Filippi's is a local favorite! Exceptional pizza and pasta. I've eaten here twice this week already! I dined in and had their Filippi's Family Combo - it was HUGE. The ravioli, lasagna and spaghetti were all delicious. The lasagna was the winner for me. Nice ambiance, although a little dated - it's like a cute old Italian restaurant. Service was fast and the server was kind. Today I had the pepperoni and mushroom pizza, which was also delicious. The crust is crisp on the bottom, even though there's plenty of melty cheese on top. FYI, if you have never had Filippi's, the star of the show on their pizza is the cheese! Without that extra thick layer of cheese, it just wouldn't be Filippi's pizza. Very disappointed! I love all the filippis so I was excited to go to this location by my house. We ordered a half Margherita pizza and half meat lovers. I love cheese but this pizza had way to much cheese..you couldn't even pick up the slice. Also, the Margherita side was awful. Thick cold sandwich slice type tomatoes and shredded basil like lettuce. When the waitress asked how we liked the food, I told her there was way to much cheese and that the tomatoes were very burger like in style. She laughed and said.. "yeah we put a lot of cheese you can order it light medium or reg cheese." Why didn't she ask that when we ordered then? And the right thing to do would have been for her to ask if she can have it remade for us. I mean the pizza was 40 dollars. We barely touched it. We also got the lasagna and ravioli dinner. Been a customer here almost as long as they've been open. Always courteous and friendly and good food. Nothing too high end, but good regular Italian dishes. Now, not so much. Pretty sure the last original family member has left the building. Everything tastes canned. Service people simply don't care. No order is ever correct. Complaints being discussed openly in the restaurant at multiple tables. Then, to make it worse, they are openly overcharging. Menu says $21.95, bill says $25.90. And I checked on the way out to make sure I didn't get the one menu that got missed with the increase. Nope. All said $21.95. I don't make a fuss in restaurants I may need to return to. I paid. EPIC CHEESE PULL- mirrors that to the pizza scene in Goof Troop. The wait staff was kind and helpful with our large party. Had a whole back room to ourselves which was nice. The pizza was great when hot- once it started getting cold abundance of cheese was hard to fight through! The salad bowls were big and plentiful. read more

Ordered a pizza for the family over the phone for pickup. We asked for anchovies on the side as my daughter likes them. Not on the pizza. When my daughter picked it up, they had put them on the meat lovers pizza. My daughter brought this up and they said that was how it was ordered in the phone and didn't offer to remake it. We sat down to eat and I couldn't even eat a bite without gagging. My daughter, who like anchovies couldn't eat it. It was very disappointing that the staff at the front brushed this off. I would have never tried this place aside from my work ordered it and wow was it good. I said let me try the one near my home in Santee location and I'm glad I did. We ordered the Works pizza which has sausage, pepperoni, and mushrooms and we asked for extra cheese. Wow was I shocked at how much extra cheese they put on there. I also ordered a medium cheese and I couldn't tell which was the cheese pizza based off of how much extra cheese was in my pizza. The pizza was full of flavor and the crust soft and had a slight pull when you bit into it. I also ordered the garlic bread with marinara sauce. Honestly that was kinda boring. It had no real flavor of garlic in the bread and the sauce was kinda blah. I didn't give this place 5 stores based off of that and also there was another issue which they resolved so I cut them a break because I love it when a place makes a wrong a right. I ordered this for pick up so I don't know how it is to eat there but maybe one day I will . I took another picture of the cheese pizza slice once the pizza was cold so you can visually see how much extra cheese is on this pizza. We've ordered takeout pizza from this Santee location for years and it is generally one of the better pizzas in this area most of the time. Tonight, we had the absolute worst ordering experience and received a poorly made pizza. They told us ready in 25 minutes but when I arrived I was told it wasn't ready and would be another 15 minutes. Then, 25 minutes later for 50 minutes total our pizza was finally ready. As I sat there in the cramped waiting area, I watched multiple delivery drivers come in and pick up their orders, so it was obvious who they cater to first as a priority. We ordered a three topping pizza with extra sauce. The pizza we got was one of the worst we've had from there. The pizza toppings were haphazardly spread, excessive outer crust, and there was no extra sauce on the pizza (fortunately, due to the excessive wait, they took off the charge for the extra sauce). So, at least I didn't have to pay for what I didn't get. It looked like the pizza was made in a rush just to get it out the door because they got busy. If the pizza had been great, the extra wait would have been tolerable, but wait twice as long and then have a bad pizza is unacceptable! read more

