push their cornbread (69¢ extra, by the way). My dad had already sampled one of their pork dishes she, the attendant, had on a toothpick, so I think he'd made up his mind. I saw they had three veg and four veg entree options, so I'd be fine. I decided on the three. I wasn't quite certain what they had on a broad scale, and hadn't been able to preview anything to see, so I went with the three veggies that were facing me: the vegetable fried rice, the macaroni and cheese, and the mixed vegetables. My dad went with the pork and two sides (vegetable fried rice and macaroni and cheese). It wasn't until I rounded the corner that I saw there were more vegetable options that looked a lot better than the macaroni and cheese, such as the fried okra. But I didn't want to be "that person". "Oh, can I have this instead?" No, I'll buck up with what I ordered, even though the macaroni and cheese looked dry, doughy, and pale, and the vegetable fried rice didn't really have any vegetables in it, it seemed. I was going to get water, but my dad insisted I get a carbonated beverage. "You don't even want a Canada Dry?" he asked. I knew I wasn't going to win this one. My dad believes a beverage should be something not water, so I went with that too, though he nearly ordered me Mountain Dew before I corrected him on that. When I picked up the boxes, I noticed they'd written identifiers for our orders: "MK" (I can only only imagine "man and kid", which just makes me want to gesticulate wildly at the bits of grey hair poking out of various places on my head), and then something else I couldn't make out, and then "vegetables" ("pork" for my dad's), then "glasses", and finally "1" and "2" in circles. Because they can't just pay attention to the order in which the boxes come and correspond that to the order of people in queue? We sat in the court seating and dug in after he prayed for two minutes (per usual, because it has to be a full prayer and not just a food blessing; you all are getting a glimpse into my childhood with this review) over the food. And then further disappointment. The macaroni and cheese was pretty cold, and the vegetable fried rice barely had any flavor. The only way to make it borderline palatable was to mix the three together, and even then it was just slightly lukewarm. People have raved over this place's food, but I dunno. It has both the Asian and American dishes from your typical Asian buffet, but served in a food court setting. Like in other Asian food court restaurants, you can pick a meat and a side, a meat and two sides, or two meats and two sides. Meat selections include charbroiled chicken, a spicier version of charbroiled chicken, and jalapeno meatballs. Sides include green beans, collard greens, yams, and broccoli. Highlights: The staff let me sample quite a few of the items before I placed an order. The charbroiled chicken is reasonably tasty. I ended up picking the spicier version of the charbroiled chicken because it had more flavor overall. My sides were the noodles and the string beans. I was happy that the food was not drenched in oil - a nice refresher from the usual Asian food court restaurants I go to. The vegetables looked and tasted good as well. Critiques: I tried a jalapeno meatball and thought it was bland. One meat and two sides didn't make me full. If you're hungry, I'd suggest doubling up on the meats or maybe buying two orders. While I was impressed with how the dishes were not too greasy, I thought the charbroiled chicken was a little too sweet. Overall: I think that Farmer's Basket is an upgrade over your typical Asian food court restaurant. The food quality is a little better and there are more dishes to choose from. Farmer's Basket is located in the food court at Lenox Mall, and in my opinion, it is the best place to eat in the food court at Lenox. Seriously, I consider Lenox a viable place to eat because of the Farmer's Basket. The food is cheap (a meat and 2 veggies for less than $6), and it has always been really, really good. The have all of the southern favorites, like meat loaf, Salisbury steak, chicken fingers, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese... the list goes on! The food is always fresh and hot, and the people that work there are really friendly and very efficient. They have an assembly line going that gets you your food, and gets you out of there quick; so you can go enjoy your meal. I have to say, that every time I go to the mall, I make sure to go hungry, so that I can nab a Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes, and black eyed peas combo from this place. It never disappoints me, and I find that I crave it often!! If you are looking for a place to eat while you are shopping at Lenox, consider this place, I am GLAD that I took a chance on it so long ago; and can assure you that I will keep coming back for more! read more

