I checked out the homebrew area which is in the back of the store. They have a decent selection of equipment and extracts but I didn't notice much in the way of malts or hops, and yeast but the area was small -probably 10x10. They have lots of winemaking supplies which seems to be equal in amount to the beer. The place sells their own wine and they have a wine tasting room adjacent to the shop so I get the impression the beer ingredients are secondary. I picked up an auto siphon which was equal in price to the online stores. I would probably not shop here unless I needed something and was in the area since the selection is slightly better at other local stores.

I had gone there many years ago and had many of the same complaints however about a year ago I retried and was pleasantly surprised by changes that were made. I now go every few weeks for different craft beers and other "necessities" and always find it to be very well stocked, clean, and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The best part about Total Discount - they let you do mix-six packs! From what I have found, they are one of the remaining stores in the area that allow this. I highly recommend them for anything you may need liquor wise and if you are into different craft beers, this is hands down the only place to go in Carroll County. Side note - no one has ever asked or tried to make a copy of my license there. My feeling of this story is that the cashier probably wanted to SCAN the barcode on the back of the ID. That's not for creating a database as the store is strictly prohibited from doing that by law unless the customer gives consent. Maryland DOES HIGHLY RECOMMEND that each store scan all IDs with liquor sales to ensure the ID isn't fake. Many stores have a policy to do this, due to State and Local pressure. Certainly you can't hold the store accountable for this.