Went to stay with family in the Lakeside area, so I decided to order dinner for a group. I decided to order online for delivery and chose to order enough to feed an army and have leftovers the next day. It was about one month or longer into COVID lock down, so we ordered through an app and had it delivered to the house via contact less delivery. It was relatively easy and fast To start, I ordered the antipasto salad, meatball, mozzarella sticks, bread and Italian dressing. Then I ordered a couple pizzas including the combo pizza and a white pizza with garlic and basil. Everything was pretty damn good and cheesy, but the meatball was my favorite appetizer. I have been a patron 30 years. The downtown Filippi's is top notch. Lasagna was excellent two weeks ago. That day my bill was $150. This restaurant was excellent in the past. Tonight, they lost my order, then after one hour and a quarter for "to go", my lasagna did not have any ricotta cheese, the mozzarella was a thick brick, the bread was thin and old dried out shoe leather, and the garlic bread was equally bad, probably microwaved from a prior day! I am that 1 out of 100 people, today, whose order was over looked. I've never had this problem before. I stood next to the cash register for an hour and 10 minutes total. At the half hour mark, a waitress came to ask what my phone number was, they couldn't find my order. She came back 10 minutes later.. oh my gosh, it's a tablet order. Her and another lady vigorously writing my order .. they said they'll get it right in. Half an hour later, it will be 5-6 minutes.. 15 minutes pass, it will be 5 more minutes. I waited and watched 25-30 people come and go with their orders.. 1 father and son waited for 15-20 minutes. He became outraged and told the workers that "that's ridiculous, it said my order will be ready at this time!" I never complained, I just let them know I ordered at 3:50 (ready in 40 minutes), I was there at 4:40 and it was now 5:40.. as my son called to tell me, he and his fiance had to leave my house,, so they didn't get their food. I, the mother and grandmother, of my family of 9, who waited for this meal, am crying because I am upset about the long wait and that my entire family couldn't sit together to eat a nice meal on Mother's Day. I am mad that I didn't stand up for myself, I am Upset that the workers didn't look at the tablet, but I am not mad at the team. I could see that they were hustling to get EVERY ONE, taken care of. The manager was doing a superb job at making the customers feel welcomed and taken care of. She was delegating the jobs that needed to be done! They all worked well together!! I drive 15 miles to buy their pizza and antipasto salad. I use to go to the Poway location but the pizza changed drastically and then I heard it sold to a new owner. The sauce use to be very unique and the portions of toppings was incredible. The Santee location has always been great pizza and well worth the money. read more

3.5 stars. Came here for Christmas Eve for my husbands family gathering. We at family style plus a side salad for me. My salad was drenched in dressing- I actually had to pour it out to even enjoy the salad at all. There were also large green olives that weren't pitted- so odd given the ability to chip teeth on pitts. The family got about 6 medium pizzas-cheese, pepperoni and meatball. My family and I, as well as our friends, have been coming to this Filippi's location for years. It is always our 'go-to' favorite whenever we want a night out and don't want to travel very far from home. The service we have had here has always been great, no complaints on the service... kind of... We usually come here and stick to our regular order of a pizza and an antipasta salad. Let me start off by saying that the pizza is EXCELLENT! The cheese is always gooey and thick, and they are generous most of the time with their pepperoni, sometimes putting so much on it that it is laughable - but delicious! The crust is always perfect (and I have lately gotten into the bad habit of dipping it into some ranch... mmmm!) Salads are always fresh and crispy and are served with a loaf of french bread that is perfect for sopping into the salad dressing. The menu says that a small salad can serve 1-2 people, so we always get the large. The salad dressing... OHHHH maaaaan... I vaguely remember the location in Mission Valley bottling it and selling it, which I wish the Santee location would do. More about this later. Occasionally we splurge and get the cheesy bread which is phenomenal! Back to the salad... whenever we come for dine-in at the restaurant, the large