Luckily the local wildlife didn't get into the buns during the 3 hours sitting on the porch.
    Ray F.

I joined up and placed an order to participate in the Yelp Campfire Chili Dog Event. Signing up was easy and ordering was easy! I also order a medium produce bundle and some sweet treats. Everything arrived on the scheduled day but it sat out on the front porch most of the afternoon in full view of the world. The cold stuff was in insulated bags with frozen ice packs to keep them at the right temperature. My work day was short that day AND it was 10 degrees below normal summer temperature, so all worked out well. The buns were not packed in anything other than their cellophane bag and luckily the racoons, possums, squirrels, dogs or birds didn't get after them! I allowed substitutions, my mistake, as I really wanted blueberries but got nectarines. Also in the bundle was collard greens which l used to line the trash (they do not get along with my insides). For a medium bundle, there were as many red onions as potatoes and the amount of potatoes sent, wasn't enough for 3 people. The squash sent were 2 rounded varieties. I thought they were going to be yellow squash (my favorite). Anyways, for many people this was probably a great selection and most would be thrilled with it, me, not so much. The chili dog kit of 44 Farm Angus hotdogs, large pack of potato buns, quart of chili, package of diced yellow onion and package of organic finely shredded 3 cheeses was quite nice. The dogs were really good, the chili was great! The juicy onion was very sweet and the cheese was quite tasty! I ordered a box of lemon cookies and a few blueberry muffins and all of those were quite good. It was definitely something new to me and for many people, they would absolutely love this service and selection! It was obvious this was decent quality food! I do suggest this service for those that could make better use of it than me!

How they hold food inside. Ice bags are in freezer.

I Tried this food delivery service for an online Yelp event. Honestly I wasn't expecting much or to be wowed because my family has tried them...all. Well I was surprised that it was local farmers and the variety online. Some of my favorites! We started with their campfire chili dog bundle, produce box, Brie and feta (which got swapped with pizza crust due to item being out of stock). If presentation on packaging was definitely they were spot on and took care of the food. I even got a hand written note welcoming me to the company and a small pouch of sweet basil to plant in my garden. Chili dog were more than enough to feed a family of 5. Chili was made with TX ale and was so good. Almost like Wolf chili but not as spicy. Sad I didn't take pics of food arrival. Next order

Berry box and large fruit box. There is a little more on the bottom that you can't see.

I was a little disappointed at first at the quantity of the product in the box versus what I paid, but then we tasted the fruit and I quickly realized that you are paying for amazing tasting organic fruit. The watermelon was the sweetest tastiest that I have had in a long long time. The fruit was very cold and the box arrived on the day that it was supposed to.

I received my first Farmhouse delivery yesterday and today it was time to have fun on the grill! To clarify, I had fun putting the delivery items on the grill. I grilled chicken thighs for tacos, chicken drumsticks, and corn on the cob with coconut glaze. I am definitely covered for the coming week. I really appreciate the convenience of Farmhouse, the regular communication, and ease of tracking my order. I highly recommend Farmhouse delivery.

Beautiful living lettuce. They say they include at least one head of some kind of lettuce in every basket for fresh salads.

Since Bountiful Baskets seems to have forgotten our location a couple of years ago, I've been searching for a produce delivery service I could feel good about. I found Farmhouse Delivery. They deliver from local small Texas farms. Today was my first delivery. Most of what I got is organic and from within 150 miles of me, though many are much closer. It's all very fresh and ripe or almost ripe to eat. In addition to produce, I can get artisanal cheese and bread, bagels, pie, sweets and treats. I got farm fresh free range eggs and humanely raised grass and pastured meats, uncured bacon, soup bones with marrow and organ meats. I'll put more pictures on the food blog later. Is about double the price of BB, and that's a downside, but it's local, fresh and organic, and BB was none of those things. Plus the benefits of the other items. Their truck is refrigerated too. And it comes to my door not a pick up place. And I can order weekly if I want, where BB Was only every other week. They have meal kits for a full family meal, everything you need to make that one meal. Their customer service is awesome so far and you even get recipes to try with your produce! This is great if you get something new you've never had and aren't sure how to prepare it. I'm seriously impressed. It even tells you on the invoice which farms provided what, and I can shop by farm on the website! I think I'm gushing, but the birds and I are going to love trying new local produce every week! I got 18 pounds of Texas Grapefruit to make juice! It's like being able to shop at a farmers market without leaving your house. Because my wheelchair doesn't work well at many farmers markets, Farmhouse Delivery is bringing the market to me so I can benefit from this amazing, fresh produce, meats and dairy!

    one delivery.

