Having eaten at Filho's Cucina this past Saturday night I was pleasantly surprised that there has been improvement to their quality which I previously felt went downhill. Maybe a new chef...everything is cooked to perfection which is important when it comes to proteins. I had the salmon special & my husband had the Chicken Piccata, both were superb, moist and tender. First time in, and what a good idea! I was looking for something quick as I was on the road. My go to is typically chicken Cesar wraps. But walking into Filhos I knew this was going to be taken up a notch. The Paolitos Chicken: beautiful Chicken, absolute game changer a beautiful cutlet on a bed of greens, tomato, red onion, melted provolone and the pesto aioli on a fresh baguette. I also noticed in the salad deli, a nice looking mozzarella, tomato, and basil, but this had gnocchi. First bite into that came a nice fresh lemon zest that took me by a surprise which added a whole other level of taste to an already fantastic side. It was so good. I went here with a life long friend who is struggling. I found the staff to be very rude. Made us feel stupid, like we didn't know the protocol. It was very uncomfortable. One particular wait staff at one point said I'd be rude to stand outside. We were just trying to get a lovely outdoor seat, and my friend has trouble standing. They never went over anything with us ( for example that you order on your own, there are no waitresses. We finally sat outside. For a few minutes the same wait staff. (Woman with short dark hair) Came out and again questioned us had we ever dined there before, because we were just sitting there, then proceeded to tell us we have to go in and order. Making us feel less. Needless to say the help was rude felt like they were talking about us. But I will say your food was good. Would have loved to recommend, or even return. Heard so many good things about this place. First the seating is casual and feels like take out only. The place was fairly busy so I figured it was good. Ordered the food from counter and woman was not that friendly. We ordered 2 chicken parm dinners and it was $52 dollars. I thought it was a little pricey but willing to pay for great Italian. THIS is the part that bothered us. We sat down in corner waiting for food and thats when I saw a cock roach walking up the wall. I tried not to let my wife know but I kept watching it on ceiling above us. The food came out quick and ofcourse the pasta was warm like reheated like most fast food. Wow -- what a fantastic Italian meal! We visited Filho's on Mother's Day and, although they don't take reservations, we were relieved to find seating during the lull between lunch and dinner. Outdoor tables were available, making for a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Filho's offers a casual, self-serve setup: you seat yourself, grab your own water and menu, and place your order at the counter. Once ordered, they bring out fresh bread with herbs for dipping in extra virgin olive oil -- a simple, delicious start. I had the chicken piccata, my husband ordered the shrimp scampi, and my mom chose the shrimp Carcioffi. The food arrived in about 10 minutes and was absolutely amazing -- some of the best Italian we've had in a long time! The portions were generous, and the staff checked in on us often to make sure we had everything we needed. A big bonus: Filho's is BYOB, which made our outing even more enjoyable and budget-friendly. The restaurant is beautiful, it's small and there's paintings on the walls and it feels family style. The service was amazing with someone asking us if we've ever been there before and explaining how it works. It was a little bit different from other restaurants because you can sear yourself and you have to go up to the register to order then they bring the food to you. I've been a frequent customer for 22 years. I often visit with family and friends and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. A recent visit with a friend was a disappointment. She ordered a panini. A panini as many of us know, is a sandwich that is grilled or pressed in a panini press. Her 'panini' came out as a small sub roll, 2 slices of tomatoes, a glob of mozzarella and a smear of pesto. Not grilled, not cut...nothing. $13. We asked the waitress about it and she said 'that's it'. I contacted the owner and was told panini in Italian means sandwich. No sorry, no compensation. Just 'sorry, it's Italian for sandwich. The change in thinking started after I tried a few different mini sandwiches (whole ones cut small) that were ordered in at work. The breads were impressive, the proteins were first rate, and the blend of supporting ingredients and condiments--whether aioli, oil, pesto, spicy mustard-- really made them work. A second catering order reinforced that opinion and led to two in-store visits to try sandwiches whole. Lindsey's Chicken: Grilled chicken on focaccia. The chicken was nice, but what makes this sandwich sing is the butter, griddled into the focaccia. Paolo's Chicken: Breaded fried chicken on a baguette with pesto sauce, tomatoes, and additional vegetation. Good crackle to the crust with plenty of give underneath. Verdura: Mushroom sandwich on toasted focaccia. This was my vegetarian wife's choice, but I gotta admit I was impressed by the presentation, which included an assortment of piping hot cooked vegetables with a little sauce. Prosciutto: Sliced thin, but piled high, and offset by thick slices of mozzarella, on a baguette. Greens counter the richness, and oil adds some moisture. Hearty. Caesar Salad: Enough for two or two servings for one. Kind of on the plain side. Filho's is a standby for all Groton residents. I've eaten their food more often than any other restaurant around. If you eat here, know it is incredibly crowded and LOUD. It can be quaint, with the sliding door into the beer and wine place next door. You can order your food, find a table, then sneak next door to get your wine. You can bring it into Filho's and open and drink it there. Kind of cute. We mainly get food to-go from here, and it is always amazing. Their red sauce is perfect. Some of the best. I wish their lasagna had meat in it or a meat option; I usually get a side of meatballs. I will say last time I did that the meatballs had like - sand? Something in them - it wasn't pleasant and I didn't finish them. But in the 100 times I've eaten their food, that's the only issue I've ever come across. Their bread is also excellent. We don't have many options in this area. So few places to go out and make a night of it. If you crave Italian, place an order here and take it home. You'll love it! read more

We love this cucina. It's a small, cute & cozy little place where you order at the counter and seat yourself. The food is so good here and...it's BYOB! There is even a wine shop connected to the restaurant which is very convenient. Warm fresh bread is delivered to your table while you wait for your meal. Wine glasses, opener, water, real utensils, are all available for use. It's very small so going off-hours is best as it can get quite busy during peak hours. They offer outdoor seating when possible, however, the tables are right next to the parking lot which isn't ideal.
