It was our first time dining here last night (7/11) and what a gem of a restaurant! Chris was our server and let us know the specials of the day. He described everything with such care that it was hard not to order everything! I'd highly recommend a reservation as there was not an empty table the entire two hours we were there. The restaurant is on the smaller side so it can get quite loud but our table had great conversations and a overall lovely time. Appetizer: We ordered the konpachi hush puppies (apologies, they had a nicer name but this is how they were described to us) and they were delicious! I'm not a lover of fish, but these were so flavorful and the sauce paired perfectly with it. Drinks: I had the meringue di cedri to drink and it was akin to a lemon drop (10/10) it was sippable and lasted my whole meal. Husband had the Hana Koa Rice Breaker, which is one of his favorites as its smooth and pairs well with honestly anything. Entree: You will be missing out if you don't get the lemon risotto. I ordered it with the prosciutto and it may be one of the best meals I've had in Hawaii. The zucchini is done two ways in it: diced to be mixed in with the risotto and thinly sliced and grilled on top of the risotto. The panko crumbs on top really solidified the plate for me as top tier as risotto can get to be boring to eat after a few bites as they can lack texture, but not this risotto! Every bite was a journey and it was a very filling meal. My husband ordered the Korean steak and said it was better than some of the local steakhouses we had gone to. Our friend ordered the spaghetti carbonara and enjoyed it as well. Dessert: We were encouraged to try the Rocky Road ice cream and decided it was a must have when you visit. It was creamy, rich and delectable. We also opted to try the dessert special of the evening which was a Lilikoi cheesecake with a chocolate mousse. The cheesecake had a sour tang to it and the chocolate mousse partner with it to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet. The GOUGERES with smoked ahi spread were otherworldly delicious! Tender, moist parmesan cheese puffs with an egg custardy core. Perfectly paired with the smoked ahi dip. France meets Italy - meets Hawaii. I'm still dreaming of this. The burger features a thick, juicy, 8-ounce grass-fed patty made from a custom house-selected blend of short rib, chuck roast, and brisket. Get it with the crispy potatoes. You will thank me. Risotto on point. Luxuriously rich, creamy texture. The rice retains a slight al dente bite in the center, giving it structure rather than letting it become mushy. Prosciutto adds a perfect salty, savory crunch to break up the rich risotto. The only misstep was the fries served with the quinoa burger. Fete in Hawaii has such an amazing presentation and the food is beautifully prepared. Unfortunately, our experience fell a little short. It took over 15 minutes just to get water and our cocktails, and our main dishes arrived before our appetizer. The appetizer didn't come out until the end of the meal, which was disappointing. The restaurant is quite small, and the tables are very close together, so it didn't feel as comfortable or relaxing as I had hoped. I think I'll stick to enjoying Fete for lunch rather than dinner in the future. There's definitely potential, but the timing and overall dining experience could use some improvement. read more

I absolutely love the pasta here. If you're someone who believes there's no such thing as too much sauce, this place will make you very happy. They're incredibly generous with their sauces, and the pasta is always cooked perfectly. For appetizers, don't skip the Fete Spread. The spreads are all delicious and fun to try, and the warm, soft bread that comes with them makes it even better. The Carbonara is my favorite dish. It's rich, cheesy, creamy, and packed with flavor. If you prefer a tomato-based sauce, the Pork Ragù is another excellent choice and just as satisfying. Don't skip dessert. The olive oil cake is a must-order. It's simple in the best way, with a moist, flavorful interior and a perfectly crunchy crust that makes every bite delicious. This is a very popular restaurant, so I highly recommend making a reservation. I came here 2 weeks in a row so this is the review for both times. The first time I came by I went with my coworkers for my graduation lunch. They were very busy but thankfully we had a reservation. We started with the Fete Spread as the appetizer, the spreads are delicious, I like the green one the most, its nutty and slightly earthy The red one is tomatoey n sharper and the white one is creamy and sweet. This app also comes with refillable toast, which we definitely made sure to get another serving of. Then I was going to get the Korean steak as my entrée, however my coworker got it and I wanted to try something different and new so I went with the beef pot pie per the waitress' recommendation. However, I really wasn't that good in my opinion. I felt like the bourbon in the pie filling made it taste off and unappealing to me. Then I got dessert because why not. We got a lilikoi cheesecake from the Millie Fete bakery. I did not like the cheesecake very much as well. The chocolate mousse on top was good, thw cheesecake itself was good as well. However, the crust also had alcohol infused in it, which made it taste off and bitter to me. I even asked my coworkers to taste it and they agreed. We also got a scoop of kulolo ice cream. I didn't realize it was going to ALSO be infused in alc, I think it was rum, so again, the ice cream tasted