When getting to the top of Holt hill, you will be amazed by the Boston skyline without occlusion. Compared to the breathtaking view at Holt hill, the one at the top of Boston hill slightly disappoints me. It is still an enjoyable walk surrounded by the view of the sunset, but the skyline is missing. You may not get too much out of the elephant rock. Again, overall it is a fantastic place for walking, jogging, and biking.

The view from the top of the dam is so quiet and serene and HIGH. It's not a long walkway, and one of the entrances has some construction going on right now, but since it's only open seasonally, it's worth a visit when you can make it. My kids love to watch the little minnows and birds and all the wildlife that lives in the river. Lots of herons, too. For being an old path, it's pretty well maintained and only has room to improve as the city continues to update all the river walks as planned over the years.

The historic walkway along the Northern Canal island is open when river conditions permit between May 15 and October 15. To find out the daily status if the walkway is open, call the park. It's closed when the water is too high. You can hear traffic and sort of see civilization between a few of the trees, but the foliage is so thick and pretty that it feels like you're in a forest . It's a nice place to go for an urban hike.

There is a body of drinking water that the town uses for its water but the trails are not super close to it. For a bit of one, you can walk near it and the views are pretty. We saw a cool bird near the water - but couldn't tell what it was. It seems like there are some swampy areas so be prepared for the bugs and don't forget to always check for ticks. They're really bad this year!

This free Trustees of Reservations site has an arboretum and trails through woodlands and marshes…read more The wetlands have great flora - including the best spread of water lilies I have ever seen - and evidence of fauna - a giant beaver lodge, trees nibbled by deer, and deer fences and gates as a result. I didn't use the restrooms but the overall park was clean. There is one section with some inclines but overall it's fairly easy hiking.
