I almost feel bad giving Fillmore's Tavern 3 stars because our service was so amazing and our waitress couldn't have been nicer but there were just a few things that I couldn't let go. My friend ordered a burger medium and it came completely well done. Our wings we ordered hot and they couldn't have been more mild. After hearing so many good things about this local well known establishment we were able to come on over. Located away from all the restaurants in Fresh Meadows you might be confused like hubby was. Looks like you're heading to a friends house for dinner & drinks. This place is considered a landmark and is worth a visit. We came during COVID19 and we chose to seat in the outdoor patio which was comfortable. They have a full bar so you can order anything you want or have in mind. We ordered chicken wings, French onion soup, a black & blue burger and a chicken & gravy dish. The chicken wings were good and tasty the sauce is not spicy but has good flavor. The French onion soup according to hubby was delicious! Perfectly done and a great portion(check out the main pic, it's mine). The black & blue sandwich was delicious! Perfectly cooked with an amazing blue cheese sauce & crumble! Hubby liked his chicken with bacon & gravy. It was filing and the gravy had a great taste. This establishment feels out of place, as it's hidden in the middle of a residential neighborhood, not on a commercial strip. The building was built in 1912 as a tavern with a small bus depot, when most of Queens was still undeveloped farmland. The neighborhood grew up around it. Good food and good drink will be found here. It was a little bit of a trip coming out here, but it was worth it. The tavern has a very cozy, local vibe to it. There's lots of old ads hanging around the bar. They were bumping some timeless classic rock which I very much support. The bartender was prompt, accommodating and friendly. He greeted me as soon as I sat down and came back quickly to take my order. I came here with a ticket from the Queens Beer book, so my first drink was a good old Sam Adams Boston Lager. Cold and straight from the tap, it never disappoints. To eat, I ordered the chicken and chips, which are chicken fingers and steak fries. When in a bar, order bar food. It was great! After my food and beer, I ordered a peach schnapps. I wanted something fruity and easy to drink and I got my wish. Lastly, to close off my tab, I ordered a sidecar. As the bartender set it down in front of me, it was bigger than any sidecar I've ever seen. When I took a sip, it was stronger than any sidecar I've ever tasted. A nice local American restaurant/bar! I used to pass this place while going to work or coming back home, and I was always afraid of trying to get in. Why? You will know if you see the place from outside; there is no big window people can see through. There are only walls and blinded windows. cannot know what's going on there. Scared.. let's stay away. One day, one of my colleagues talked about this place. He said it was a nice place and his company loved the food there. Ok, he gave me enough confidence! My adventurous ego couldn't get me away from the restaurant, and yes I did it. I brought all my office-mates to the spot. Yes I told you I am a mean lunch planner! :P Do you remember those movie scenes that when a cowboy gets in a bar people there look back at him? and give the look? like "Who the hell are you?" We got that as we got in to the bar. Old people having glasses of cocktails and chatting quietly at the bar and the bartenders being busy serving things. Cool Cool! We were led to the dining area which I loved! Looks very cozy and warm like home.! YAY! Food-wise, I loved their burgers. I had Blackjack burger which is blackened THICK patty and jack cheese(?). Its category is not 'Sandwiches.' It is 'Sandwedges.' The patty was very juicy and thick! I loved it! Nice fries too! One of my office mates had pasta from lunch special, but he said it was ok.(I thought burger is the restaurant's specialty so I tried burger.) Did not know about this place until one of my school buddy took me here. Lots of history with the Fillmore Tavern like 102 years old. Taken these two paragraphs from the About Us page on their website. "Fillmore's original 2 story structure fronting 65th Avenue was built in 1912 as a tavern. The area was called "Kerosene Heights" by the locals because it was the last neighborhood in Flushing to be electrified. In 1913 a sitting room was added to the rear of the building. This room was set up as a bus depot and was used by women and children waiting for the bus that traveled along Nassau Blvd., now the LIE from Long Island City to Lake Success." Now, on to the ambiance- What a treasure? It's like cheers, where everyone knows one another. Saturday night football and it's the Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Bengals. 