It has since evolved into a global phenomenon, most famously through Andrew Lloyd Webber's record-breaking musical. Webber's version is the famous version today which premiered in London in 1986. Since this was the 3rd time I saw Phantom, this one did not disappoint at all! The actors were phenomenal and all great theatrical effects were outstanding! A must see when you visit London!

Small theater, building is very unassuming. Inside is beautiful but ceiling is very low if seating toward the back of the stall. Plenty of restrooms, hardly waited my turn during the intermission. The cast was fantastic. Although the stage was significantly smaller than most of the theaters I've been to, the production was still incredible. When the entire cast was on stage it does look crowded (2 members bumped heads while dancing too close to each other) but the flow of the scenes is never lost. It's a lovely musical, you'll laugh, cry and fall in love with the vocals. Come see, you won't regret it.

Built in 1910, it is a classic of Edwardian design, with a richly decorated baroque and Adams-style interior. It is a Grade II listed historic building. It's also one of the largest venues in London, seating 1,700 in a broad auditorium. Taken over by the Ambassador Theatre Group in 2003, it is slowly being restored to its original condition. The theatre presents a varied repertoire, focusing on popular productions, including musicals, opera, comedy, special events and music performances. In recent years, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has had a season at Wimbledon, which has proved extremely popular (the acoustics are well suited to a full-sized orchestra). A speciality is performances designed for the whole family, such as tours from the Moscow State Circus, culminating in one of London's best pantomime seasons throughout December and January. We saw a stunning pro-am performance of 'La Cage aux Folles' there a few years ago, which beat the film versions hands down. The theatre has very good provision for those with disabilities - contact the box office in advance for details. Guide dogs are welcome and the theatre provides state-of-the-art infra-red listening systems. Although parking nearby is a little limited, patrons can use the Centrecourt Shopping Centre Car Park at a reduced rate (inform the box office to validate your ticket). Public transport provision is excellent, as the theatre is adjacent to the bus station, and just five minutes from Wimbledon station, for National Rail, underground and Croydon Tramlink.

Shakespeare's Globe is a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, which was completed in 1997. I…read morevisited with my husband on a recent trip to London earlier this month and had a great time. There are a couple of ways to experience the Globe. You can attend a performance (they typically have 1-2 performances per day at a range of rates) or you can tour the theater. The performance times didn't work well with our schedule (such a short trip), but we were able to fit in a tour, which was great. Our tour guide was wonderful. We started the tour inside the attached visitor/admission center, where he provided some context. Then we walked over to the theater itself and sat on each of the three levels to get a sense of the different individuals who attended Shakespeare's plays and how they would have experienced the performances they attended. We learned that the theater was built in 1599, when there was only bridge connecting Bankside and London. People either took barges across the river or - if they didn't have the money for a boat - walked to and across the bridge. We learned how much a performance cost for people sitting in different sections of the theater. We learned that the Globe burned down during a performance of Henry VIII in 1613 (the theater was rebuilt the following year but closed by 1642 and torn down in 1645). The modern recreation you can visit now is close to the original site (you can find the original site just a few steps away) and based on historical drawings and designs. It's as close to Shakespeare's Globe as we can get, and it's an incredible thing to see and experience. If you can fit in a performance, I'm sure it's amazing. But the tour was pretty great, too. I learned a lot about Shakespeare, the Globe, and London. We had a pretty tight schedule due to it being a shorter trip, and a tour of the Globe was a great way to take in such a historic and important site.

