There is usually someone who comes every so often to spray the area for bugs. There are grills outside on the grassy areas and a pool here too. There are one, two and three bedroom apartments here. In addition to that, this place is super quiet. The windows are pretty thick and sound proof. I would recommend Charterwoods Apartments.

The office/den in our apartment was whatever temperature it was outside. The poor insulation resulted in a $360 electric bill one month in winter (it's electric heat). The gym is adequate but they do a poor job of keeping it clean and restocking the cleaning solution in the spray bottles used to wipe off equipment when you're done using it. There isn't enough parking at times and I have sometimes had to park on the opposite side of the complex from where I actually live. The rent is also slightly high, which I was fine with since I had hoped it would weed out noisy unemployeed college students (Wright State University is close by) but that was not the case. We had to break our lease because my partner got a new job in another state and they required 60 days notice plus 2 months rent. In our case, this totaled over $3,330.

The same day it dropped, I contacted the agent to confirm availability and was told (via email) that now the price is almost $400 higher even as it was listed on Zillow for the aforementioned price. Seems pretty suspect and could be interpreted in many ways but I'll allow you to come to your own conclusion. I informed the agent and nothing was done to make my interaction with this business worth a higher rating than provided.

Staff are responsive, friendly, and have clear communication. Repairs are handled very quickly and effectively - the maintenance guys are wonderful! The landscaping is always neat and completed at reasonable hours. Everyone in the complex during my stay was quiet and respectful of their neighbors, and it always felt extremely safe. Every unit has an individual entrance, and with lots of surrounding green space, it felt less "apartment-like". The complex is located right by Fairfield Mall and other shopping complexes, so on nice days it was easy to walk to the store. The main annoyance would be that USPS packages are automatically kept in the office. Since my work hours were not aligned, I would only be able to pick those up on the weekends. It's safe though, never had a stolen package! I also wished there was a recycling option. The price was great for the value and amount of space. Wish the apartments were a little more updated (style is early 2000s or so) but regardless, my unit was in great shape.

