I came in for lunch on a cold, rainy day and PER was the perfect spot to help warm me up and fill my belly with delicious food. The local cheese selection is impressive if you're looking to take some cheese home with you and much of it is made right there! I opted to start with their local meats and cheese board that was a great value for the price and then a local dish called frico that was hot and gooey and exactly what the doctor ordered. Imagine a mixture of potato and cheese combined together and baked into a crispy masterpiece with a gooey center served over a bed of shredded radish. It may sound a bit weird and look a bit odd when it comes out but trust me it was one of the best things I've ever had in my mouth :) You simply can't go wrong with potatoes and cheese. All of it was of course washed down with a glass of local Prosecco (at only 3 euros a glass). I realized as I was on the way out that you can actually tour PER's cheese factory and even have a special cheese tasting lunch afterwards. If I'd know I would have definitely taken them up on it. Italian and German are the main languages. Fortunately they did have the videos translated to English... I am quite sure this company has THE happiest cows in the world! There is a huge variety of meats and cheeses available and a good selection of wine. It's more of a shop where customers can pick up items to take home, including something for dinner as fresh lasagna is made daily. There are approximately six tables outside and a couple of tables inside. The first night, we asked her to prepare a meat board and a cheese board as well as some olives. We ordered a bottle of Chianti Classico. Everything was presented beautifully and so delicious. We had five different types of meats: mortadella, prosciutto, veal, salumi, and roast beef. We also had a selection of five cheeses and I can't recall the names of all of them but they were all mouth watering. We had a selection of three types of olives. On our second night, we tried three different meats and cheeses, two types of olives, and their freshly made lasagna. Again, we were so happy with the food and the wine, a Valpolicello Ripasso Superior. Her service was excellent and the place was sparkling clean inside and out. We took two bottles of wine, a jar of artichoke hearts, and a jar of capers from her shop. What a delightful place. The two gentlemen behind the counter were friendly and informative and allowed us to try several items before we decided what to include on our meat and cheese boards. Due to the Christmas season and everyone being off from school and work, it was extremely busy. We were able to snag a table though so that was a plus as everyone was out and about in Verona. The pizza, tiramisu, panna cotta, soup, gnocchi, coffee were all top notch. I don't recommend the beef tartare though, it was stateless and I couldn't finish it, although I generally love raw meat.