"The mall! The mall! Let's go to the mall!" Like any kid who grew up in a vast suburban wasteland, I lived at the mall. Now I hate it. Commercialism and materialism aside, I just hate crowds. But with my office nearby, occasionally I find myself at Perimeter Mall. Sometimes I'll have an errand to run; other times it's a lunch run with cow-orkers. Whether it's one or the other, more often than not I end up eating at the Farmer's Basket. I don't know what the attraction is since, really, it's not all that great. The food is often saltier than a bukkake buffet. However, the portions are plentiful (again, much like the aforementioned buffet.) Even the "healthy" options often times are salty and (I have a feeling) are heavy with butter or some butter-like product. Still, I can fool myself into eating "healthy" by incorporating broccoli and black eyed peas onto my plate and as harsh as I'm sounding, the food doesn't taste all THAT bad. I've definitely had worse meatloaf. Hell, I've COOKED worse meatloaf. Admittedly, though, the Farmer's Basket is one of the better selections at this particular food court. I'm not alone in this observation, considering that their line is always the longest. Longest, yes, but it moves quickly; the swarthy Hispanic and Asian staff all smiles and samples. A meat, 2 sides and a drink for $7.25. It ain't Shakespeare but it works. Now that I think about it, though, I know why I choose these guys over, say, Chik Fil-a. They're the only ones whose drink fountain is self-serve which means free, easy refills. Is it that simple? Is THIS why so many people choose to eat here over the many other selections? Heh. Food courts are tricky. By the time you finish doing the mindless hand-to mouth dance of sampling from every kisok in the place, your taste buds are tired and confused. You order from booth #4 because you THINK that was the best one - only to find out three bites in that the chicken is dry and the sauce is too sweet. All that ended for me the day I discovered Farmer's Basket. Put simply, the food is great! (better than some restaurants I've been to) There's enough variety, to suit my food mood of the day (healthy, fried, comfort) and a friendly staff that is miles away from the "you want fries with that" attitude at the other end of the food court. This is my go-to place at the food court since I don't think it necessary to fork over my whole paycheck for decent lunch in Buckhead. I love how it the closest counter to the doors, easy in and easy out! The staff there are always smiling, which makes me like them even more, cause admit it, food tastes different when handled by an angry, scowling person! The food options are more of a southern style, with daily offerings of meatloaf, chicken and country fried steaks. I don't recommend the fish, they cook it per order (which is great), but the last time I got it, there were lots of pieces that weren't fully cooked and since I wasn't in the mood for sushi that day I ended up throwing half a fish away. The sides are really healthy and good too. My fave are the carrots and broccoli. The price is great for being in the mall and in Lenox, but for just about the same price, you can get bigger portions, a roll/cornbread AND a drink at Donnie's Country Cookin'. read more

They have chicken that is coated in butter and batter. So unhealthy, but too delicious to resist. I also tried their grilled chicken and cabbage, which were both pretty decent. Portions are huge. They give you tons of food for less than $6! read more

I have eaten here for lunch several times. The staff is friendly but at the same time will rush you into ordering. I have only had their jalapeño shrimp, la main and fried rice and corn bread muffin. The shrimp are delicious, however now they put the jalapeño on the shrimp are plating from under the counter (which I find kinda gross because I can't see what kind of container they are in). The la main is good but I would not recommend the fried rice. Also the corn bread muffin is ridiculously sweet so I buy it as a dessert. Peach-tree center is sketchy to eat at because ceiling is pipes and makes me feel dust might getting on the food. read more

I've always wondered how their food taste, as I've seen this place in several shopping centers. Gotta say it was just average. Wasn't nasty. But no wow for me. Honestly it tasted like a watered down combination of Chinese and Soul Food. The sauteed chcken was good. But I felt like some of the meats had the wrong name. This mall quick service location has quite a selection of food for those on the go. They have a couple of freshly prepared Chinese type syrupy fried chicken dishes, a couple of healthy seafood items, plain grilled chicken, and protein options. They offer lo-mein noodles, fried rice, many veggie items along with cut fruit and deserts. I love sweet tea and the Farmers Basket tea never disappoints. I don't waste $ getting the medium or large drink as they will happily refill your cup. The average price of a meat and two veggie sides will be around $7, and the small drink $2. read more

PEST CONTROL NEEDED My husband and I were looking over the lunch options. We had sampled the charbroiled chicken and it was delicious. It was perfectly seasoned without added salt or unnecessary ingredients, ( a rare find since many of the chicken options are breaded, fried and sauced). I really wanted some properly cooked and seasoned veggies but as we were discussing the options amongst ourselves, I noticed a roach crawling on the counter toward the prepared food. A pretty good food court fast food option. The meal has a semblance of a proper cooked meal as opposed to fast food, some of the dishes are interesting while others are staples, and the place has been very consistent for me. It's also inexpensive. The pluses: 1) The favorite dish: The Jalabeno meatballs are much tastier than the ones you find at IKEA - plus the spiciness is better suited for our southern latitudes. Although I would love to see them offer a Swedish version as well so you can combo both. 2) The variety: You can find pretty much anything here for whatever kind of meal you want. Want to eat healthy have some grilled chicken with broccoli. Want some comfort food - go for the Salisbury Steak with Mash. Want Asian have the spicy chicken with rice. 3) Good selection of vegetables. 4) Speed. The line moves quickly here. 5) They will let you taste anything before buying. I often try out 3-4 items before choosing. What could be better: 1) Well to be honest I'm not sure what grade the ingredients are but for $5-6 meal I wouldn't have the highest expectations.
