Farmhouse Delivery - Two bins full of organic goodies - CSA Near Me - Austin, Texas

I joined up and placed an order to participate in the Yelp Campfire Chili Dog Event. Signing up was easy and ordering was easy! I also order a medium produce bundle and some sweet treats. Everything arrived on the scheduled day but it sat out on the front porch most of the afternoon in full view of the world. The cold stuff was in insulated bags with frozen ice packs to keep them at the right temperature. My work day was short that day AND it was 10 degrees below normal summer temperature, so all worked out well. The buns were not packed in anything other than their cellophane bag and luckily the racoons, possums, squirrels, dogs or birds didn't get after them! I allowed substitutions, my mistake, as I really wanted blueberries but got nectarines. Also in the bundle was collard greens which l used to line the trash (they do not get along with my insides). For a medium bundle, there were as many red onions as potatoes and the amount of potatoes sent, wasn't enough for 3 people. The squash sent were 2 rounded varieties. I thought they were going to be yellow squash (my favorite). Anyways, for many people this was probably a great selection and most would be thrilled with it, me, not so much. The chili dog kit of 44 Farm Angus hotdogs, large pack of potato buns, quart of chili, package of diced yellow onion and package of organic finely shredded 3 cheeses was quite nice. The dogs were really good, the chili was great! The juicy onion was very sweet and the cheese was quite tasty! I ordered a box of lemon cookies and a few blueberry muffins and all of those were quite good. It was definitely something new to me and for many people, they would absolutely love this service and selection! It was obvious this was decent quality food! I Tried this food delivery service for an online Yelp event. Honestly I wasn't expecting much or to be wowed because my family has tried them...all. Well I was surprised that it was local farmers and the variety online. Some of my favorites! We started with their campfire chili dog bundle, produce box, Brie and feta (which got swapped with pizza crust due to item being out of stock). If presentation on packaging was definitely they were spot on and took care of the food. I even got a hand written note welcoming me to the company and a small pouch of sweet basil to plant in my garden. Chili dog were more than enough to feed a family of 5. When we first ordered we were super impressed by the ease, selection, quality & variety. After several months of regular use drivers began leaving entire huge plastic cartons on our porch and telling us they didn't have time to take them back as they ran away. They stunk and we didn't have space to store rotting food soaked newspaper scraps and huge plastic bins... Then The food quality & packaging took a nose dive; sauces were spilled, fresh herbs were rotten, the final straw was the 'fresh organic local chicken' we received in late Feb w/an expiration of late Dec. I was a little disappointed at first at the quantity of the product in the box versus what I paid, but then we tasted the fruit and I quickly realized that you are paying for amazing tasting organic fruit. At this point this review is related to the excellent customer service that I received very recently. When I get my first basket of the products I ordered I will leave another review on the products themselves. I am participating in a forthcoming zoom event and decided to purchase the chili dog package as our whole family loves chili dogs adults and children alike. I was also privileged to participate in some additional products from farmhouse delivery. Unfortunately, I forgot to put the information in my recent order and the time had passed for me to add it to my order. When I realized this, I sent a note to Farmhouse and hoped for the best. Much to my delight they responded first thing this morning, only a few hours after I had sent them the email. I received a communication from Casey S. regarding my specific situation advising me they would fix the problem for me and I would see the products in my order, which I will be receiving on my order day which is Thursday (tomorrow in this particular instance.) I am very impressed by the rapid response and the ability to solve my problem from one email advising them of my situation. Frankly, customer service is as important, if not more important to me than the product itself in 99% of everything I purchase. I received my first Farmhouse delivery yesterday and today it was time to have fun on the grill! To clarify, I had fun putting the delivery items on the grill. I grilled chicken thighs for tacos, chicken drumsticks, and corn on the cob with coconut glaze. I am definitely covered for the coming week. Tried getting my product into their delivery service and realize how racist and Xenophobic they are. They told me they only sell local which isn't true. They sell other brands not from Texas and who use international ingredients. They also claim those products that aren't local are organic, again not all of them are. My product is from another, primarily black country and has gone through appropriate testing. They didn't want to consider it because it's not made by white people! read more

