Not a large store so doesn't always have everything you want. But I normally go in there to have a look, I often find something I will buy. Staff are very helpful. Can get crowded due to the size of the shop. read more

Similar in theme to Macy's or Dillard's or Bloomingdale's in the States, the John Lewis department store is carved up into various sections for menswear, ladieswear, boys, girls, housewares, electronics, jewelry, perfumes and more. Very good service, which is what you are paying for. The electronics department includes televisions, radios and computers, priced at what I think are above PC World and Argos prices. All that said, it's a lovely store and a pleasant shopping experience. If I ever win the lottery, this is where I will blow most of my winnings.

The bedding and furniture departments were delightful in options and prices, everything from cheap as chips to in my dreams. The clothing has some great sales if you are able to come at the right time, and there seems to never be lines for the dressing rooms (that alone would make anyone a fan). Departments include clothing (mens/women/children), shoes, housewares, makeup/perfume, accessories, electronics, you name it they have it. Great if you need a gift for someone and are at a loss as there is bound to be something here. Should you not be able to make it to the Reading location, John Lewis also has an online gift registry which is sure to make life easier for all. Enjoy!

Really glad I did, got a lovely dress that I would never normally have picked up, but the staff working there just insisted I try it on as one of my many options. They weren't pushy at all though. I had loads of things and this was the least expensive and they said it looked great - didn't try to pressure me to buy the most expensive items. Recommend (but save up a little bit first)

I spent a lot of money for two…read moresuits, they took a little over six months, with 5 refittings on one suit and 3 on the other and neither one of them has the waistcoat perfect. I have actually just decided to take them as they are and I will visit my local tailor to finish up. I really shouldn't have to but I cannot face going back again to these guys to have a bunch of BS waffling excuses about master tailors being on holiday or how they are going to make a fuss and get it right. None of the excuse making is acceptable, nor is the duration and cost to still not have a great suit. In the future I will always go elsewhere. For the cost and timings I have put in to just going to the offices could've flown to Asia and got many suits made and come home with them.

I wouldn't want to have to actually try on clothes or find a new outfit - it's the place to buy stuff without having to queue for 30 minutes like at other shops. There is about twice as much space for ladieswear and a much better selection of homeware. The poor men now have to go upstairs for their clothes but it's bright, clean and well designed so they shouldn't mind too much. The shoe section has not got a lot of choice but what is avaliable is very catwalk style. Downstairs is Topman which is a little short of space but I suppose men dont need a lot of choice. There are some tasteful suits and shoes as well as cheap trainers. They usually have a sale section, greta for bargains!

Once I entered the store I was not only warmly greeted but it was genuine. In fact it wasn't one sales associate but all of them. That alone made me want to shop. I tried on several items and left with a pair of black python looking straight leg pants. Also wanted one of their signature vinyl bags but which one I loved them all! So I got a black with their signature floral print. Signature as ai tried a blouse and t shirt with the print but of course it looked better on the bag than on me. As I hurried to the register quickly in fear of missing my flight home. Note they check your boarding pass and you are not charged duties if you are traveling out of the country. I asked the associate a favor please go through my British Pounds and I will pay the difference on my credit card. Little did I know BP expire so my $5 and $10 need to be exchanged on my next trip to the UK. Would definitely come back next trip. Also not to self they sell bags on wheels so if next time if I want to buy out the store I can.

The staff members are friendly enough, although there often seem to be not enough of them. If you ask them questions about their clothing they generally know the answers - washing instructions, etc. They do tend to get quite a good selection of discount clothing about once every quarter - jeans at 9.99 and such.

I shop here mainly for my young son and I find it overpriced and the quality is not that much different from Next. For instance, whereas in Next you could buy a pair of good quality children's jeans for £7 you would not be able to do this at Gap. I bought some cord trousers for my son at Gap and they were pricey even at half price but they never quite fitted him properly. It seemed more of a design fault than anything else and I was not that impressed with the quality either. I only shop here when they have a sale on that way I feel I am getting more value for money.
