I wanted to love it. I really, really wanted to love it. And I wavered with how many stars to give, but ultimately, three is fair. Pros: The food. I will say that it was great. Definitely higher end, very fresh, well plated. We both left pretty full. Steak was cooked perfectly. I could somewhat justify the price of it based on the quality, but paired with the overall experience, it just wasn't for us. My husband and I have been to MANY expensive, higher end restaurants, both across the St. Louis region, across the nation, and across many a foreign country (Europe, Asia, Central America). For a $500 meal (two coursed meals and wine pairing), this just didn't hit the mark for us. We had a 7:30PM reservation for my Husband's birthday. We did not get our first course until 8:15. We went over 30 minutes in between some courses. Our wine glasses were empty most of the meal. The overall "experience" took almost 3 hours for four courses. We've been to restaurants where the meal was 2.5 - 3 hours, but it was not us waiting around. Here, we spent most of the time just waiting, wondering when our next course would be. The server gave lots of excuses, mostly "there was a big top in the bar room" but for the cost of the meal, that's not really an excuse. Especially when the restaurant wasn't full and we had made a reservation. We literally talked about getting up and walking out at one point. There was another couple that had an 8PM reservation, and they were getting the same courses as us, but before us. There was also a Gentleman that sat next to us who came in around 8:30, had three courses, and was out within an hour. This is St. Louis. The other few restaurants in the region at that price point have been white glove. Never an empty glass, attentive service, never waiting between courses. Honestly, I was somewhat appalled by my experience here, especially reading the other reviews. It was just not good. read more

Farmhaus in St. Louis is over here redefining dinner theater. Quite literally! The Salad of the Year goes to them! They come table side with a shaken up mason jar full of bright veggies and then dramatically dump it onto a plate. I've seen Broadway shows with less flair. And with all of this action, service is naturally friendly and up beat. Naturally, I got the tuna steak because, as the self-appointed Meat Police of St. Louis, I have a duty to keep it pescatarian. #StLouisPescatarianApproved and proud. We chose Farm Haus to celebrate our daughter's birthday and were not disappointed. Standout (besides the food) was the service which was personable but not hovering. Be prepared though to have a leisurely dinner. All three of us chose the chef's tasting menu (4 courses + dessert) and all total we were there nearly three hours. There is no lot or valet, but it's in a neighborhood, and we had no issue finding parking on street right in front. The space is on the small side with a bar area, which had a limited selection of liquor. The emphasis here is farm to table fresh with wine pairings. The tasting started with asparagus, then pasta, then fish, then beef. It was all very good but the beef was amazing. As the restaurant filled the kitchen got a bit slower but the wait for each course was worth it. The angel food cake served at end was delicious but nothing memorable. All in all - a nice evening and we will go back. Ambiance is a blend between formal and casual. More of a special occasion restaurant, with a small menu thoughtfully presented. Farmhaus is literally my favorite restaurant in the globe (actual) It has a small town vibe with a big city feel when it comes to the food. Dress up or keep it casual you are welcome. Always. And the staff (even over the years) become family. I'm here regularly, the menu changes frequently because they have such a massive focus on a local farm to table concept. Dishes may change day of based on what is available. I recommend all of it, but if you've never had a tasting menu this is the spot to do it. It's 6 courses with the option of adding wine pairings and it changes so frequently you don't need to worry about it getting "old". Dillon and Kevin will introduce you to flavors and textures you never expected and it will always exceed your expectations. I've attached some photos of the last standard tasting experience I did (about two weeks ago) but I will admit I'm here about once a month to do the tasting simply because it gives me a chance to try so many items off the menu. That said, I do personally believe the menu is VERY reasonably priced for the standard menu as well. It's a wonderful spot for dinner too, not just the tasting menu. I always have extra portions and I try something new nearly every time I'm there. Pro tip: ALWAYS order the empanadas as an app. Tasting menu or not, you must start with these. Pro tip 2: always make reservations. Pro tip 3: always get dessert. (Pot