Fifth & Rose: 8/10 Located in the lobby of the pendry, I came down and stopped by for some quick drinks before going to dinner. Service: 8/10 was a bit slower, but giving off the cocktail lounge vibe of no rush, no problem. Aesthetic & Ambiance: 8/10 nicer bar / cocktail lounge with a bit of seating but plenty bar space. Ambiance was a trickle crowd of people starting around 6pm. Big Lebowski: 8.5/10 great tiki drink, very yummy & sweet with a smooth coconut taste. Passion fruit spritz: 8/10 citrus forward with great blend of passion fruit. A little more on the sour side, not too sweet. read more

Why can't every hotel lobby bar be this cool? I used to live in San Diego and am pretty sure I've been to this bar before, but I was able to return the day after Thanksgiving when I stayed at the Pendry. I had a food & beverage credit so was lucky enough to have some amazing cocktails in a cool space 2 nights in a row. 5 stars, no notes! read more

Have been a few times now for drinks only, and this spot continues to be solid at worst and great at best. It's wild how slow it can be sometimes for how good it is, which makes it a nice little hamlet. It's a good day drinking spot if you are looking to avoid Gaslamp during party hours. If you wander by and see it empty, don't hesitate to drop in, highly recommend belly up to the bar and wander off-menu. Ambiance is try-hard like the whole Pendry but it's actually super unpretentious and approachable, and the service is always kind, capable, and personable. read more

I didn't try the food here but the espresso martini was to die for. A little on the sweeter side but I like the way they used coconut for the foam, it was different but a good different. Beautiful bar and open space concept where you can people watch from anywhere you're sitting. I came here for a happy hour sip and enjoyed a few bar bites as well. I had a couple glasses of savblanc and of course some champagne. I highly recommend coming here for a drink if you're just getting off of work, here for a conference, or going out in downtown. The bartenders were really nice and attentive. I didn't feel like I had to over explain what I wanted as I have had to at other bars downtown. read more

Such a cute bar located in the lobby of Pendry SD. I really liked their menu options, there's a variety. This is a chill spot to hang out if you're ever downtown. Drinks are a bit pricy but worth it. They have uncommon ingredients you won't find at any bar. My drink came out quickly too. You don't have to stay at the hotel to drink here and walk ins are welcomed. read more

I'd recommend this bar to start or end the night with friends or a cozy date night away from the outside buzz of Gaslamp District. Inside decor is intimate and luxurious, and the drinks are sweet. We ordered the crab egg rolls (2) and truffle fries that were good as leftovers. Staff checked in once to take our order, doubled back to see if we wanted more drinks, but otherwise had to call for our check. The drinks came out quickly, but our apps came out after ~20 minutes. read more

We have popped into this bar several times before in the gaslamp area at the Pendry Hotel- sometimes this bar is empty and other times it is jammed with hotel guest, convention visitors and locals. This night the bar was slammed with only one bartender and a bar back. I felt sorry for the bartender as he was not only serving those directly at the bar but also fixing drinks for those at the tables. Too much for one to handle. And many of their drinks are complex. Despite the rush of people, the bartender still made solid drinks and provided the best service possible. What is expected of this caliber of a bar and the price of drinks that average around 20 dollars in an upscale location. We would come back to this location, during quieter times that we could relax with our cocktails. read more

My group stopped into Fifth & Rose before our dinner reservations down the street, and I was very impressed at the quality of the cocktails, elegant ambiance, and the quick service. Our experience was good because our bartender Brennon gave us great customer service. We didn't even sit at the bar but he brought us water immediately! I ordered an Espresso Martini and I was charged $15 Tito's plus $4 espresso? $19 for a small espresso martini? That is so ridiculous! Before heading into a recent Padres game we decided to grab a drink or two outside of the ballpark and landed on Fifth & Rose which is within the Pendry hotel. They have lots of bar seating along with some lounge seating around the bar, it isn't very large but it wasn't too crowded before the game which was nice and a quieter bar compared to others in the area before Padres game. Austin was our bartender and was very attentive and was able to whip up some fun mixed shots to get us going before the game which was nice. We knew we wanted some sort of shot but really didn't know what to ask for and he knew just the correct thing to make. I went with an espresso martini for my actual drink which was perfection! I will be back again soon for some pre Padre drinks! read more

We popped in for late night dessert and cocktails and wow they were packed. We were a little unclear of how to be seated. The hostesses are away from the front quite often so while we waited at the stand others just walked straight into the bar. We still aren't clear on what their system is. The hostess did come back and we were seated immediately outside. We each ordered a tequila cream soda cocktail. My friend liked hers but I could not stand it. Our waitress was AMAZING. I hate complaining, but for $20 I didn't want to drink something I hated. She took it off our check and recommended I have a cucumber gin instead. So good. We also ordered the macaroon flight. It was good, not great. They serve them on a plate of raw sugar that sticks to the cookies and takes away from the flavor a bit. read more