We selected Green Gate because of the location (its one of the few farms actually IN Austin city limits), the variety of produce they offered, and the overall value. Every Saturday morning, we would take the short drive to the farm to get our fresh veggies. Some other CSA's have your veggies all bagged up for you ready to go. Green Gate does it a little differently, and we like their way much better. For CSA members, there is a chalkboard listing what is in the weekly share (i.e. 2 heads of broccoli, a bag of green beans, 1 head of each variety of lettuce, etc...) and then like at the farmer's market, you get to select your own. They also have a farm stand for non-CSA members or in case you need an extra squash (but trust me, you will never need an extra squash!), some eggs, fresh meat, flowers, or a tomato plant, you can pick that up there and skip the grocery store altogether. We really enjoyed our bounty and discovered some new veggies (hooray for kohlrabi!). We are eagerly awaiting the first Fall harvest. But be forewarned-you get a LOT of veggies and things could get ugly. Between my friend and me, we were feeding 2 two-member households. The veggies had no shame, and why should they? They were fresh, young, delectable. They took over my refrigerator and ganged up to intimidate my other food. Tortillas were hiding in the back, trying to go unnoticed. Yogurt was cowering behind Salsa, while Salsa was just trying to blend in. I found non organic store-bought Carrots withered and dead in the deli drawer. It appears to have been a suicide, but that was the last straw for the older inhabitants of my fridge. I could tell they were planning something big. After the Carrots incident I had to start giving away my excess veggies before there was a Mutiny on the Bounty.

More unique than other farms, this farm also launched its own product line of condiments and the like--local mayonnaise? Too cool. Their cilantro pecan pesto boasts a nutty, yet smooth flavor--less pungent than most jarred stuff, far too heavy on the garlic flavor, in my opinion. This green goop, crafted from local goods, would make a great addition to practically any dish. And what "thoughtful" and "moralistic" eater, generally enjoying grub of the vegetal varietal, would not partake in a CSA (community-supported agriculture) box, what with its local feel and feel good appeal? I rate this place a 3 because there is some work to be done to get this market ramped up and really stocked with goodies. I visited during the weekly Saturday 9 am to 1 pm hours to find a small handful of vendors. There were several arts and crafts stands, a masseuse, and a couple of jelly/preserves sellers. There were a few produce vendors, but selection was pretty limited. I did get some nice locally grown squash. I'm not sure how much the limited selection had to do with the horrific summer we've had or if it was the newness of the market. My favorite vendor was Richardson Farms. They were offering free range eggs, chicken, pork products (including fresh uncured bacon), and grass fed beef. The eggs and pork we bought were reasonably priced and freaking delicious. This isn't yet a major farmer's market, so some visitors might be a bit disappointed with the selection. It is my hope that this one will pick up momentum and draw more shoppers and vendors.

Not to mention some jewelry, honey and pralines. Living out in the hinterlands of Cedar Park, I was super stoked to find out about this (thanks Chris S!). I haven't found any CSA's to deliver to my house, but I can now order from some of these folks online and then pick up on Saturdays here. And it beats the hell outta getting up early Saturdays and driving all the way to San Antonio (aka Sunset Valley). Richardson Farms provides grass fed beef and pork and chicken, and another stall had what's called "design your dine" with pre-frozen fresh organic dinners that you just thaw out and cook and they say each one is only about 500 calories. Came home with some zukes, some pasta, a coupla pork chops and some fanfreakintasticly fresh pico de gallo from Kala's Kuisine, which apparently has won 2 years in a row now at the Hot Sauce Festival (and I can see why). I would encourage all my fellow Northerners to check this out.....but I still wanna keep it my own private farmers market. Enigma.