Since Bountiful Baskets seems to have forgotten our location a couple of years ago, I've been searching for a produce delivery service I could feel good about. I found Farmhouse Delivery. They deliver from local small Texas farms. Today was my first delivery. Most of what I got is organic and from within 150 miles of me, though many are much closer. It's all very fresh and ripe or almost ripe to eat. In addition to produce, I can get artisanal cheese and bread, bagels, pie, sweets and treats. I got farm fresh free range eggs and humanely raised grass and pastured meats, uncured bacon, soup bones with marrow and organ meats. I'll put more pictures on the food blog later. Is about double the price of BB, and that's a downside, but it's local, fresh and organic, and BB was none of those things. Plus the benefits of the other items. Their truck is refrigerated too. And it comes to my door not a pick up place. And I can order weekly if I want, where BB Was only every other week. They have meal kits for a full family meal, everything you need to make that one meal. Their customer service is awesome so far and you even get recipes to try with your produce! This is great if you get something new you've never had and aren't sure how to prepare it. I'm seriously impressed. It even tells you on the invoice which farms provided what, and I can shop by farm on the website! I think I'm gushing, but the birds and I are going to love trying new local produce every week! I got 18 pounds of Texas Grapefruit to make juice! It's like being able to shop at a farmers market without leaving your house. Because my wheelchair doesn't work well at many farmers markets, Farmhouse Delivery is bringing the market to me so I can benefit from this amazing, fresh produce, meats and dairy! read more

I have been using Farmhouse for multiple months now and I love it! I am currently subscribed to the medium size bushel which is great for one to two people. Every Wednesday I put out my CSA bin right outside my front door and Farmhouse will replace it with a fresh bushel. I like it because I don't have to show up to a parking lot to pick up my CSA during a designated date and time. Farmhouse allows you to put three things on your dislike list so you never get those items even if they are currently in season. Each bushel comes with a packing list and also information on how to store each fruit and veggie to make them last the longest amount of time. Every once in awhile they will include a magazine and or recipe cards for your bushel. On the Farmhouse website, you can add other things to your order like meats, bread, milk, additional fruits and veggies, hummus, meal kits, egg, etc. I typically add a dozen of eggs to my order and have included a few things here and there. Note, they will work around vacations. I had to take three weeks off and just put on a vacation hold without any problems. read more

Been a loyal customer for years. We order weekly meal kits and groceries. The fact that they support local farmers, butchers, bakers, and artisans makes being their customer more meaningful. The staff works hard, and I love the creativity of the chefs that create the meal kits. I like when they create special holiday menus. We are celiac and they honestly feed me each week. Whenever I have run into an issue ( recipe missing, or in the rare case of a missing item) they are quick to address it. read more

So far so good! I've had two bushels so far and I'm always excited to see what I'll get. The cucumbers are wonderful, the cremini mushrooms were super fresh. I've also gotten winter and summer squashes, at least 10 super crunchy pears, sweet bell peppers, basil/chives, tomatoes (some vine ripe, some had to be ripened), butter lettuce, okra, arugala, etc. The variety is ridiculous so far. I actually split a bi-weekly supply with a coworker and it takes me about 1-1.5 weeks to use up half the basket. I typically cook 2 portions (dinner and next day lunch) everyday. read more

I have been a customer of farmhouse delivery for over four years now. I've done produce boxes, meal kits, and general ordering. I love that their products are from farms and businesses in our area and community. They provide easy meal kits and even quick heat and serve from local restaurants for way less than they would be at the restaurants. Their delivery is super easy and I love that they are curating specials for things like nye, super bowl, and valentines. I truly love seeing what they're planning for every week and love that they're supporting the community and forming relationships with other small businesses. I seriously cannot say enough wonderful things about Farmhouse!! Their customer service is incredible. The produce quality is unbeatable. The variety is great! Every week it's different. You don't just get 4 heads of cabbage and 6 eggplants (like I've heard my friends complain about with their CSAs), you get a wonderful variety of beautiful fruits and veggies that changes every week. If you email them they get right back to you. They are very accommodating - You don't like ocra? You will never see it in your CSA if you let them know you don't want it. Since I've been with them (March of 2011) I haven't had a single complaint. I just had to call them yesterday to cancel my account. It was very, very sad. I'm moving up to Olympia, Washington next week, otherwise I would continue to use Farmhouse. I will miss them soooo much! It is going to be hard to find a replacement up in the PNW. read more

