Obsessive Upholstery

Obsessive Upholstery

contacted Obessive upholstery(Aaron) to recover a chair. My first clue to run was his timeline. He…read moresaid he could do it in about a week and it would be $350. Every other shop told me around 12 weeks and priced $300-350. I didn't get back to him right away and received an email stating "I just want to let you know, id be happy to work with you on the price if its a little too much for this project. Really slow on finding work here and could use the work." Second clue to run. My response was price not my issue but finding fabric I liked was. A couple days later I let obsessive upholstery know I found fabric and was ready to proceed. Third clue, we took the chair to his "shop" which was a dark room at an older house that smelled of smoke, marijuana, incense or something. I told my husband that chair is going to have to be put in garage to air out once we get it back. They delivered it and it went straight to garage because it did smell like his house. I though he did a great job until we got it in the house and really looked at it. The fabric was stretched unevenly, too tight and not straight with lumps in it. He also put some kind of stain on wood part that he was not asked to do and should not have done. Stain is dark, uneven and poorly done. My fault for not inspecting it thoroughly before I paid him the balance due and gave him a second project. Make a bench cushion. I gave him the existing cushion and fabric. As we were standing in my living room and I handed him the cushion. I state there is nothing wrong with this cover that I wanted it but I just needed to change the color. He said it was in great shape. My husband asked him if he would put the zipper and piping on it. He said "it will be exactly the same as you gave it to me". I said ok and I'll have a spare cover then, great. Let's go ahead and do this. I then gave him $100 cash as he stated that was his rate. When I went back to pickup cushion he did not have the old cover. He cut it to pieces to use as a pattern. The zipper was broken. It did not fit bench. It was uneven and it smelled. If that was not enough here is a real kicker. I paid half upfront and remaining balance when chair completed. While my husband and Aaron were in the garage he sent me final invoice. I went in the house to get phone to pay. I paid and immediately conversation went to bench cushion so didn't think anything about payment just made. After he left I checked to make sure everything went through for payment and that I got a receipt. I was shocked that I was charged $350 since I already paid $175 and only owed remaining $175. I was charged a total $525. I immediately emailed to question. Was told that I tipped him $175. That he spent it already and he didn't think anything about it because he gets way bigger tips than that. Told me he got a $1000, yes thousand dollar tip on a $400 job. Sorry, I'm not that rich and I saved to get this chair redone because it had sentimental value to me. I should have known better to check the receipt before he left. My error. I feel taken by this company not only for overcharging me but for the poor workmanship. His email to me. "No I will not be refunding your tip which I was only doing out of the kindness of my heart. Ive recieved a $1000 tip on a $400 order before so no i didn't bat an eye at your $175. Have a blessed evening with your family. " Update: He refunded me $25. So be willing to tip this company 50 percent of total bill and realize it's a small tip compared to what he usually gets and you will get average workmanship.

The work was completed with in a few days and was very professional done…read more They also arranged the delivery back to my house.
