The library has a great community feel. It makes me wish I lived in South Deerfield! There is also a children's library downstairs, which is just as big as the main section upstairs. The bathroom is also down there, so I was able to check it out. The children's librarian is super friendly, and the space is very cozy and welcoming.

Beautiful building as well. Weird side note, I just to have a reoccurring dream as a kid where the back stacks were about twice as high and went back two to three times as far. And there was a staircase that went along the back wall into a basement where there was even more books stacked. Well what happens when they redo the library? There is a staircase along the back wall that goes into the basement where there is another room of books on the stacks. How creepy is that?

No, it's not the quaint old hundred year old, yellow building that everyone in Greenfield has loved for generations. You know what that means? It means it is energy efficient. It also means it's quiet. They also means it has great light. I can't really speak to the collection because I do most of my library borrowing online but what makes libraries really important these days is an entire room for children & an entire room for teens. And that means there a workplaces and tables and books for everybody else other places that are quiet and available. There is an entire hallway of nice spacious, clean all gender, bathrooms. Thank you. And a big parking lot. Not that e we are supposed to drive anymore, but you know a lot of us need to get here.

Comically inefficient. A person named Matthew, either a volunteer or employee, repeatedly calls…read moreand e-mails me about an issue that was resolved a month ago. Apparently Matthew listens to a month-old voicemail message day after day, and falsely believes it is a new voicemail message each day. He then responds to the "new" voicemail message by contacting me to tell me the same thing he's told me multiple times and that has been resolved. It's like a "Groundhog Day" time loop which would be comical if it wasn't a complete waste of time and money. Taxpayers pay for the library. I contacted the director, Sharon Sharry, who didn't address the issue but rather relied on Matthew's delusions in defending him and her inefficient library.

While historic, the building is cramped due to population growth over the past century, and the plexiglass barriers also make it feel closed in. There is ample free parking at the strip mall across the street. The buttons for the crosswalks are out of order, but cars stopped for me. You can also park in front of the building if you don't mind that it's on street.

This is a HIGH building, and we came just to see the DuBois center. It is not as interactive as I suspect it will be one day under the guidance of assistant director Adam Holmes. He was kind enough to talk to us for a few minutes about DuBois, and I've learned his original homestead was in Great Barrington. I look forward to coming back, and hopefully Mr. DuBois will be given the expansive display he deserves.

It's an incredible feat, and quite awesome too. There's also a basement, and a coffee area. It's also open 24/7. From a personal standpoint, I basically lived here in the Spring of 2006, as my first graduate school experience was winding down. So I have that too.