5+ TV screens in the bar area. Eyes glued onto the game as everyone waited with baited breath for the Pittsburgh Steelers to Win and advance on. The food. This is not your ordinary tavern, pub nor bar type of food. They really make delicious food. The Shepherd's Pie just warms and fills you up for their hearty ingredients on a cold night. Got a little crazy with the Twisted Ice Tea- That stuff is addicting. Wow! Fillmore's Tavern is a hidden gem in this part of Queens. I went with four guys and it was everybody's first time here. It's located in a super residential area and from the outside seemed like it would be kind of empty. We entered and for a weeknight this place had tons of people! Service is friendly and the food is pretty good. Wings were great, a little sweet and spicy but not overly either. Definitely go for their steak which comes sizzling on a plate. The crust is good enough that it's crispy yummy and comes with two sides. I ordered the meatloaf which seemed to me more like Salisbury steak. Portions were good and wasn't too bad but like I said the real winner is the steak. Burgers are great as well in addition to their sweet potato fries which are steak life fries but cut with waffle marks! Not too many beers on top but they have my beloved Blue Moon and Angry Orchard. This past Friday night, I was craving good bar food, and since it was a night before St. Pat's day, I wanted to avoid any craziness. So, went on Yelp to search for one closeby, and Fillmore's came up. Based on the reviews and seeing the location of this bar, I just had to hit this place up. The bar is tucked in a residential neighborhood. Honestly, I would never have expected a bar to be in that location. Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, I knew that I had to look for the pathway to the left of the bar, that leads to the back for the entrance. Every table and stool at the bar was taken, but lucky for us, there was one table available. So, it wasn't crowded; a good amount of people. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. It's March Madness, so they had the game on on every tv. There's a main bar area, and then towards the "front of the house", there is a dining area. The bar was your typical bar - clean, and the lighting was perfect - not dark, but not too bright. Our server told us the specials before we looked at the menu, which was really nice of her. We ordered the Black Angus Burger (that came with cole slaw and steak fries - about $9), and the March Madness special of 16 wings for $8 (the wings came with bread and butter - celery & bleu cheese). And a round of Blue Moon. Omg, the food was DELICIOUS!! I never expect much from bar food, but that was GREAT bar food. They cooked the burger exactly how I wanted it - medium - and it was tender. And usually, I'm not a huge fan of saucy wings because sometimes they come out too sweet or too salty. However, their wings are DIVINE!! Perfect amount of sauce, the perfect touch of sweetness. Wow!! It just felt good to have GOOD and AFFORDABLE food/drinks. I read other reviews about other items on their menu, and I really want to try their Sunday brunch. Went on St Patrick's day with a party of 4 adults and 1 kid. The dining area was full and the bar had a good crowd there. We got a booth near the bar. Waitress was prompt. The food took some time to come. I enjoyed the nachos. Ordered corned beef on rye (holiday menu)and it was really good. My husband had a burger which he liked, and our friends had Shepard pje and really enjoyed it. Also the steak fries were amazing. My kid had wings and they were over cooked and hard. I came here with a couple of friends before going to the movies and I'm glad we did. First this place is so hidden you wouldn't find it unless you are looking for it. I thought it was going to be empty since its in the middle of a very residential neighborhood but to my surprise it was packed and it took us half an hour to get a table. Which was fine we just got a drink at the bar while we waited. After we got a table we ordered wings and baked clams. The clams were good not the best I ever had but decent, the wings on the other hand were really good. A mix between buffalo and BBQ sauce. My parents raved about this place, so I guess my expectations were super high when I finally stumbled in here on a Friday night for dinner. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad, but the place itself is a little less than I expected. Our waitress was friendly enough, but as I walked from the bar into the back dining area I started to feel slightly turned off by the place. I mean, I expected a small seating area but there were about three empty tables that we passed on our way to our table that were full of half eaten food, that the bus boy or wait staff didn't bother cleaning off. It just kinda skeeved me out. So we order our food and drinks, no problem there. The burger that was supposed to change my cousin's life definitely fell short, as did the Shrimp Po Boy that I ordered. My thought when I first walked in was OK, this is a dive but maybe the food is amazing...yeah...No. Then we order a burger to go