slightly off to me. Kulolo is already perfect why mess with it... Also my OTHER frustration was that it took an OBSCENE amount of time for the cheesecake and ice cream. Logically, the cheesecake would just need to be plated and the ice cream just scooped. However it took 15-20 minutes for us to get the dessert which is ridiculous in my opinion. THE SECOND TIME I came, it was a slightly better experience. We had the spread and toast appetizer like previously and it was good again. WE also got the quinoa cakes and it was super flavorful and crunchy on the outside. I got the Korean steak this time around because I must try it. It was good, the scallion rice was good, flavorful. The steak was okay, it tasted good but I think it was a bad cut/quality of steak (they said it was ribeye?), but there were a lot of the silverskin/gristle (connective issue that can't be bitten through). Made the overall steak experience very unpleasant. I'm not sure HOW much I'd want to revisit as they have some pretty good dishes but some others are a little worse quality. Wow is this place amazing. I came here for a birthday dinner and couldn't be happier with the choice. The service was great and there was a great selection of cocktails and wine. I appreciated that all the food was local, and the served shared lovely anecdotes about the farmers they work with. We started with gougeres and ahi dip - hot, crispy, and savory. An excellent start to the meal. Next the salad, basil caesar. I don't think i can have caesar any other way now. For mains we got the special lasagna, pork, and side of potatoes. The lasagna was a bit of a cheese explosion but who can be mad at that. The flavor of the pork was truly unmatched - the meat inside had a buttery nutty flavor and fantastic marbling that you just could not find from a supermarket chop. I recently visited Fête for a birthday dinner with friends and had a great experience overall. The restaurant has a very intimate atmosphere, though the dining room is quite small and tables can feel a bit crowded. It was also a little chilly inside during our visit. That said, the service was excellent. Our waitress was incredibly helpful and guided us through the cocktail menu, helping us choose drinks that suited our tastes. We tried the Right as Rain, Spicy Kitty, and Meringue di Cedro cocktails, and all three were delicious. My favorite drink was Right as Rain. It had a tart plum flavor with bright citrus notes and definitely wasn't shy. If you enjoy cocktails that are both fruity and strong, this is an excellent choice and something I would absolutely order again. For appetizers, we ordered the Fête Spreads. The Persian eggplant and mac-nut tapenade were the clear favorites at our table. The ricotta was good, but it didn't stand out as much as the other spreads. For my entrée, I ordered the Sweet Land Farm Salad with a side of chicken. The salad was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The chicken was an additional $7, but I felt the protein was necessary to make the dish more filling. I appreciated that there was an alternate protein option available, especially since the default protein option wasn't something I could eat. My friends ordered the Korean Fried Chicken sandwich and the pasta special with beef, and everyone was very happy with their meals. Portions were okay, and everything we tried was well prepared. I had heard a lot about Fête before visiting, so I was excited to finally try it. The cocktails were excellent, the service was attentive, and it made for a nice birthday dinner with friends. While I enjoyed the food, I was a little surprised by how limited the menu felt, and some of the dishes didn't stand out as much as I expected . This is restaurant you have to try at least once. After that you'll find yourself coming back for a second, third, fourth... The first time we finally made it in we enjoyed it so much that we ended up coming back again within the same week! (And that's crazy because we live all the way in Waianae!) On our first visit we got the 3 spreads that come with their bread, the steak tartare, the ciopinno, and the pork ragu. Everything was so delicious, I'd highly recommend trying the 3 spreads and the Pork Ragu! My boyfriend also grew up eating ciopinno and he said this one brought him straight back home. There was so much on the menu that caught our eye but especially the Korean fried chicken sandwich. So we came back for lunch and got that and those 3 spreads again. That's probably one of the best chicken sandwiches you'll have. The sauce is sweet and a little spicy but not messy! The chicken is so perfectly crispy. If you're thinking of getting it, do it. The restaurant is nice and cool inside and their outside seating is super cute. I've probably been back 2-3 more times since already and will be back too many more! read more