de creme is a staple in my life). Please note, it's a small restaurant, I'm seeing some reviews speaking to the pace of the establishment. I strongly encourage folks to be present and don't rush through this meal. OH! And always order dessert. It's small, it's local, and when they are busy, keep in mind many parties may be having a 6 course meal. Join in the fun and show this cozy neighborhood hotspot some love. This place was amazing! The vibe was chill, great for date night, or just a night out to enjoy some wonderful food and drinks. We did make reservations as it was a Friday night and wasn't sure how busy they normally are. We were seated immediately and our server came over to take our drink orders. I had a glass of wine. We opted for the a la carte menu and started with the braised beef neck empanadas. They were excellent! You can tell they were freshly made and had really good flavors. For my entrée, I had the black Angus prime ribeye. It was prepared to my liking and was served over smashed sweet potatoes and green beans. Quite delicious and filling. Of course, the night was not complete without a dessert. And I ended up getting a semifreddo served with strawberry meringues. To die for! Service was wonderful from the moment we were seated to the time we left. Our server was lovely and we were checked on a few times by the host, he even stopped to chat about their offerings. It was easy to tell they are passionate about what they do here. I obviously cannot sing enough praises about this place and I cannot wait until my next visit here. Farmhaus is legit. Rock hard 5 stars. Chef Dillon and his staff presented a tasting menu that reminded us how good we are at eating while also drinking heavily. There were 15 of us, which is usually a disaster of chaos, but Farmhaus handled it easily. The table app was what I'm assuming was a fancy pork rind that was awesome. I can't stand pork rinds and I ate a chunk of that thing. I chose the wine pairing option, so every course came with booze. I don't drink wine, so it was fun to get surprised with booze all night. No clue what it cost, cause I was moderately drunk when I made that decision. The first shot fired was a gazpacho. I'm a stupid person, so I blew on my first spoonful then realized its supposed to be cold. Once I got over that, I could appreciate the flavor. I'd compare it to a cold, creamy salsa soup. I ripped through one small bowl and then used a second one as a dipping sauce for the pork rind thing. If you're thinking it, you're right...I'm classy. After that, it's kind of a blur...pasta, booze, fish, meats, sauces, booze, sorbet, booze, ice cream, booze. Each round was better than the last. If I had a gun to my head and was ordered to pick a favorite, it was the pasta. It was this awesome ravioli in a creamy sauce that was so good it would make Chef Boyardee climb out of his watery grave to shake the chefs hand then go back to the cold abyss, knowing his pasta is straight up garbage and he should be ashamed of what he's done to all of us.. For a few hours I was in fat man-baby heaven. As I've stated multiple times, you get what you pay for. Farmhaus is on the higher end of the cost spectrum, but it's worth every penny. I used the commode only once, but I found it to be clean and inviting. They earned the coveted 5th star, which is rare. read more

My wife and I came here for our 6th anniversary. We had gone to Ivanhoe Sno shaved ice which is attached to Bubba's Deli a number of times. We had never realised that Farmhaus was on the same block. It is a relatively quiet area with a handful of bars and restaurants spread across Ivanhoe. Babe's Tavern, Vinnie's Italian Beef, and Pizza a Go Go are just north of Farmhouse. It is actually a nice bock that we will come back to and try out some more restaurants. At Farmhaus we went ahead and did the pre fixe menue and wine pairing. The three courses were a pasta dish with roasted tomatoes (very good), a fish dish (good), and then a steak dish with broccoli and roasted onions (outstanding). The wine pairings were a proseco and then two red wines. The wine with the steak was dryer than we would normally drink but worked very well with the meal. For dessert we got Chocolate Pot De Crème which as its name suggests is a "pot of custard." Think a chocolate creme brulee but without the carmalized sugar crust. The service was attentive and helpful, making a reservation was easy to do online, and the atmosphere was intimate. Since it was our anniversary they also gave us an extra class of proseco. I could not have been happier with the service. Overall it was a great anniversary dinner. The one drawback was that it was relatively expensive. With tip the bill for two ran over $300. A big chunk of that was the wine pairing. In retrospect we should have just done one glass per course and split it between the two of us. Our