    Caesar salad with grilled salmon

We had an opportunity to dine at Fifth Street Diner as part of our stay at the Hyatt Hotel. The diner was not well reviewed on Yelp but we decided to try it anyway. Honestly I'm not sure what these people were complaining about but the restaurant is absolutely amazing. It's beautiful inside. The service is amazing. The food is fantastic, very large portions, and honestly they're not overpriced at all. We had three nights at the hotel and we ate three times at this restaurant. For breakfast we tried their lunch menu as well, absolutely delicious. I love their salad, I love their goat cheese omelet, and I love their steak and fries. Highly recommend. Check out my pictures.

The service was excellent. The coffee was hot. I just wouldn't get the omelette again. I asked to keep the mushrooms and felt they pit on extra. Not sure what the meet was but not sausage. I scrapped everything off it. The burrito was good and the hotcakes look amazing. The ambience was like a old 50's dinner with small coffee cups.

This is a terrific diner on 5th St and San Jacinto. It's part of the Thompson Austin Hotel, and the diner is the breakfast venue included for those who purchase a room that includes breakfast. It's set up like an old 50s diner, or at least that's what they're going for. It's comfortable and welcoming. I had breakfast here every morning of the 5 days I stayed. The standout dishes for me were the Classic Breakfast, where you pick 2 eggs any way you want them, bacon or sausage (chicken or pork), and any bread as toast. The pototoes didn't measure up to the rest of the food items and I found myself leaving most of them. They're not crispy or very flavorful. It's an item they need to improve on. The sausage and the eggs were great. I also had the Bread Pudding French Toast one morning and I will say that was the best dish of all. They were fluffy and nicely cooked and included a good amount of berries. I would also recommend the half grapefruit, which they give you with torched sugar on top. The fruit plate included a good amount of pineapple, cantalope, blueberries and blackberries. I found myself ordering it in addition to the breakfast plate 3 times. The staff was very friendly and efficient. This diner adds to the experience at the Thompson Austin and is one of the reasons I would return.

The steak and eggs here are really good! I asked for medium and it came out medium well, but it was still juicy! The sauce on the side is fantastic and recommend mixing a bit of it with ketchup on the side for the potatoes :)

Tried a few things here and overall it was a great experience! The steak & eggs were --easily a 10/10. Cooked perfectly and super flavorful. The breakfast sando wasn't really my thing--too much bread, felt like I was chewing forever (probably the sourdough), but that's just personal preference. Now the chocolate chip pancakes... WOW. Super chocolatey just how I like them. Definitely another 10/10. It's like a old school diner loved the vibe and servers were really nice!! Overall, I'd come back for sure--just sticking to my favorites next time!

I should've checked the reviews before I ate there. The kind of, food, that they served is in question. I was extremely disappointed in the quality and the taste. I couldn't eat the seed oil potatoes at all. It was difficult to eat the egg that was cooked with the seed oil as well. The bacon even tasted old, I don't understand why they can't cook, eggs and potatoes in the bacon fat, that's what I would do. Now that I know what I know, I would not go back or recommend. I JUST CAN'T

    All those potatoes!!!

I've walked by here a million times when they were closed. They close at 2, so no late brunch here. Super cute interior and I loved the quote above the bar. As a single diner sat at the bar and was pleasantly surprised the stools didn't have my legs dangling. I hate that as I'm not the tallest person around. Anyhoo, ordered coffee and the brisket hash. Coffee was good and the hash just had a ton of potatoes. Like tooo much. I'd recommend to ask for the potatoes on the side. The brisket was good and the eggs cooked fine. Service was prompt and friendly. Everyone that walked in the door is greeted right away, a team effort which was nice to see. Overall good experience and I'd keep in mind for the next time I'm nearby before 2pm.

I felt like I took a trip down 1950s Avenue. If anyone loves diner food this is the place to come. We came here for brunch in the middle of the week which was awesome because we were one of a few handfuls of patrons. Sometimes when it's quiet, it's nice to be in a restaurant when you're just one of a few there being served. This was one of the occasions. Our server was very nice and polite and was there to serve us with a bunch of smiles and cracked a few jokes along the way. I highly recommend coming down here even if it's for a plate of bacon and eggs for breakfast. Will not disappoint!

I've eaten here a couple times and I've always enjoyed it. It gives laid back diner vibes but you're in the middle of downtown. The food is always great quality, nothing over the top but it's been reliably good. It's usually pretty busy on the weekends so I'd arrive early to avoid the wait. No complaints about this place but it also doesn't stand out as a must try.

Very cool old school feel. Food was so good had breakfast here every morning while on vacation here. Very quick service.