So we ended up here after Lumi. The experience of eating out during covid is really different. We were sat far away from people, which is what I prefer lol. I didn't want to drink but I came out of the bathroom and there were drinks flowing lol. We told the waitress it was my friend's birthday and Lumi didn't get her a dessert. This bar is one of the handful of concepts that are part of the Pendry hotel along with Nason's, Lionfish, Provinsial, Pool House, and Oxford Social. At night the crowd is an interesting mix of hotel guests and those waiting to get into the clubs nearby like Oxford and Omnia. Conference goers combined with birthday/bachelor(ette) parties and other just out in Gaslamp. Makes for some good people watching. It is street level and has a small patio so the people watching gets even more interesting out there. We had two regular quality (nothing exciting) glasses of wine each and the bill was over $70 so it isn't cheap. A little in the high side for the quality but it is a hotel bar and I expect higher prices at hotels. read more

Not worth it. The bar itself is beautiful and attractive which is what drew me in for some reason aside from an article I read on eatry. I worked in hospitality for years so I know the expectation of service that is standard for employees, especially for a luxury Montage Intl. property. First off staff working during my visit was not warm or engaging. Took a moment for us to be welcomed. Not much eye contact going on here. Customer service is lacking. Tables weren't clean and the bar needed a wipe down. Our drinks were made quick. I will say that our cocktails were absolutely not worth it. I know cocktail prices are higher at a resort than a bar or restaurant off property, however, the quality of the drink did not match the price tag. It was watered down and I simply didn't enjoy it. The watered down drink was instantly noticed after one sip and I'm usually not one to pay much attention to these things. Maybe order a beer or wine or head down to another spot. read more

Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

He even brought out a chocolate cake and dulce de leche cheesecake with "Happy Birthday" in cocoa powder for the two birthdays at our table. The bathrooms are a fun experience as there are big glass windows behind the sinks so you get a view of the street. Love that both bathrooms are all-gender as well. Great photo ops all around. Multiple bystanders witnessed his behavior but failed to intervene, assuming it was just "relationship drama" After the man finally left, the venue's security completely misread the situation. Instead of checking on my well-being or ensuring the aggressor had left the premises, security targeted and chased me as if I were the problem. It is incredibly disappointing and dangerous for a business's security team to lack the basic situational awareness and training required to identify the actual victim in a situation. I felt entirely unprotected by the staff here. I hope management takes this as a serious sign that their security team needs immediate retraining on bystander intervention and de-escalation, rather than harassing women who are already in vulnerable situations.

Mothership has a really cool concept and a unique vibe, but for me, it's more of a place to try once in a while rather than somewhere I'd be rushing back to visit.

What came out was the best cocktail I will probably ever have in my life. The bourbon cocktail with coffee liqueur (and a number of other garnishes I will never remember) hit the bullseye. Flavorful, strong, bold, delicious all at the same time. Unfortunately (?), this was a noble experiment so I'll forever be chasing the white whale of what this drink was. But that's the allure.

For appetizers, we did start with the Brussel sprouts and the French onion soup and both were PHENOMENAL. The French onion didn't have the crunch and a lot of cheese like others, but the flavor was amazing! For drinks, I was having their Old Fashions and they were soooo tasty. Was the perfect drink for the night. Dessert, we had a Mud Pie and Apple Crisp. It's difficult to even get into the parking lot, which is in a tight strip that's in between the sidewalk where the restaurant's building was located and Harbor Drive, which has its own navigating issues with the street also being the main drag to have access to the airport. I had to circle around the area using PCH to get back onto Harbor, then approach the restaurant from the north. When I got into the "lot," I had to flag down a couple of valets to ask if they had any open spots. One of them told me to circle back around AGAIN to get an open spot. I decided to heck with that and just pulled into a parking garage on Ash St. just 50 yards away from the restaurant. Once inside, we were able to get into a private dining area for my mom's party. The eating space was nice and spacious, acommodating for our party of at least 20 people. The restaurant is also very nice and clean. The entrees and appetizers did seem like standard wedding fare, though. I ordered the braised shortrib, and while it was good, I couldn't escape the impression that it was something that one would normally eat at a wedding reception. The beef was soft and tender, the mashed potatoes creamy, and the carrots were cooked very well. I enjoyed the strawberry lemonade cocktail and appreciated that they reduced the vodka content so that I wouldn't get so buzzed from one drink. Eventually, I had to order a regular lemonade though, which I did enjoy. It was sweet and not overly sour. Also one point in their favor was the clam chowder starter course. That also had a little sweet flavor to it, which was definitely preferable to having an overly salty taste. The bits of bacon in the chowder helped to cut down the sweetness. The desserts were pretty standard fare. I liked the chocolate brownie more than the raspberry cheesecake. I will also note that the two servers we had for the dinner party were terrific. It couldn't have been easy to handle that kind of workload but they looked like they've been doing this kind of thing before.
