Farrah's Harrogate Toffee has been an institution in Harrogate for as long as I can remember, known for its hard, tacky, physical feel and its sweet, slightly buttery, barley sugar-like, taste. Moreover, its trade-mark deep blue-and-silver tins have come to serve as a symbol not only of the Farrah company but Harrogate itself and are known now far beyond Yorkshire. The Farrah company has, to its credit, set up an impressive visitors' centre and shop and also does a good business in shipping its sticky confection far and wide.