and the waitress totally screws up the order for a medium rare burger that we waited 20 minutes for. Which I think she forgot to put the order in, in the first place. The bar area seemed pretty lively though, and from the looks of the menu they have specials and happy hour almost every night. I would have no idea this place existed if I didn't have a friend who lived in the area. This place is in the middle of a residential area, which in my opinion makes it that much more attractive. It's out of the way and off the main road so this place is seldom busy. If it is, it's filled with locals. It was confusing figuring out where the entrance was at first, but eventually you get it. They got a couple of the standard beers on tap and the food menu is pretty standard. Generally, the food is pretty solid, but nothing spectacular. I used to love this place and have been going for decades, but due to a recent Uber Eats order and phone call with "Adam"? I will not be back. I ordered two $31.00 blackened steaks and the onion appetizer, with were fine, but the steak is listed as coming with fries and coleslaw. The fries were there, but there were two salads instead of Cole slaw. And that's also fine, substitutions happen, but there was no salad dressing. When I called to ask what happened to the Cole slaw the manager, or Adam, said "Cole slaw doesn't come with the steak" and I said "well that's what your uber eats menu says" and then after insisting I was the one who didn't order the salad dressing when given the opportunity he said "well what do you want me to do about it now?" Which is the wrong answer and completely unacceptable. I am trying to support a local business, I ordered $80 worth of food, either the menu is incorrect or the order was incorrect, but insisting the customer is incorrect and then saying "what do you want me to do about it" is terrible customer service. The food was really good (we got the roast beef special and brownie) and is tasty as usual. This is a solid neighborhood bar that does everything well. The food here is surprisingly excellent. They really take pride in the restaurant portion of their business. They also have a very family/kid friendly outdoor area and the friendliest waitresses. I feel lucky to live near this place. Their 14 steak wedge, formerly known as the Charlie Chan is on of my favs. They have their own blackening seasoning which they also sell. They use it on the meatloaf and blackjack burger, so good. The bar seems lively with an older crowd of local couples watching football. The waitresses are nice. I ordered the bottomless brunch which I was not aware was bottomless. It came with a muffin as well as an English muffin, sausages, bacon, eggs, home fries and pancake all served on a hot skillet. It came with coffee and for an extra $10 you can get bottomless drinks too. Also got a French onion soup. By the time I finished the waitress asked me if I wanted round 2 at which point I became aware that breakfast was bottomless! I've been coming here since I was a kid over 30 years now..best food and service in town. All the staff including the owner are always gracious and welcoming to customers new and old. They have the best wings I've ever had in my life. Cold beers and a good crowd any day/night you come here. During the covid shutdown Adam the owner kept the doors open running as a general store for the neighborhood to get stuff the grocery stores were limited on aswell as pumping out hundreds of meals to hospital workers and first responders. So I'm a sucker for good Irish food so I decided to try this place since it's in the neighborhood and seems popular enough. On entry I was a little shocked that it seemed so dated inside but hey, I'm not here to find an interior decorator I'm here for food right. The waitress was sweet as pie and helpful. We sat in the bar area because the dining room seemed too stuffy. We started with the baked clams which weren't great. They were mostly bread crumbs. For entrees I ordered the stuffed chicken and mashed and it was delicious. My hubby had the tri tip special with the mushroom gravy and mashed, also delicious and my son ordered the fish and chip and said it was the best he's ever had but they only give you one piece of fish and though it's a large piece he's 15 and 6' 4". One piece is not enough guys. Everything was excellent except the bill. I've eaten at much nicer Irish places with better food and it was cheaper. Don't get me wrong, the food was good but I really couldn't believe for three people our bill was over $100. At. An. Irish. Pub. A run down pub. Wowzer! Perhaps you have to be from this area to appreciate Filmore tavern. It feels very neighborhoody. What drew me here were the pretzels. Service took forever. The wait was seemingly endless. Everyone else seemed to be regulars and they were waited on first. So we waited and waited and waited. The pretzels were like street cart pretzels they were hard once I finally go them. I had a Salmon salad. But it had fake