German pharmacies are quite different from those in the US. Most things that are on the shelves in the US are behind the counter in Germany. Aspirin, athlete's foot cream, vitamins, Breathe-Right strips, etc must all be requested in person versus just picking them up off the shelf.
That being said, this small pharmacy had three registers to service customers and the wait is never long. Prescriptions are filled via a system similar to the new vending machines that deliver your bottled beverage of choice. If one brings in a prescription in in the morning and they don't have it, they will have it that afternoon. That's excellent service in a small town! Every one of my needs has been met here.