I was so excited about my first…read moreapartment and living in close proximity to downtown that I didn't see the glaring problems with St. Clair Lofts. Keep in mind that this is a renovated factory, so it's a very old building. Let's start with the good. The good: 1. Like I stated before, St. Clair Lofts is close to everything like The Oregon District, Brown Street, The Victoria Theatre and Schuster Center, the library, and Riverscape just to name a few. There are plenty of bars, restaurants, and clubs within walking distance. This is a good place for young people to live. 2. There is a gym in the building, as well as a party room and a back patio. Water and trash is included. 3. The apartments are spacious and a washer, dryer, dishwasher, and microwave are all included. The bad: 1. The rent is sky-high. Our rent was $930 for a two bedroom, two bath which is good considering the location, but exorbitant compared to prices in the surrounding Dayton area. Let it be known, you're paying for location, not luxury. Our DP&L was $600 for one month, mainly because the insulation is non-existent. Our front door in particular was slightly askew which was just enough for there to be a constant draft. The floor to ceiling windows made the entire apartment feel like it was 40 degrees at all times of the year, so while it was somewhat welcome in the summer, we were constantly freezing in the winter. No matter how high you turn the heat, it just goes right out the window. Space heaters were a must. 2. Speaking of windows; every time it rained, it would leak and pool in our living room. You can't really do much about it but move everything away from the windows. This is an old building. And it wasn't limited to our apartment. The windows in the hallway would do the same, leaving the apartment with a musty, mildewy smell almost all the time. The hallways are carpeted and carpet that is constantly wet is not pleasant. When we moved in the carpet was stained and gross. They replaced the carpet at the beginning of the year so it is better, but the windows haven't changed so I'm sure the carpet won't last long. 3. We had nothing but problems in our specific unit. When we first moved in, one of the toilets had a broken chain and wouldn't flush properly. Maintenance fixed it. Fast forward nine months and the same toilet overflowed EVERY TIME YOU FLUSHED IT. There could be nothing in the toilet and it would overflow if you flushed it. We snaked it, put drain cleaner, called maintenance up no less than four times and nothing changed. We gave up eventually because we were so close to our lease being up. The flooring was "brand new" at the time of move in and by the time of move out it was peeling and coming up. The oven didn't work when we moved in. Our food could be in the oven for over an hour and it would still be raw. Maintenance fixed it. All of our power in the front half (the kitchen) went out including our refrigerator a few months after moving in. When that went out we lost $100s of dollars of food. Maintenance fixed it. A month before we moved out, the refrigerator went out AGAIN, and AGAIN $100s of dollars of food was lost. Maintenance "fixed it" but it still wouldn't work. Then they replaced the whole refrigerator. We left it empty until we moved. The dryer would catch clothes and burn them. Maintenance "fixed it" but our clothes would still catch in the dryer and burn. I don't even know how that happened. 4. Other little things included that the unit has NO closets except for one shoebox sized one in each bedroom. Good luck with storage. There are no overhead lights except in the hallways, kitchen, and bathroom. You will need lamps for any sort of lighting. When the reviews say the walls are paper thin, believe them. THE WALLS ARE PAPER THIN. True story: our neighbor sneezed so loud, we said bless you and they said thank you back. When they walk in their apartment it feels like they're in ours. Another small thing is that all of the outlets in the apartment are flipped. It seems like a small thing until something needs to be upright, like a Febreeze plug in. More of a nuisance than anything. 5. It's downtown. Parking isn't free. You either pay for the lot across the street that's owned by the building for $50 or the lot in the back that's owned by a private company for $35. Or you park on the street and pay the meter. 6. When we moved in the lady went over the lease with us and basically bullet pointed it. Later, we got nasty letters saying we violated the lease because we weren't aware of the live Christmas tree policy. Read everything. If that wasn't enough, they raised the rent, which cemented the decision that we were not going to renew our lease. The bottom line is I would probably live downtown again, but I definitely wouldn't live here again.

The neighbors here will literally have their noses up your butt over what crack you stepped on and where. It's a nice area, however, the people here just really ruin it. Just petty people who have nothing else to do but pick on the people around them. Oh and the landlord is definitely a shark just out to get fees and fines. There's a daily fee if you don't pick up your package after 3 days from the office and they specifically tell you they're not required to let you know if there's a package there. What if you're out of town and someone mailed you something and you didn't know? Then you just gotta pay some fine? Ya, okay. Also, there's a weird thing in the lease where a % of your rent goes to 'charity' and you can't decline it. Ya, who knows if this is actually going towards charity. Honestly, the people here are shady. I'd avoid. I had a friend who wanted to move in here because of the area. Honestly, I told him to look elsewhere.

They have a new manager that I tried to call him the day he did our inspection weeks ago and nothing... still nothing.. i have him on camera talking trash and taking pictures of our apartment. He and some kid was going through my stuff and talking about how I was a firefighter and something about our door chocks because our cats keep locking themselves in rooms.... they went into my bedroom and closed the door and was in there a bit. I spoke to him before about the birds nesting in the breezeway ceilings. They haven't looked at it and just pulled stuff out again today so they don't nest. Im afraid of it catching on fire. So I could tell you some horror stories about this place like the lady that blew up her toilet mixing chemicals to "clean".. the fire department told management to let us know what happened, they didn't. See smoke pictures from downstairs They are still fixing the building that did catch fire next to us. When we moved in I was having trouble drying our clothes. We later found out that the vent for the dryer was not properly vented outside. So all that heat and humidity has built into the wall.. wow another fire hazard. So many reviews are true about this place and honestly they charge way to much for the run down out of date units they have. I have paid every month on time without issue for the last 4-5 years and have called about maintenance maybe 4 times mostly because of the out of date furnace and to screw with me so close to our lease being up is stupid on your part.
