The…read morestaff was friendly and accommodating but coming from the US, the home of huge hotels this was very downsized and seemed old in comparison. But it quickly became one of my favorites. We had a room overlooking the street which I liked a lot. And breakfast was awesome, they go all out. Since it was my first trip there I had the full English breakfast and if you do that you really are good until evening. You could also modify the breakfast to suit your taste. Very clean hotel as well. ALSO this hotel is only about a 7 minute walk to the train station, very convenient. If I return to Exeter I WILL stay here.

I couldn't believe the wonderful location of my room in this hotel. The room was small but lovely, the bed was very comfortable and the tv had a decent number of channels for the short time I would be spending in the room. The location of the hotel itself is really good, near the Exeter St Davids station and not too far from the city centre. Breakfast was ok..I don't really like English breakfasts so I had to ask for certain things to be left off which they didn't always get right. The worst thing about my stay was the light coloured curtains. It was impossible to avoid the early morning sun pouring into the room and waking me up before 7am (fine on any other day, but not on holiday). The staff were friendly and If I come back to Exeter I might well stay here again.

Many large hotels pay lip-service to the mantra "organic,fresh,and local" but Raffles is the exception that lives up to the standard. My room was tastefully appointed with fancy antiques, as is the rest of the place. What sets this place apart is the attention to the tiny details, from the quality of the tea to the placement of the light switches. Every need has been anticipated, and that is truly rare. The prepared breakfast is amazing, again the attention to details sets it apart. On top of everything else, its relatively affordable. The only word of caution is that, with all the fragile stuff, its probably not the best for kids (at least really destructive kids).

The room has two very large windows, so there was tons of light, and it is very well furnished and quiet. The bathroom, which is important to me, was clean and handsome. I'd definitely stay here again. Oh, and the mattress, which is most important to my wife, was pretty good. On top of it all, there was a great English Breakfast in the Lawn Room downstairs. Ended up inside Flora Poste. Not sure what she is but the quotes and pictures suggested that you might find her in an unbearably tedious period drama (is there any other kind?). I suppose it was intended to be an upgrade! And the room was very very nice.I should say! The location is a good one, between the main station and the centre of town. The hotel is in a lovely old building too! The price is very good value. I guess the breakfast was a bit limited but that is generally not my priority.

I was met at the door by the very friendly owner. She made me feel very welcome. She arranged to have my bill finalised and a receipt left on my bed and a taxi ordered in the morning to take me to the station early in the morning. Great service. The room was basic but clean and comfortable.great value for the £35 I paid for a good night sleep . Sadly I did not get to try the breakfast as I had to leave at 6:45 and breakfast did not start till 8:30. A little late for a business user. Would I stay again ? Most defiantly I will .

Food was good, though fairly basic with limited choice, but with good sized portions and well cooked, service was first class with staff always helpful and friendly. The hotel a little run down with bedrooms in need of decoration and general refurbishment, but all the essentials in good order and clean, towels and bed linen brilliant white. Good functional TV provided plus tea making facilities with generous supplies. A well stocked bar with good entertainment was available, mostly bingo but never the less a happy atmosphere. One wall of the dining room covered with Thank- you cards and the guest book at reception full of favourable comment. If you are prepared to turn a blind eye to the scruffy bedroom décor, then this should prove an ideal location for a basic and cheap holiday break.

The lobby is beautiful, the staff couldn't be nicer and more accommodating, but the room itself is just....bad. It's old-it smells, everything is minimal and out of date. The customer service was helpful but not very fast. Overall I think it's somewhere which needs a bit of a spruce up and a more organisation. Their shower leaked and flooded the bathroom, they woke up to an infestation of Woodside and spiders in their bed and the breakfast was totally wrong and made them sick. We were able to get a small discount but nothing acceptable for the night they had. Awful experience for them