If yes to any of these, then congratulations, you're just like me. I've been using Farmhouse or its previous version for at least 5 years. I love it because it's like going to the farmer's market without having to go. It used to be because I couldn't wake my butt up, but now it's a pain to drag 2 kids to a farmer's market after a long week. Solution: have the farmer's market delivered to me. Just like my life has changed over the last 5 years, my grocery needs have changed. When I had/have the time, I LOVE using what I get in my produce box in new and creative ways. It was always a challenge to see how I could make the weirdest stuff work. Now that I'm short on time, they've added meal kits, so it cuts down on the time I need to spend meal planning. I also love that they incorporate things that might otherwise go to waste into these bundles. Sometimes, if I've got a lot of ingredients at home, but need a little sumthin' sumthin' to make it interesting, I'll get something from the condiment or sauce section that Farmhouse makes. If you're short on ideas, the invoice always has meal ideas. And my 2 fruit flies LOVE the fruit bundle. The fruit, especially in the summer, is super ripe (NOT code for rotten) and SO MUCH sweeter than what you can get in the store. We still get the produce bundle every other week, because #vegetables & #adulting. We've also added milk and occasionally the staples bundle (milk + bread + eggs). I just noticed that there are fruit pouches for kids!! And lactation bites! (Just added all that to my next order.) I started using Farmhouse Delivery last year and quickly found a pattern of items that were no longer available, poor quality of vegetables and a slow increase in their pricing. Weekly, I would have to contact them regarding an issue with ie pasta sauce container was cracked and the sauce unusable, to produce that should have been thrown out instead of sent to a customer. At one point, one the customer service person told me to take photos next time and send them--maybe you need to check produce before it goes out. I stopped using them as I would plan meals around what I ordered and then when delivered, items I needed were not available. I'm such a fan of Farmhouse Delivery!! I randomly saw them have a table at the Cedar Park Farmer's Market promoting their Meal Kits. I signed up and for several months just did the weekly supper club meal kit. They were a big lifesaver for me as a new mom. I've tried other meal delivery kits and they were too complicated, not quality food, too time consuming, etc. Farmhouse Delivery has figured it out - their meal kits are perfection! The sauces, dressings, marinades, etc are already made (and amazing) so most meals take 10-15 minutes of prep and 15 minutes cook time and you have a gourmet meal that's healthy and local. Our family has loved some more than others, but we've never had a bad meal. I made a pork chop dish with peaches a couple weeks ago and it was literally the best thing I've ever made in my life. I honestly don't even really like pork and almost didn't choose it as one of my meals. After I ate everything on my plate, I picked up the plate so the sauce would run down and I wouldn't waste any..and then ashamedly, I licked the plate. I couldn't help it! It was better than any fancy restaurant!!! We've started ordering much more than meal kits. We love the produce and fruit boxes. Some things I would not normally order are actually really good from here. Like cantaloupe - I always think it's boring and doesn't have much flavor but their cantaloupe is so juicy and delicious. Even my 1 and 3 year old love it. My husband is allergic to gluten and they have so many great options - meal kits, almond tortillas, breads, desserts, and more. All of their meat is soooo good and such better quality than any supermarket The website is pretty easy to navigate and it saves your favorites and previous orders so it's easy to add and change your order up until cut off time (about 48 hours before delivery). I love having fresh veggies, fruits and hard to find food items delivered every week. The driver who delivers my order is very nice. He makes sure to wait until I can get to my door to get my bin of food. Now about the produce. It is the best!! Everything we have received has been full of flavor. It isn't cardboard flavored, the food has flavor, sweetness, and tastes exactly as it is meant to taste. 6/14/2020 I want to update my May 4, 2020 review to inform everyone that after posting my negative review, I was almost immediately contacted by Ms. Megan Prast, director of customer experience for farmhouse delivery. Ms. Prast apologized for the bad experience we had and went out of her way to make amends and to have us try the service again. Ms. Prast was very fair with us and we have since used Farmhouse Delivery again. This time our experience was satisfactory and I am hopeful that if any problems arise in the future, Farmhouse Delivery will continue to be responsive to us. In retrospect, I think the service makes good sense in order to encourage and support local growers with our business. I really want to like this service. Thier products and customer service are both awesome. Everything is fresh and delicious. I have been ordering from them weekly for several months. However there is literally at least one item missing in every single order. Clearly it's a problem with thier packing/checking lists. The produce box always had two or three of the listed items missing. They always refunded me after emailing them, but for example if I ordered pasta sauce and fresh pasta the pasta would not arrive, which is rather inconvenient. It's a great concept, and I hope they can work out thier packing issues. read more

