I have been using this florist for decades. Its team is pleasant, professional and creative. In all those years, I had one issue, called the owner at the time (Pat) and he was so apologetic and sent a bigger and better replacement within the hour. Fifth Street's flower arrangements last for a very long time. One other thing that's important. Several times, I've needed a special type of arrangement and described it to the service person for whom it was new territory (ex: Hanukkah, Mardi Gras, Notre Dame mums arrangement) and the results have been remarkable. read more

So, on January 2nd I called Fifth Street Flower Shop to order flowers for a dear friend's father. I explained the arrangement I was interested in buying. My concern with florists is, do you really get what you order when they know you live in another state. The funeral was in Springfield, IL and I live in Oklahoma City, OK and unable to travel to the funeral. While placing the order I asked when the arrangement would be delivered and was told they would deliver it by 8 am on 1/4, the day of the funeral. I then asked when they would make the flower arrangement because U didn't want it arranged too soon as the flowers would open more and wouldn't last as long. I was told they would make the arrangement late Wednesday afternoon for an early Thursday delivery. Perfect. I then asked that once the arrangement was completed would they please text me a picture of the completed product as I would be unable to ensure it was what I paid for and I'm NOT going to ask a friend about the flowers I sent. I was assured they would text the picture to me and then verified the telephone number/ I never got a picture or even a confirmation the flowers were ever delivered. Simple request and you would hope they follow through. I will probably never use them again because I don't know whether they fulfilled their end of the bargain. read more

My experience leading up to my wedding day was spectacular. Everyone was so friendly and I love them. And that's what makes this review hard to write. The flowers were the thing I was looking forward to most about the wedding. I was supposed to have a big, beautiful cascading bouquet with dark lilies and Queen Anne's lace among my other flower choices. My groom's boutonniere was supposed to have the lily as well. My cake was supposed to have 2 tiers of flowers overflowing and spilling from the tops of the cakes. Sounds like it was supposed to be this big, dazzling scene, right? WRONG. My bridesmaid came up to give me my bouquet and I flat out told her, "No, that's one of yours, not mine." As the others had showed me their bouquets. Round, no lilies, like they were supposed to look. But this bouquet was indeed mine, as it was different from the others, but not in the way that I was expecting. My bouquet was the exact same size as the bridesmaids, wrapped in floral silk with the stems hanging out of the bottom, but the only differences were that there were small jewels and lamb's ear on the outside of the bouquet. LAMB'S EAR. We started taking pictures at noon and the wedding was at 4. By the time the ceremony came around, the lamb's ear was dead and wilted and look absolutely atrocious. I had to hold my bouquet high up on the flowers to hide the fact that my bouquet looked awful. Also, no lilies. I got to my reception hoping that my cake would make me smile. I was introduced along with my new husband and upon walking into the hall, my face dropped when I saw my cake. Those big, overflowing flower tiers I was expecting was actually a sprig of a couple stems. No bigger than my ring-bearer's boutonniere. Are you kidding? By this time I could not hide my frustration. I had visited Fifth Street Flower Shop multiple times, discussing exactly what I was expecting and even the day before the wedding I went over there and everything seemed in place. I was very wrong and I do not recommend Fifth Street Flower Shop. read more

Ordered a floral bouquet for my dear friend and the receptionist was so kind and helpful with flower selection. I requested something very colorful and cheery and he did not disappoint. My pal shot me a photo and not only gorgeous but extremely generous in size. I live in Phoenix yet wanted to support their local economy rather than a big consortium. This is the only place I will buy flowers in Springfield! I saw their arrangements at a wedding and was very impressed. I gave very specific instructions on a bouquet. I didn't get to meet with the woman in person, but was able to send her photos. I told her I am 5'2", 110 lbs and wanted a small simple bouquet. I sent her a pic of what I liked, but explained that I wanted a dark burgundy colored flower instead of the peach in the photo. Well.... got the bouquet. It was GIGANTIC. Looked like a centerpiece. It would have taken over my the top half of my body in photos Had several peach colored flowers in it and NO dark burgundy except 2 small tulips. Had some fuzzy looking stuff that wilted after about 2 hours. It was very "weedy" looking. It was awful and looked nothing like the pictures I sent her. To top it off, no one in this place was very friendly. They weren't mean, just not nice. I work in customer service. I have for 19 years. They are NOT good at it! Thankfully we were able to have a MUCH better flower shop fix it and I ended up with a gorgeous bouquet for my wedding day! read more

I was in town for a local government event, and I'd forgotten to order flowers for the event organizer prior to coming to town. I searched Yelp for the best rated florist in Springfield and ended up here. I was thoroughly impressed with everything the moment I walked through the door. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I needed a very nice fall bouquet at a certain price point and they were able to make a fantastic one for me right on the spot in my price range. It was absolutely perfect and the fact that they could create a custom arrangement in just a few minutes while I waited was an added bonus. This is a great place that I'll definitely frequent again when the need arises. read more

My husband purchased flowers at Fifth Street Flower Shop on Valentine's Day. He walked in to the store about 5 pm and asked for four long stem roses. He has given me four roses many times over the years as they are symbolic to us. An employee gathered the roses for him and told him they would be "about sixty dollars." Surprised, but knowing that Valentine's Day is usually a reason for florists to place a premium on flowers, he decided to continue with the purchase even though the four roses were $54 more than he usually pays. When he was at the cash register, he was ultimately charged $40, or $10/rose. The reason for the price discrepancy between employees is unknown. While this is less than the price he was initially quoted, it is still an incredible up charge considering that the usual price is $4/rose in Springfield, IL. I am writing this because I think that Fifth Street Flower Shop took advantage of its customers on Valentines Day. While I would expect an up charge on Valentine's Day, I would never expect a 150% up charge. I believe the employees knew becoming late in the business day and they were taking advantage of their customers. I would also like to note that two of the roses are already browning and I've had them for less than 24 hours. My husband and I will not be returning to this florist and I will attempt to warn all of our friends about Fifth Street Flower Shop's businesses practices and quality. read more

I am very grateful for the beautiful job Leann and her team did for the arrangement I bought for my uncle's memorial. I came in for an appointment to sit down and actually talk about what I wanted and how I envisioned it looking, at their suggestion when they learned what the arrangement was for. Leann was even detailed enough that she wanted to know what else would be on the table to know the right size and colors. My family was so happy with the arrangement and thought they were perfect. Thank you to everyone there for doing a great job during such a tough time. I never felt rushed, I felt like they met and exceeded my expectations and even helped package the arrangement to successful make the three hour trek back to Chicago where the memorial was being held.