This is a replica of Shakespeare's theater which was built in the late 1990s. Originally, the idea was to mostly perform Shakespeare plays during the summer months, demonstrating exactly how those plays might have been seen in Elizabethan/Jacobean London. So, all-male casts, no modern technology, etc. Nowadays they make a lot more concessions with the aim of putting on enjoyable shows, but this is still an outdoor venue with a courtyard "groundlings" area that has no seats. The outer ring is covered and has wooden bench seating, with cushions available to rent. If you're a tourist who has spent the day hoofing it around this great city, you should probably make sure you have a seat. Furthermore, you might consider that a back-row seat would allow you to lean back, which you can't do in the other rows. This is very much a true professional theater experience. It's not just a gimmick; the original artistic director was no less than Sir Mark Rylance so you know you are going to see a high-quality production. However, the expertise on hand regarding the history of William Shakespeare makes for a very informative tour. I've done it multiple times and always loved it. But the production I saw of A Midsummer Night's Dream was lots of fun, easy to recommend. They involve the audience a lot, even bringing people on stage during actual scenes. Anyone who considers themselves a theater nerd owes themselves a visit. I strongly recommend the tour, and if you can make it to an actual show, you won't regret it. There are concession stands with a decent selection of snacks and drinks, alcoholic and otherwise. And there's a very large gift shop which was closed at the end of the show I went to, sadly. I would have bought something. But that's normal. NOTE: a second stage has been added to this complex, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. It's a traditional indoor theater. If you're booking tickets, you might want to make sure you know which stage it's on, as that greatly impacts the experience. ANOTHER NOTE: I spoke to some people who believed the final scene of the movie Hamnet was filmed here. Although that might sound right, it is incorrect. That sequence was all done at Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire.

It was easy to access drinks and snacks, and the every staff member I encountered was friendly, efficient, and helpful. I would absolutely see another show here! I'm confused why they call the floor 'stalls' but that's just me!!!

Went to the London Palladium last night to see Evita. Fantastic show in one of the world's great…read moretheaters! Evita is well worth any price to see. Rachel Ziegler delivers a truly remarkable performance. This production makes the most of the theater and incorporates the theater and its iconic outside balcony into the show. While the Palladium is an outstanding and beautiful theater, visiting this landmark to see Evita is a double treat. Highly recommend.

Its a great little theatre...the guys kept the queue moving and once inside it was easy to find loos, bars and seats...they did insist no glasses on the front row, plastic only - pretty sensible one would say. A great view from up there - probably the best seats, though frankly, I'm reckon you would get a good view from almost anywhere - the online chart showing seating available helps immensely when deciding It was a fantastic evening...yes, there were a few kids, but this was really one for the parents...you could tell with the exuberant not to say loud, contribution from the audience - everyone there was ready to participate, given the slightest chance This is a FUN evening with all the cast in good form, some excelling and I don't just mean the 2 leads. A few political asides, a few risque moments but basically it was a show to savour. The 3 musicians in the boxes were good too. It was probably a good thing they didn't invite anyone on the stage For me, the best performance came from Oscar Conlon-Morrey who literally threw himself into the part as Jack, the son. The theater is much smaller than other Broadway and West End theaters I've visited - with only 600-ish seats. That made it intimate and special for this play. We sat in the first row of the Royal/Dress Circle, and the seats and the view of the stage were excellent. There was a bar and bathrooms on that level - everything we needed for a great evening of theater. The location is great - plenty of options for a pre-theater dinner. And the theater is beautiful inside and puts on some great productions! I'd love to return.

They have improved all of the areas around the theater and it look spectacular. The show was wonderful and I always love how the performances use all areas of the theater including coming from the audience. I'm always recommend to my friends who are coming to London in the Summer that the Open Air Theater is a must, even before the West End.

Smack in the middle of Regent's Park is a small theatre performing classics…read morelike Shakespeare's Macbeth (edited for those 6 and older) and Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods. I was here with my uncle as a birthday gift to see Arthur Miller's The Crucible, a rather sad and scary tale of the Salem witch trials. Not exactly birthday material. The stage is quite minimal with very little in the way of set items or backgrounds. Some might not like it, but I found it quite releasing without being distracted by unnecessary props, you could focus on the performance of the actors. And what terrific performances they are. Great casting, great production, I was extremely pleased and found myself a little tearful at the end of the story. A couple of tips: - Dress in layers, because it might be warm when you sit down, but after not moving for an hour you're going to chill off. You'll want an extra coat and maybe a sweater or hat. Even in mid-June, it got cold. - When they break for intermission, don't dawdle. If you need to use the bathroom, you need to move quick to get ahead of the crowd. - Pictures are not permitted. So be sure your flash is off! ;-) - Arrive a little early and avoid the crowds. Would I return? Absolutely!