I started this during the early stages of the COVID19 crisis. It's awesome for convenience! I order online and can just gradually add to my weekly order as I think of things I need. My order arrives automatically and is a no contact delivery. And the food! High quality foods that taste incredible. Truly, I was surprised at how much more flavorful the produce is. Eating food from farmhouse delivery makes me realize just how bland the grocery store produce has become. I knew apples had become less flavorful over the years, but apparently so have mushrooms, tomatoes, corn, lettuce...name it, and this delivery produce is going to taste better. I was bored one really rediculously hot Sunday and wound up watching like, 9 hours of this HBO special on the obesity epidemic in America and got all fired up and decided I was going to eat organic! No wait, I AM GOING TO EAT VEGETABLES! What's a vegetable? I don't eat vegetables, I hate vegetables. What the hell do I do with a vegetable? I knew I'd never be able to stand there in Whole Foods and pick out random veggies and know what to do with them. Or know what's in season. Or know if they were actually organic or not. So I did a lil research and found this cool delivery service and thought I'd try it out and see how it went. The fact that they provide recipes that go with each week's shipment on their website sold me! First shipment, squash. A lot of squash. And eggplant. And zucchini. And okra. Hmmm... what the hell do I do with this? Make gumbo, YAY! I like gumbo. Make eggplant parmesean! YEAH never would have thought of that! Now what the hell do I do with squash and zucchini? Grill it? Um... sure!!!! Hey! Grilled veggies are good!! The little cherry like tomatoes are so tasty and sweet, I just sit with the container and a tupperware of hummus and go to town. So now I've had a few shipments and it's like Christmas on my porch every 2 weeks! I still don't quite know what to do with all this eggplant but it's forcing me to broaden my culinary horizons. I recently moved back to Houston after a few years in AZ. After my great experience with Nature's Garden Delivered (see my other reviews), I wanted to sign up for a local produce service in Htown. I chose Farmhouse Delivery over other services for two reasons: one, they deliver to my house, and two, we could add other local items, most specifically Mill-King milk, to our order. The Farmhouse Delivery website uses the word "bushel" kind of oddly, to mean a box or delivery, regardless of volume. The website says that the " Large bushel is perfect for enthusiastic cooks or households of 3-4". My household has three adults, so we signed up for the "Large Bushel". When the delivery arrived, I was surprised to find so little produce in the box. Keeping in mind the nutritional guidelines recommending that each adult eat 5+ servings of produce per day, this is enough to feed us for about 3-4 days. I contacted Farmhouse Delivery about this, thinking that there might have been a mistake, and this was the response: "The large bushel does contain 9 - 11 items per week, but you will need to add other items to feed a family for a week. You can add additional produce to your delivery to fill in the gaps and have enough food delivered to feed your family for a week." I would say that the description on their website is false advertising. If the large bushel is perfect for households of 3-4, that indicates to me that it will be enough to fill our produce needs for the week. I shouldn't have to buy other produce to fill in gaps (though of course we do buy other, non-produce items.) read more

First off, the customer service aspect of Farmhouse - Wow, just...WOW. They are very friendly, very personal, and have an insane turnaround time when contacting them through email. Freakishly fast. Jesse must be glued to the computer, because my questions were responded to immediately. They also send out very helpful tips and recipes with every bushel, so you're not stuck wondering what to do with some produce you've never cooked with before. All of the produce is locally grown and delicious. Everything in our bushel was very fresh, and I like that you get some fruit too. Nature candy, woot! I also like how they are a cross between Greenling and a CSA. You can add a slew of other local items to your bushel (ranging from meats to pantry to dairy, and more), and they email you before your next delivery with a list of items to see if you would like to add any to your bushel this time around. This is a great way to support local agriculture and introduce a wider variety and more veggies into your diet, and the price isn't too bad either.
