Had a horrible experience with Ellies Travel Bug trying to plan for a trip to Japan. Our comedy of…read moretrip planning errors began with Ellie stopping me from booking airfare while the pricing was reasonable - telling me she had it covered and not to panic, dismissing my concerns that fares would rise after the country reopened for tourism. After I reached out 3 times pointing out the rapidly rising prices she told me to go ahead and just book on my own as she had nothing really to offer in way of better options - this delay cost me over 6k in increased costs and the direct route options that we had wanted. As a result of this error she then agreed to work with me to cut down the cost of the remaining trip to compensate for the overage on airfare. She did this not by cutting out private tours and transfers - which we had requested she cut - but by booking us in hotels that were almost an hour away from the things we wanted to do - causing further reliance on transfers and a huge inconvenience. She promised to give us line item costs so that we could determine what we could afford to keep vs not - but then later said she didn't have access to them - as she had outsourced the planning to another agency. She had absolutely no expertise in Japan travel and offered no insights along the way. After it became clear that Ellie was offering NO value to our trip planning and was actively making it MORE difficult for us to even plan it ourselves - we asked for a refund on fees. She refunded a small "token" portion of the fees we'd paid and somehow felt this was justified even though she had delivered no service of value and cost us both money and convenience. It's unfortunate that we went through this experience and my hope is that others considering Ellies service will look elsewhere if they want an agent with your best interest in mind.