5th Street Diner -- Austin, TX (Where the butter was soft, the pancake was mid, and the interior had main character energy in a poodle skirt.) Walked in and immediately felt like I had just entered the opening scene of a very well-lit indie film. Mint-green chairs, checkerboard floors, amber water glasses. Honestly? Aesthetic excellence. If Instagram were a person, she'd be sitting at that counter ordering hash browns with a vintage camera and a secret. The vibe? Cute. Playfully retro without trying too hard. The Anthony Bourdain quote overhead gave it just the right amount of culinary ego, and the whole place felt like it was designed for people who don't mind paying $6 for tap water if the natural light is hitting their cheekbone just right. And I respect that. Noise level (11:30am, Saturday): Shockingly peaceful. No chaotic silverware symphony. No toddlers peaking in volume. People using their inside voices in 2025 is peak condition. Just chill brunch energy and one guy in a Patagonia hat reading the menu like it was a manifesto. 10/10. The latte: $6. Bitter. Drinkable. Came with oat milk and zero upcharge -- which feels rare enough in this city to count as a blessing. Not life-changing, but she got the job done and we avoided a caffeine withdrawal catastrophe. The pancake: Thin. Underwhelming. Whispered "health food" at me. I wasn't mad... I was just disappointed. Syrup helped. Butter helped more. Speaking of butter: It was soft. In a side dish. Served like it had a trust fund and a skincare routine. No foil-wrapped shame cubes. Just golden, creamy, spreadable confidence. Truly the standout of the whole plate. Blueberries: $1 extra for real ones. Bursty and sweet. The pancake's only real personality trait. Total: $15.40 + priceless butter moment $5 pancake $1 blueberries $6 latte TL;DR -- If you're brunching for the aesthetic, absolutely go. If you're looking to be spiritually moved by a pancake, keep walking. Would I return? Yes. But I'd order something else -- and definitely ask for extra butter. Soft recommend

Fantastic! Lovely staff and chef is hands on. Manning the station like a pro. Amazing vibe and great food. The steak and eggs is the bomb dot com! Espresso martini on tap is STRONG (perfection). Love this place and its aesthetic.

This location has metered street parking and is also attached to the Thompson and tommie hotels. We went early on a Tuesday morning and wasn't super busy yet but got busier by the time we got our food. We got seated quickly and the service was decent. The wait time for food once you ordered wasn't too long. My latte was better than expected but not sure I would order again. I really enjoyed the brisket hash and their habanero salsa was a good quick to add on. The eggs were cooked well. The potatoes were good. The vibe is retro diner but had great natural light for a more modern cute diner feel.

There is a parking lot that you can get validation for 2 hrs free, but after that you will be charged. Overall though, it's totally worth a visit! The bartenders are really friendly, the bathrooms are immaculate, and the inside of the place is really cute -- think kinda pink vintage? There are some tables, and big comfy couches around a coffee table in the middle of the bar which is where we sat. I had one of their happy hour cocktails that was similar to a creamy espresso martini, and they are 50% off on happy hour days/times! My friend got one of their floral cocktails which wasn't discounted but I LOVED it personally. I also got a strawberry matcha drink (non alcoholic) that was a little too sweet in my opinion; I finished it but wouldn't get it again. Overall though the cocktails and vibe in there are worth a visit alone! When it's not too hot, the area outside has little mini-chandeliers and is also very vibey.

Located inside the Colton House Hotel, Simona's is the hotel's local resident serving coffee by…read moreday, and cocktails by night. I usually only go to coffee shops to work, but today, went on a coffee date with my dog instead. There's ground floor parking in the garage that's complimentary for two hours. I kept it simple with a vanilla latte. I noticed they had tacos at the bottom of the food menu, but at $13.25 for two tacos + an a la carte item, I decided to pass. Maybe my expectations were too high (as usual) because it's inside a hotel, but I was hoping for the kind of warm hospitality hotels are known for, but instead, the service felt a bit cold. It didn't exactly make me want to spend more money there. While sitting on the patio, I spotted the food truck outside and thought, "PERFECT. A food truck HAS to be cheaper. Take that Simona's!" I walked up to the window... only to find out it wasn't actually a separate food truck. It was just the pickup window. To order? I had to go back inside to Simona's and place my order with the delightful staff... I ended up ordering two Blue Migas tacos, and honestly, they were just... good, but nothing memorable. They tasted like your average breakfast tacos that you can find all over Austin for less. Despite loving how relaxing the outdoor patio is with its lucious greenery surrounding you and the beautiful French chairs and cafe tables, it's located right next to the hotel pool. If you're visiting on a summer afternoon, expect some extra noise with pool guests. If you're looking for a quiet coffee or a place to work, I'd recommend coming early in the morning instead.