I recently went to fete for my birthday dinner. Friends and coworkers of mine have been raving about it for months so I figured it was time to try it. First was parking. Parking in town can be tough if you want street parking so rather than stress I just parked across the street in a public garage. Walking up to fete we didn't even realize we had arrived. There was no signage out front but there was a huge hanging F above the front door. Unfortunately it was windy when I went so it was blowing around and I missed it. For those who also have boy eyes like me, it's on the corner of Hotel and Nuuanu right next to Pizza Mamo. There was indoor and outdoor seating as well as bar seating. I had made a reservation for indoor and we were seated immediately. Tables are on the small side so prepare for crowding. Our waiter was extremely friendly and provided us with suggestions as well as the daily specials. I ordered the special (prosciutto wrapped mahi mahi) and my companions ordered the spaghetti carbonara and the kanpachi for the mains. We also got the quinoa cakes and a baked oyster special for our starters. Prosciutto Mahi Mahi was so delicious. I also tried a little of the other dishes and loved the kanpachi. The carbonara was soooo black peppery I did not enjoy it. Quinoa cakes were good, nothing phenomenal. The baked oyster was a pleasant surprise as I usually only like raw oysters but they were seasoned well and not overdone. The carbonara was just extremely cheesy and thick, but did not have much flavor. The only thing that gave it flavor was the pancetta. It tasted better on the second day after I microwaved it surprisingly. My friend got the local pork ragu and that was much better. The olive oil cake was interesting. The top with the caramel was very bitter and I was surprised. The cake itself was good though. We also ordered the rocky road icecream because they said it won an award (?) and that was really good. First time here and upon the first taste of the bread and the appetizers I was impressed with the flavors of the dip that were on the side in addition with the bread. I sampled the Korean Chicken Burger? I heard it was their top item so I figured I'd just try it. It was very sweet and crispy, but I'm not sure how it constitutes as anything that would make me say "wow." I sampled my friend's fish dish and this was delicious and I think I liked it better than what I got. I wish that the side that they used for the carbs wasn't potatoes and maybe a rice option? They brought some sort of fried fish ball that had a pretty good spicy tartar sauce that everyone on our table was fighting over. Overall, I think the food wasn't something I would come back for, but the service was astounding - especially when someone on our table did not like the drink they ordered - our waitress offered to take it back and serve her another drink that she hopefully liked. Ambiance is very posh and dim - yet casual at the same time. We came at a lunch hour so not too fancy, I can imagine people getting dressed up fancy to go here at night though. read more

Came here for a birthday lunch on Saturday at 12pm. The restaurant was full inside, glad we had a booking for inside because the seating outside is right on the street and would not have been enjoyable. Decor and interior was bright and trendy. The seating is very, very close together. The music is also pretty loud so just be aware if you're looking for somewhere more intimate and quiet. Our server was Summer who was a delight. Very attentive and sweet. We got the fete spreads for starter and the portions of spread were large. We had to order another round of toast to finish it (additional $2). Unfortunately the first batch of toast was slightly burnt but not inedible. For mains I got the Korean bavette and my husband got the Korean fried chicken sandwich. We got the crispy potatoes too. The fried chicken sandwich was great, really flavorful and juicy. He said it was a bit messy to eat but still great. My bavette was ok. Cooked great, medium rare as ordered but as it is a cheaper cut of meat, it was still quite chewy. I wouldn't say it was worth $43. My favourite part of the meal was the crispy fried rice. A scoop of rocky road ice cream for dessert was the perfect amount to end our meal. Very chocolatey which is fine by us. We had the pineapple ice tea which I wouldn't bother ordering. Hardly any flavor. It was an enjoyable lunch but will most likely not be back considering we are spoilt for choice for restaurants in Hawaii. First time in Hawaii but we had heard about Fete all the way back in Texas! We decided to stop in for an early dinner as we tried to adjust to the new time zone and we are so glad we did! We were greeted right away and seated by our very friendly server. The restaurant is very cute and inviting and larger than it initially appears as you enter. We started with the special of the day which was a delicious salad with Greens, Beets, Crisp Shallots, and Avocado. It was light and absolutely delicious. We then had the Smoked Ono Club which was super tasty and the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich. For the Korean Chicken the taste was absolutely on point, but I would have liked just a bit less sauce so the bun could have better held together. Located in Chinatown on a corner by The Daley, Fete is a nice spot with red umbrellas for some outdoor seating. We checked in outside at a table with a staff member. The inside is not super large but there are a decent number of tables and bar seating. The people working were sweet and timely. We sat inside. There were a good amount of flies in the restaurant, which may have just been because there have been a lot of flies lately. We decided to get the gouda cheese spread with the bread, which was good. The bread was nice and crispy, and the jam-tasting spread was sweet. I got the beet salad with crispy chicken. The salad was yummy, with a dressing that was a good acidic/salty flavor to juxtapose the beets. There was a good amount of salad and chicken as well. The chicken was also quite good. Came here for my birthday a few months ago. It was lovely and definitely reminded me of some of my favorite spots in NYC. We sat at the bar and our lovely bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. They gave us