first time at the restaurant. It's a small, cosy environment. They try and make all of their offerings with locally produced ingredients. The food was great! I had the filet mignon with a deglaze, broccolini that was seasoned just right, lightly steamed then apparently flash seared. It had a bit of meatiness and was quite savory. It came with mashed potatoes intermixed with sweet potatoes. My wife had the spaghetti with a béchamel sauce with Parmesan corn and scallops. Desert was pot de crème. It was fantastic! Whipped cream with ancho chilies and a nice dark chocolate topped with cocoa nibs. The service was prompt and our waitress explained everything quite well and in depth. I did have a little trouble hearing her, but that may be on me. Be prepared to spend a good amount of money, but well deserved! Sorry, I took no pictures as it seemed uncouth at the time. Very low-key, classy restaurant located in a quiet neighborhood in St. Louis. Overall, each dish had great flavors, the staff was very welcoming and friendly, and the wine and pomegranate martini was on point. Their menu changes on the daily as well. I like that I left feeling perfectly full and satisfied but not stuffed. 4.5/5 stars Ravioli dish- served with pine nuts, delicious sauce and flavors. Unfortunately, this dish was lukewarm/ bordering cold. But again, sauce and the textures were amazing. Served hot would have been outstanding. Wish the portion was slightly larger and I would have had it as my entree. Shrimp- Wasn't expecting this level of spice. Was almost too spicy for us but all the flavors and textures worked well together. The polenta was to die for! A little bit warmer than the ravioli but still lukewarm. Came with about 4 shrimps, perfect appetizer to split with 2 people. Lamb- Chefs special of the night, cooked medium rare, perfectly seasoned. I did the chefs tasting - perfect portion sizes. It's the best of ingredients you know well but turns up to 11. The building is fine. Trust me you won't even note that you'll be too busy with taste to notice. Street parking is plentiful. Place got mildly loud about 7:30. We could still have a solid convo just 6-7 we had the place mostly to ourselves. Service was that perfect like of attentions without being hover-y. They will happily split checks. We were sat at a table that had paper over the table cloth. We did love our waitress. She was sweet and personable. We opted to order a la carte. The food was delivered promptly. While it was good, I don't feel like it was anything special - the New York strip steak entree was divine though. I'm sad to not leave a 5 star review because we were really excited to go here for our anniversary and do the tasting menu. The pasta and kebobs were barely warm when they arrived to our table and instead of the scallops we got a piece of fried flounder. It was very underwhelming. The steak was great and the dessert but for spending $400 (2 tastings and a bottle of wine) we weren't thrilled with the experience. If you get sat in the bar area you are pretty much sharing a table with your neighbors as well. The couple next to us said it was their favorite restaurant so maybe we caught them on a bad night. read more

I love the farm to table aspect of the restaurant. The time between each entree was a little longer than we are used to, but it honestly worked out better because we got to spend more time together at our table and just talk. We had the chef's pre-fixe menu and they were able to accommodate my boyfriend with a different gluten-free first course. The food was amazing and all had fresh produce and was very tasty. If you don't follow your favorite restaurants on Twitter, I highly recommend that you do. If I were not following, Farmhaus on Twitter, I would have never known that they were preparing one of my favorites on Mother's Day weekend. When they sent out the tweet that they were serving, Soft Shell Crab that week-end, I responded back with a simple, tweet. "I'll be there." Arriving on Friday night, I seated myself at the bar. Being a lone diner, I hate tying up a two-top table from the servers. Besides, other fun people also dine at the bar and I like a good company. Sitting at the bar, I of course had to start my evening out with a cocktail. I'll have a, Manhattan, please. Farmhaus is not known for its' cocktails, but I will say they do an excellent job making a classic Manhattan. As I read the menu, I got doubly excited. Not only were they serving one of my favorite seafoods this evening, they were also serving one of my favorite vegetables - asparagus. Life is good and I know this dinner is going to be delicious. If that were not enough excitement, on the dessert menu was, Lemon Poppy Seed cake with vanilla ice cream. I am so glad I am a Twitter follower of Farmhaus. My asparagus was served, "loaded". It had prosciutto, Gouda Espuma, Shoe String Potatoes and