ice berg lettuce. Maybe neighborhood people think that is okay but soggy ice berg and Salmon is not something I want to pay for. My hubby said the beer wasn't cold by the time it came to us and the selection of beer was limited. The wings were mediocre. The fried ravioli was a nice touch since it is a St.Louis specialty. We uploaded the pictures in April last year. I was thinking we might go back but we just can't bring ourselves to go out of our way to go there again. It isn't bad but not our thing, long waits and mediocre food is not something we want to pay for or go out of our way to get to. Named after Millard Fillmore, this place has been around for over 100 years. Sadly in my 30 plus tears living in the area I'd never been here until recently. Now I can say that I have a neighborhood spot that I can walk to that has good drinks and food. The place is split up into two sections the bar which is in the back and the restaurant that's in the front. The bar is always hopping but the bartenders keep it moving freely. It's a great spot to grab a drink after a long days work. The restaurant has about 80 or so seats and has that classic tavern look. On my most recent trip the GF and I decided to eat here on a sat night. We were seated right away and the waitress, Shannon, was excited to hear that it was our first time eating there. The staff here is great. They really make you feel as if you are one of the family. I felt as if I had been coming there for years wit the way they treated us. It was really really great. As for the food I decided to get some wings because of all of the other great Yelp reviews. They were right on the money. Not as hot as I like them ( but that's because I'm a sadist when it comes to spicy) but perfectly cooked with a nice smokey sauce that they come bathed in. For our mains I got one of the specials that was swordfish with a salsa that had corn and black beans all on top of Mexican rice. They really know how to cook here. The fish was cooked perfectly with the right amount of spice and very moist. the rice too was cooked well with a nice kick to it. My GF got the blackend steak. That too, was cooked to perfection. It came out on a sizzling platter along with some sweet potato fries. Our waitress Shannon even brought out some honey mustard that she said went well with the fries and it did. All in all a really great place with fantastic people working there. Definitely a neighborhood joint that's worth a shot. I'm a local, so I had to try it. I saw it one day when I was jogging up that way, and was surprised that there was a bar in the middle of a completely residential neighborhood. Well, I thought that it was kind of slovenly that some patron had eaten most of the bar peanuts and left all the shells on the floor, but the bartender tells you to do that-- fine with me! adds to the quirk of the place. The place was freaking packed for dinner on a Sat night. We had to wait like 45 minutes for a table and by the time we got our food we were so full from the beers and peanuts we had while waiting first for the table and then for the food (the kitchen was backed up). The stuffed mushrooms were amazing, and the entrees were good, but I think I might have been too full to have fully appreciated them... Since I went from the bar to the table to the bar, I didn't get the buyback that was owed to me... and that made me sad. read more

He suggested Fillmore's because he's literally down the block and I'm just a 2 minute drive away. We befriended an awesome bartender Judy and she just kept the drinks coming. Despite it being low-key and in Fresh Meadows I had fun! Since then I went back quite often and brought new patrons to enjoy the generous buyback and food. Who would've thought they had good chow? The small dining area was packed and rightly so. The bar food surpassed our expectations for typical pub fare. The food is fresh, cooked well and rather delicious. We stuck to bar basics like wings, burgers, popcorn shrimp, & sweet potato fries though a couple people in our party ordered and enjoyed their steaks. You can always expect cheap(er) drinks in Queens. We walked out full with food, a few drinks each and our wallets only $40 lighter. There are many great pubs in the city but this one clearly stands out. My family came here for a dinner last week. They were running late so we sat in the bar area for a happy hour. They have a food cart (which had pasta) in it which is included with happy hour. The bar vibe is your typical towny bar but with loud music. Luckily, the front of the restaurant is at least slightly separate from the bar, with the music lowered and more restaurant-vibe. The food was actually better than expected, with a nice variety on the menu, typical bar-food. I loved my quesadilla, and the steak fries I snuck from my sister. Came here yesterday to watch football and grab a bite with my husband and 8 month old daughter. I'm not sure if it was the proprietor or manager who greeted us, but he was very welcoming.
