As well in the summer time there are sprinklers that turn on so that the kids can cool down from the Summer heat. From slides to swing to baby swings to monkey bars to a field that you can enjoy playing soccer or just run wild. Tennis courts are there as well and are normally busy in the summer months. Basket ball nets are located by the schools as well. See you there in the Summer trust me the kids will love you for it.

However, my 3.5 years old has tons of fun on it too. I like the recycled tire flooring they use. Soft and shock absorbent for little feet and knees. It's located far away enough from the busy streets surrounding it so I don't have to worry about my kids running into traffic. My two "gripes": A. lack of seating. I think this was a design flaw or oversight. It does have a retaining wall that naturally calls people to sit. However, if you understand the way the play structure is designed, the slides come out the opposite side of where the retaining wall is. As a mom, I need to see, and my kids want me to see them slide down and cheer. I can't do that while sitting on the retaining wall. Bummer. Wish they could add a bench or two on the side where the slides are facing. B. the gravel plot right in front of it. It looks like it's under some kind of construction, at least I hope so. Tempting kids to throw rocks or wipe out on it while running around. Other than these two minor details, it's a good playground. I like the location too. When the kids get hungry and it's lunch time, we often go to Superstore and grab a bite.

(Sample Conversation: "Mommy, she's getting in another one! Why does that lady have so many friends with cars? Where are they going!?") These conversations actually happened. Ask my mother. These days Cornwallis Square is not a hot spot for sad men, but rather a really nice green space in the downtown of Halifax. This is a great spot to go for a picnic when the weather gets warmer and offers enough space to toss a ball around all year round. The square features a really nice statue of Edward Cornwallis (Read a history book) as well as some odd modern art pieces. There is a small playground for children and benches for those just looking to read a book or have some lunch without the risk of grass stains. Overall I would say this is a nice little park to check out all year round, but especially on a sunny day in the summer. If you happen to see a lady getting in and out of a lot of cars, take the advice my mother gave me and do not approach.

You can bike there from Downtown Dartmouth in about 15 minutes either going down Waverly Road or entering just past Mic Mac Mall. This is my usual route, but it is also very accessible by car with lots of parking at both main entrances. When you get there you are greeted by well-maintained trails, lovely lakes and paths that take you off into the woods and along the old Shubie Canal system. There are lots of animals in the park and they are very tame and well fed. They might just follow you around a bit which can be a bit strange but just go with it. There is also a great off-lease dog park that is very popular, maybe a bit too popular at times but if you have a dog that likes to go off lease you will enjoy it. The best part of this park is that it is big enough that even though it can get busy it is very easy to vanish into the wood and explore.

There is lots of open spaces and grass perfect for picnics The highlight would probably be the splash pad that is open from end of June until Labour day- bring the swim suits! It is great place to take kids in Summer as there are several trees that you can spread your blanket under for shade. There is also a large sandbox that has a roof over it. There are a bunch of sand toys that are just left there so there is always something to play with if you don't bring any from home. On top of that there are three playgrounds that are suitable for kids from 2 years to about 10. The only thing that would improve it is if there were bathrooms. If you have kids, check this place out!

It is located in the basement of the Halifax Vineyard Church and can be kind of hard to find, but don't let that put you off. The entrance to the indoor playground is at the back of the church. Look for signs for the Avoda Cafe which is on the side facing Sackville drive. There is no street signage for the Playground. Just a heads up that it is only open limited hours: Wednesdays and Thursdays 9-11am. The cost is a bargain at $2 a child! The Vineyard Church also rents the space for birthdays. Once you enter there at lots of coat hooks and cubbies for boots. There are also tables and chairs for kids and parents where you can eat your own snacks. As a budget conscious and try-to-be health conscious, parent I always like to bring my own snacks. Better than buying the sugary treats you are forced to at some play places (Skip Hop I am looking at you). The play area is an open space that has a track for kids to race around on peddle cars and several play houses for burning off at all winter excess energy. The highlights for my little guy is a huge plastic RV that kids can pretend to hit the road in and large sit-on plane which can take their imaginations to the clouds. For quiet play, there is also a lego section, toy kitchens, play dough and colouring area, a train table, and cute stuffed animal hospital. The place is very clean and there are always staff making sure things are put away and picking up toys that could cause a trip. The only drawbacks are the limited times it is open and that they keep the temperature pretty low in the room. With the bare (in places) concrete floor that can make it really chilly. I think it is run by volunteer members of the church so I can understand why they can't afford 9-5 hours but it be nice to see a few more mornings added. I'd give it a 4.5 stars if I could.

I was advised if my 10 year old was to remain in the building, that I would have to PAY THE FULL PRICE for him to be there. I assured the staff that he had no interest in playing, and that he was going to play video games on his tablet. They told me without paying for the 10 year old to sit on a chair, we would not be allowed in. Absolutelt ridiculous and not accommodating what so ever.

This place is part theme park/part play place. I spent three hours with the kids and I still had to pull them out at the end when the place was closing and there were things we ran out of time to try. There is so much to do: slides, places to climb, crawl. jump, shoot each other with soft foam balls (?) basically all the activities kids love to do in the cold weather when it is hard to find a place for them. Parents of toddlers note: there is a separate area for toddlers so they don't get bowled over by bigger kids. For the parents, there is Wifi and about a dozen comfy chairs at the front where parents can watch over the play structure. Plus a cafe with hot drinks and foods tailored for the kiddos. I gave them five stars-- my first experience was that positive-- but a few things stuck out to me: the play structure is huge and it can be easy to lose sight of your kids. It would be helpful if they had video cameras set up and screen set up in the parent section so it was easier to keep an eye on your kids. Also, I get that having the monopoly on food is a money maker but it would be nice to allow people to bring their own; particularly since there didn't seem to be any gluten free items on the menu. I was also surprised that the air guns in the ball area are as loud as they are. I would be a bit wary of effects on hearing over long term use. And a finally, big one for me is that they need some kind of membership pricing options asap. They just opened and are obviously working out the kinks. And at $12.99 for 5+ years olds and $9.99 for toddlers the prices are higher, than any of the existing play places, but this place has it all and you could easily spend they day there and not get bored. Sure, you've got the more known Lake Banook and Mic Mac, but even the 'burbs are stacked with prime outdoor action that's well-maintained, picturesque, and perfect for getting away from the terrifying Stepford drivers. Cranberry Lake is a calm, motor-free waterbed bridging Dartmouth and Cole Harbour. The paved path runs along the water, through the well-groomed trees making it completely accessible for just about anyone. Plus no motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail. Despite that one time I was nearly run over by an idiot on a dirtbike, the rule seems to be pretty well adhered to. It's a pretty quick walk if you jump off the trail at Gregory Drive and circle back on Wildwood, but it can be much longer if you keep following the trails as they continue pretty far in between Flying Cloud Drive (baaahahahaha care bears) and Circassion Drive. Frankly if you know your way around, you can customize your route to be anything from fifteen minutes to several hours! One gripe? It's not an off-leash park. That's fine and makes a tremendous amount of sense since you're never far from civilization and the cars that come with it. But dog owners - follow the rules, would ya? First of all, it's not worth the stress of losing your pooch in a maze of houses and streets that all look the same. Second, in a split second your dog could end up out in the middle of the road. Third, the rest of us have ours on leash...just do the same. C'mon...