Spring Onion Ash. The asparagus was prepared to the perfect tenderness. To my delight, I enjoyed two soft shell crabs split in half and corn flour fried. They were served with a soy-lime aioli, pickled ramp and english pea salad. Some may frown upon eating a shell, but this is my second favorite seafood, right behind scallops and they are a very close second. Dessert completed the evening. To accompany my Lemon Poppy Seed Cake, I enjoyed an after dinner Grand Marnier. The LPSC was basically a pound cake and it was moist. It was served with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream and pieces of orange meringue. The fresh citrus taste made this a very refreshing and lite dessert. Service at the bar is always attentive. I still miss the, Blue Plate lunches of years gone by, but dinner at Farmhaus is always a 5 Star experience. First visit and what drove me here was the receipt of a gift card. My friend and I had a reservation for 6p on a Tuesday. Arriving on time, we were the only diners, so fair to say that walk-in would have been fine this day. We both settled on the Filet Mignon entree, as is no substitutions. We were a bit surprised at the wait time for our meals, it seemed to take longer than we expected and as a result we asked for some bread, which was provided quickly. When our meals came out, we were immediately excited by the plate. Our first bites resulted with pleasant Mmmmm's!! I ordered my filet medium well and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce/glaze, while very light was perfect for the meat. The carrots.. oh the carrots!! They were awesome! A light glaze, slightly sweet and outstanding. I ate all of them on the plate first. The mashed potatoes (a mix of russet and sweet potato) were wonderful as well. I have nothing but glowing comments for this dish. It was well worth the wait. This place is located in an unassuming residential neighborhood. It's pretty small with some bar seating. I would really really recommend a reservation. The chef was nominated for a James Beard Award and it is extremely well deserved. Most items are from farm to table. They have a tasting menu and then an al la cart of small and larger plates. At first, the description of the winter menu didn't really catch my eye. But everything and I mean everything I had was delicious. Pros: 1) Ozark Mushroom Salad (get this!!!) 2) Crab-cakes - lots of citrus and flavorful 3) Parsley noodles with clams (Yes, I'm a believer) 4) Duck with veg. roots and it was a sweet, savory, flavor. The trick is to mix all the sauces together! 5) Dessert- homemade ice-cream/apple tart There was nothing I didn't like and strangely enough - my fav. thing was this mushroom salad! And the service is impeccable, friendly, and non-pretentious. Cons: 1) They have tight quarters - especially if you are a table of two. Just be aware that you might be able to smell your neighbor's food - but that could be a good thing. This place is truly awesome. Farmhaus is a south city favorite. It's literally a hidden gem as the building is super unassuming from the outside. Watch your step upon entering. The atmosphere is generally cozy. Good for groups as well as private dinners. We had the most pleasant waitress ever. Everyone including manager, possibly owner, buss boy etc. played their part to ensure our table had a great dining experience. The shrimp and grits I had was delicious and well seasoned. The table decided to do the Chef's Pre Fixe meal and wine pairings. While we were excited to try this menu, we have decided it seems a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious, the freshly made butternut squash agnolotti was great. The 2nd course of flounder was fantastic and the tri-tip steak was also very good. But we believe ordering apps and entrees from the menu would have been the better option. The wine pairing of 3 glasses of wine is priced about right. Will definitely go back, but won't be ordering the Chefs Pre-Fixe menu. read more

Started with the wok fried kale appetizer, garnished with toasted almonds and finished with honey and it was so good my dining partner asked if I was going to lick the plate (well, maybe...). I did a bit of research on top chefs in Saint Louis for a trip in October and found Farmhaus and I am very glad I did. Chef Kevin Willmann is doing fantastic dishes and supporting local farms. The restaurant is very cozy with simple yet elegant look and feel perfect for a date night or a special celebration. I believe the menu changes regularly depending on what is fresh and in season (seafood, meat, veggies etc). I cannot say enough about the service either. From the minute you step in the door the staff is incredibly nice and helpful with recommendations. The Chef was even nice enough and took time on a busy Friday evening to come by our table to say hello and see how we were enjoying the food. read more
