When my parents came to visit recently, we stopped by Emerhoff's Footwear to get me a new pair of sneakers (mine had holes in the heels) and also to find a solid pair of shoes for my upcoming internship. The service was amazing--from the wide selection and quality brands to the genuinely helpful staff. I was able to try on a bunch of different sneakers until I found the right pair. Then, when it came to the work shoes, they helped me test out insoles and different fits until we found something that worked perfectly. A special shoutout to Chloe--she went above and beyond. They ordered the work shoes in for me, and instead of making me pay a ridiculous shipping fee to get them to my dorm, Chloe personally delivered them. Amazing service and knowledge of their customer base, I am proud to say that they value quality and service in high regard. Huge thanks to both Chloe and the store owner for the top-notch service, not just during the purchase, but all the way through until the shoes were in my hands. I HIGHLY recommend Emerhoff's if you're in Ames or anywhere nearby. You won't be disappointed.

Staff members Amanda and Michael were so impressive, knowledgeable, and friendly. I love their huge selection of shoes, and their pricing is superb. BTW, great socks, including a new Florsheim model that both recommended and I now love. It's fun to go to a great store where the staff is elite. I was there today to find a matching wallet & purse. I took a wallet over to see if it matched. I put the wallet down by the purse, decided to think about it and made one more loop around the store before exiting. I got half way across the parking lot when an employee came hoofing across the parking lot and accused me of stealing the wallet - I told him it was by the matching purse and went back in the store to show him. He didn't apologize, not at all. I was humiliated and will never ever go back. I've shopped local for years to support this store, but I can order on line just as easy, and will.

But I had such a bad experience trying to return some socks at the Ankeny store I was mad enough to leave a review. The check who waited on me,I wish I had thought to get her name, was rude and condescending to me right from the start. When she heard I was making a return she seemed to have it already decided not to accept it. We're talking $20 socks with a receipt and the original pkg. I left the store so disgusted I vowed to cut up my card and do my future shopping elsewhere. Now for the flip side of this. I decided one clerk would not have won this and decided to try a different location. I went to the Merle Hay Mall location and got the pleasant customer experience I'm used to getting at SC. I wish I had got her name also. She was pleasant and efficient and I was in and out in less time than at the Ankeny store and actually got something accomplished. So 5 stars for the Merle Hay store zero stars for Ankeny. I have decided to keep my card and just avoid Ankeny SC. Thanks for letting me vent. Got home to find that it was missing the Delta plate it needed to attach the piece necessary to clip into the exercise bike. My wife called the store this morning and spoke to a supervisor to which he told my wife that they have the piece she needs that was missing and that they would not be able to mail it to us but instead will HOLD IT at the store for us which is 3 hours away at gas being $5 a gallon. 6 hours round trip for a small metal piece that cannot be found anywhere online including Amazon and Ebay. This is customer service? I called the store and spoke to the manager again and he told me he can't mail it and didn't give me a justified reason to why he couldn't only that "he just can't" and insisted the best they can do is hold them at the store.

They weren't overly busy but there was a good number of customers scattered around the store. I was looking for some new shoes for my 4 year old so we headed straight to that area. As I was viewing the wall of children's clearance shoes (quite the selection), a store associate asked if we needed help. Since I wasn't positive my 4 yr old was wearing the correct size, I asked if he could measure her. He said he gladly would. My daughter can be shy with strangers, especially men, but she told me right away that he was really nice and could measure her foot. After measuring her foot he asked if we needed more help. Since I didn't, we let him go on to the next customer. We were able to find some nice new shoes for her for $17. What a great deal! We looked around the store some more since I'd never been there. I found the socks my husband wears at the checkout for an additional 25% off. He goes through socks fast so I grabbed a bag of those. There was a short line at the checkout but they moved rather quickly. The associate checking us out was very nice and chatted about the crazy weather and also where he was from. It was a nice, not awkward, genuine conversation. Once I paid, the associate followed me to the door to help us out. This may sound awkward at first but I had our double stroller with us. It can be difficult to maneuver with double exit doors. I was pleasantly surprised at him following to help. You just don't see that much. I really hope they continue their great customer service. I plan to come back here for the next time we need Nike items.