some complimentary champagne for my birthday too. We started with the quinoa cakes, which were delightful but I think the romesco had a bit of a kick we weren't prepared for. I enjoyed it but it was a bit much for my less spice tolerant friend. I ordered the squash risotto. It was luxurious, rich, and creamy. It did not taste much of squash however. The added mushrooms dominated the flavors, but I'm not complaining. I love a mushroom risotto. My friend had the French onion grilled cheese and loved the sandwich. The tomato compote again was a bit too spicy for my friend to enjoy. We wished more of the ingredients would be listed so we can make some better choices for their spice sensitive palate. I had the tea and tamarama cocktails. The tea was a bit too sweet for my taste but still enjoyable. The tamarama was definitely more compatible with my palate and I loved it. Overall, we had a great time, the service was great and I enjoyed all the food immensely. I came to Fête in Chinatown for a friend's birthday, and it completely exceeded my expectations! I wasn't the one doing most of the ordering for the appetizers, so we ended up trying a few dishes I normally wouldn't have chosen myself, but I am so glad we did! The ulu appetizer was to die for. The flavors were incredible and practically melted in your mouth. We also had the carrot appetizer with hummus, which was another favorite of mine, along with the Sweet Land Farm salad to share. For my main, I ordered the Korean steak, which was unique and really good, but I have to admit the appetizers were the standout dishes of the meal. To finish, I had their famous rocky road ice cream. We were one of the first groups there when they opened for dinner on a Sunday at 4:00 PM, but the restaurant filled up quickly, which says a lot. The staff was wonderful, and the ambiance made the experience even better. I especially appreciated the small details from our server, like giving us handbag holders for our purses, wiping the table and replacing our silverware after each meal. Chinatown is not usually an area I enjoy going to because it can be a bit inconvenient for me and scary at night, but I would gladly come back for Fête. Y'all, Fete is legit. Just go. That's the review. So I took a date here before the theater based on the reviews from yelp, I knew I was going to be in for a treat. Making reservations on opentable is ezpz. We had tickets for 730, so we had an early dinner on a saturday at 5pm. Not busy when we arrived but by 6pm, it was packed. So make the reservation. I ordered the carbonara which was creamy and delicious. I'm not italian so i don't know how authentic it was but it was GOOD. My date ordered a salad with Korean Fried Chicken and beets. I don't know anything about beats but the KFC was FANTASTIC. Sugary deliciousness. We had a slice of olive oil cake with a spoon of rocky road to go with it. OMG. The olive oil cake is so delicious. It's almost like a pound cake but i guess made with olive oil so it also had this nice crust to it. But I would come back every single day for the rocky road ice cream. It was just rocky road but it was really good. Prices were average for honolulu. And service was good, not great. I guess the inside is pretty spacious in terms of tables but they pack you in like sardines so you can't help but be in your neighbors conversation. And it's a bit loud. So maybe not the ideal first date unless you go at an off hour where it's less crowded. Or maybe the bar seating would also work. 10/10 would 100% recommend to anyone. read more

If you're looking for a spot to celebrate or just want really good food, this is definitely a place to check out. We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and the food was phenomenal. I'll be honest--the service wasn't the best. We had a reservation for 8 and our table wasn't ready when we got there. They ended up squeezing us into a corner table, which kind of made it feel like maybe our table had been given away. Not the best start, but once the food came out, it honestly made up for it. We tried quite a bit on the menu and everything was fresh, clearly made to order, and full of flavor. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and locally sourced. My husband got the bacon-wrapped mahi special and I got the scallops. Both were cooked perfectly--tender, soft, and juicy. Neither dish was chewy at all, which can definitely happen with scallops or mahi if they're overcooked. The cocktails were also really good. I had an amaretto sour and it was made the right way with egg white, which I love. It was easily one of the best I've had. So while the service could use a little work, the food was a solid 10/10 and I'd absolutely come back for that alone. ENJOY! read more