salad is HUGE! It can easily feed 4 of us with leftovers to take home in one of those medium sized aluminum to-go containers. Always our favorite. The prices have gone up recently - which I understand - but for $17-ish dollars, it's still a good deal... Unless... you are ordering it to-go. The large to-go salad is packaged in the same container that they give you when you have done dine-in and ask for a to-go container, and a reasonable portion served 3 of us when we got it home, but again... in the restaurant, 4 easy - with leftovers. A tiny disappointing and I'm not sure why I continue to order the to-go salad, other than the fact that I'm addicted to their dressing. Now... to the dressing... EXCELLENT! Homemade, delicious! At one point you could get an extra cup of it for $3 or so, but again, the prices have gone up - understandably. That same cup is now just under $5. I say it's worth it. BUT... only if you get the large cup. The small for $2.49 is enough for one serving of salad. As for the staff... the wait staff has always been great! We frequently get lucky to have a server that has been there for years and is extremely friendly, very happy. As for the host-staff...eehhhhhhh.... they just seem so stressed out all the time that it makes for an uncomfortable situation while you are waiting for a table in the tiny waiting area... very stressed out. Even when they answer the phone for a pick up order. Next up... the tiny waiting area: I'm sure there isn't much that Filipi's would be able to do to expand it, without intruding on any table areas or the bar, but... it's SO tight... and people waiting to be seated or waiting to pay their tabs have been very patient all the times I have been there, but it is SO claustrophobic. And during busy times, you can't even get in to put your name in. They do have a bar area (kid friendly) that has some tables and a jukebox, it's a LITTLE noisy in there and has some wobbly tables but much less of a wait and a bit more casual. With that being said, that should tell you the popularity of the restaurant. The food is GREAT! I just wish that the management would take a closer look at the to-go salads that they are selling for nearly $18. Maybe a bigger to-go container? Met up with family at Filippi's on a Wednesday evening, we were sat fast and service was great. Ordered two large pizzas, wings and fried zucchini. My review is mainly for the pizzas and how they taste/are made. The pizzas were so overpacked with cheese that it made them almost inedible and not easy to eat at all. They also are not good the day after if you have leftovers which is a disappointment for me and my family as well. Great Pizza Fantastic for family get-togethers. Margaritas are potent and they have a full bar and have the ballgames on in the Bar Area with hot wings and mozzarella sticks. The Lasagna tastes more homemade than most other places we go and the pasta os good. Oh yeah the torpedoes and super torpedo sandwiches are something you should try. First time here and last. We always go to either the Little Italy or the PB location. We LOVE both. This time people from the company organized lunch here. Worst service. Slow and dismissive. Worst part the food. The dry overcooked meatball was falling in pieces and should be advertised as salt free. Overpriced pasta with flavorless sauces. Soggy subs. The antipasto salad had this odd flavor, we thought it was due to the old wilted lettuce. Our pizza was more cheese than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, but this one was all cheap cheese and almost non toppings. The other pepperoni pizza, had burnt inedible edges and the middle still doughy and sunk due the huge amount of cheese. When the server asked us if we wanted to order dessert, we all replied at the same time "no". We didn't want to risk another bad experience and we just wanted to leave! What could you improve? I've had bad experiences the last three times I've dealt with this location (Santee). The good thing about Filippis is they are not a one location restaurant. They have several throughout the county. So since this place won't see my business again, I can still get the same great food, just a little further down the road. I won't bore you with my experiences, but I will tell you this. The fact that nobody from the restaurant (owner or manager) reads their yelp reviews just shows their level of concern. Simply put, their behavior shows they don't care. They don't care about where they excel and/or where they fail. More importantly, they don't care about you and your input. Not caring. is the sure fire way to lose business and never recover. I'm just having to drive a little further. The way this location is going, I would end up driving to the next closest location eventually. This location isn't going to last. People will put up with quite a bit, but unaddressed, poor service will finally drive them away, especially when there are two other locations 15-20 minutes away. read more
