The church, constructed in 1837, has beautiful high arches inside and soaring stained glass Tiffany windows. The church is so beautiful, it is part of the biweekly Flint art walk downtown. The pipe organ bellows from it's massive pipes. When the lights are on and the pipes are illuminated you get an idea of the sheer size of the thing. They don't make them like that anymore! I met the young pastor who presided over the wedding was clear spoken and had a good sense of humor. The ladies who are members of the church and helped with the wedding were very nice and helpful. My only complaint would be that the A/C was not working very well and the bridal room (where all the girls get ready) was small and very, VERY WARM!

St. Paul's was built in its current location in 1872 and designed by notable Gothic church architect, Gordon Lloyd. The Gothic-style facade is made up from stones carried over sledges hauled over drawn ice along the the Flint River well over a century ago. St. Paul's initial structure was erected elsewhere in the the city in 1817. Architecturally-speaking, this particular church takes the cake. I think it not only rivals First Presbyterian, located just across the street, but rather surpasses it in terms of sheer beauty. From the gorgeous stonework and design of the intimate chapel to the stunning stained glass panels, arched doorways and intricate woodwork, this one is a work of art. Once you walk inside, you realize that it's much larger than it looks from outside appearances. It has a formal dining room that hosts receptions, a small lounge area, a kitchen and much more. In fact, for the past couple of years, the church has been participating in the city's monthly Art Walk (second Fridays of the month from 6-9 p.m.), along with Greater Flint Arts Council, Buckham Gallery and even First Presbyterian Church. They've actually hosted some pretty nice art exhibitions there as of late, usually paintings and photography, while music plays in the background. It's often a friendly crowd featuring most of the locals hobnobbing their way through Art Walk. We usually try to check out the monthly art walk receptions here as often as possible. There's never the high pressure pitch from the church members hosting events here to join their church or " or "come to worship services, get to know the Lord better," either, so that's nice. In other words, no one has ever has me if I've found Jesus or anything like that. I wish my husband and I had chosen this church over the one we did for our wedding when we got married. Sigh. I'm not very religious, in fact, I'm aetheist…read more However, my mother made me go to this church practically every Sunday when I was growing up, and architecturally it is a beautiful place. So beautiful, in fact, that the statue of the archangel outside often gets its sword stolen from his hands! St. Michael's is over 160 years old and is rich with history. The school is now the School of Choice for the Flint Board of Education. I remember having to go to "Sunday School" every Sunday for too many years of my life. Though I do not like going to church, I feel that the other parishoners of this church really care about it. Depending on the pastor, the only problems I've ever heard about are pastors who do not support marriages where someone who isn't Catholic is involved.

This is a bible preaching church that does it with love and hope. Nothing is sugar coated but God's love is clear in the preaching and in the members. They also have a teens program. They have services on Sunday's at: Sunday school at 10am, church service at 11am and night church at 6pm. Then on Wednesday nights at 7pm. Btw- The people who are with the kids have to have background checks done.

Today, although the building has evolved some, it hasn't changed much from the small, quaint sanctuary that I recall from my childhood. Even though the group of family members that have decide to [return and] call this church home has changed, it still feels the same. It feels like home.