Ate at Fete for the first time for lunch. We were seated outside under the umbrella's which was cozy and cool from the soft breeze. Service was great. Water was filled regularly and staff kept checking if everything was okay. Love it when the source of our dishes and how they were made explained. What a cute place, reminded us of little bistros in Paris. Customer service was spectacular and everyone was so friendly. We got off the plane, were starving and this place caught my eye on Yelp. So glad we stoped because it was amazingly delicious! My 16 yo son had the Ban Mai (so?) special of the day and said it was one of the best meals he has ever had in his life. I took a bite and absolutely agree. All 5 of us had something different and it was all devoured, everyone's plate was empty. Only negative was we asked for honey in our iced lattes (honey latte) and they brought us the honey on the side of an iced latte. Womp womp. Another wonderful dinner at Fete. Perfect place to eat at before shows at Hawaii Theater. Highly recommend making reservations on Open Table because its popular. They have a full bar with great wine and cocktails. The service is wonderful and our server was very efficient and reviewed the house specials for the day. We ordered the sweet land farm tomme cheese which comes with toasted bread, shaved aged gouda cheese and a delicious homemade jam spread a perfect starter. I had the kotean fried chicken sandwich which was delicious and we also had the pork ragu rigatoni which is also one of my faves, large portion savory and delicious. We had their coconut cake for dessert which was very tasty but a little dense. Wonderful dinner and service, one of my favorites downtown. We went to Fete last night before the Hawaii Symphony show. Is was very crowded and that may be the reason that the one dish wasn't quite up to their usual very high standards. The risotto was quite tasty. The dessert was fabulous. Our server did an excellent job taking care of so many customers all there at the same time. Unfortunately the lamb chops were overcooked and almost a beef jerky dried out texture. That's was too bad because I love lamb chops. I spoke with our server and she alerted the cooks that they could have finished off the lamb about 10-15 minutes earlier. The flavor was fantastic as evident in the accompanying vegetables which were awesome. All in all, this one bad experience will not stop us from coming back again. Too much sauce and the bread was soggy quick - Chicken Liver Mousse - SOLID no complaints here! My husband and I went here today for his belated birthday sorbet and drinks and the atmosphere was excellent, our server Ryan was all smiles and happiness!! Fete in HNL did not disappoint! Inside it looks like a nice French inspired cafe with beautiful artwork. Service was incredible - staff knew exactly what they were recommending. I got the Korean style steak and Fete classic salad. Both were delicious! I look forward to coming back and trying other dishes. read more

Truly one of my all-time favorite restaurants in Honolulu. There's a reason this place is a James Beard Award winner! We came here to celebrate my friend's birthday and every single dish reminded me why Fête never misses. We started with sparkling wine that was crisp, bubbly, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet - literal perfection. Then came the beef tartare, which I kid you not is the best beef tartare I've had on island to date. Nothing has topped it! The texture is smooth (not chunky), the flavors are perfectly blended, and the portion is great for just yourself or to share. It's usually served with French bread, but since I can't have it, they brought cucumbers instead and honestly? Still hit so hard. The Fête salad was fresh, light, and ideal for sharing. They are also extremely allergy-friendly and conscious, which makes the experience even better. Now... the Coconut Kaua'i Prawns. WOW. Truly the star of the show. Lightly crispy, perfectly cooked, generous portion, and the flavor is INSANE. This is a non-negotiable order. You need to try this dish! Other hits at the table: - Lup Cheong fried rice (comforting and flavorful) - Korean fried chicken (my friend said it was incredible) - Crispy potatoes (elevated, perfectly cooked, and honestly delightful) - Chez Burger (confirmed delicious by my friend) To top it all off, they surprised us with Dorie Greenspan's chocolate cake for my friend's birthday, and it disappeared fast! 3.5 stars. I've heard lots of people raving about fete so I had high expectations, but I thought everything was a little too pricey for what it was and not that impressive. We came the day after Xmas and they were out of a lot of things, which is totally understandable because markets were closed and the kitchen had the day off, but still limited our options. We were also the first people in the restaurant (had an 11am reservation) and were sat at a slightly strange table right next to the door. We shared the spreads, which were good but not mind blowing, hamachi fritters, and the carrots which were a Christmas special. The carrots were my favorite thing, but still not life changing. I had the smoked Ono club, which was fine but also not incredible and not that different from something I could make at home. One person in our party had the quinoa burger and said it was especially dry and not very flavorful. For desserts, we got three scoops of rocky road to share, as well as the chocolate rum raisin cake. The rocky road ice cream was definitely the hit of the meal. I personally liked the kulolo ice cream that came with the cake better - it had a delicious strong taro flavor, but I'm also not a huge chocolate ice cream fan and the rest of my party preferred the rocky road. Overall, I'm not really sure that I'd return here. I wasn't that impressed by their sandwiches and thought the true entrees seemed quite pricey, and Chinatown has lots of other good restaurants that I like better. read more

This place is consistently disappointing. While the service here is swift and friendly, the food never fails to disappoint. It either has way too much salt or is lacking any flavor, it never comes out good. Sitting elbow to elbow with neighboring tables is also a big turn off. In short, it's incredibly cramped, overpriced and the food quality is below mediocre. There are definitely better places in Chinatown. read more
