I've been coming to this Finley's for almost two years, and Mitchel has always done an amazing job. It's very hard to find a barber that can do a proper fade and also understand how to work with length/scissors. Mitchel takes his time and really focuses on his work, asking many questions before jumping in. I've come to really respect him and feel lucky to have stumbled on such a talented person. I recently asked for a very different cut and Mitchel pulled it off flawlessly. Logistically, I love the fact that I can book appointments online/over the phone, and I rarely have to wait which is a HUGE timesaver. I also find the hot face towel to be rather relaxing. Great haircut, in a traditional environment and with good grooming...but a very untraditional barber. So, good mix of the two flavors, Austin & a traditional barber shop setting. Finley gave me good service and waiting room while I waited until my appointment time, and when finished always provided me with different options to pay, lending itself to a modern touch. Overall, good services, amenities and quality haircut! Location is busy so a little difficult to find street parking, so forced me to park at the $35/3 hr rate at the time I scheduled, which was 11:30pm. Avoid going during peak time or park in a public lot that isn't close to Congress. Finley's as a barber shop was a little bit dirty, and the barber assigned didn't offer me the neck treatment for keeping the hair off, but that's all I saw off from the experience. read more

Just had my worst haircut in a decade here. I've been going here for several months but this time I felt rushed and walked out with a pompadour where the barber just trimmed the side to a 0.5 all the way up. No fade or anything. Usually really good service but I guess you never know when they will rush you for another client. I'd rather come back and reschedule than have to deal with this and wait for my hair to grow back. I showed the barber a video of the cut I wanted (a side to side video of me with it one year ago), along with pictures. A good barber is supposed to have good judgment and sense and ask the customer if they want it shorter as they're cutting... This barber just trimmed it all. The manager offered a gift certificate and wanted to "fix" the haircut. I specifically went here since I'm attending my sisters wedding next week. Big mistake! I don't know how you can fix a haircut without magically growing hair back from a 0.5. Never taking a chance here again. read more

I travel a lot and when I do I tend to make time to get a hair cut along the way. Typically it turns out great but this time that's not the case. I cut hair myself. I told the gentleman exactly what to do and he didn't come close. He cut my hair to be parted on the opposite side from my natural part. Not to mention with 6 barbers and 5 patrons in the shop they got to me 20 minutes past my scheduled appointment. $50 is too much to pay for a chop job - great clips would've been a better choice. I'm from out of town (California) and walked in on a Friday afternoon on vacation without any appointment looking for a place to do a female undercut. I'm not the typical customer obviously but they were quick and affordable and I love how fun my new hair is. I was really nervous about what felt like cutting a lot of hair off and shaving my head, but the barber was really interactive and checked with me each step that everything looked alright. I forgot his name, but he was tall with glasses and a beard. Super friendly and he gave me suggestions for styling and changing it up. Boyfriend came home desperate for wanting a haircut . We searched on yelp and found this as the top rated place for men's haircuts! So glad we did ! We called at 6:30 pm and got an appointment at 7:30pm the same day ! How awesome ! When we arrived we were offered beer and other drinks . We had to wait a good while but it was well work it. They had some fun books to read and comfy chairs so we were all good. He has made this his official new place to get a haircut. - just note that it is in downtown austin so plan accordingly to find parking. read more

Great place for haircut for men! Monday morning is pretty easy to walk in. You get the full service here. They offer you water, coffee or beer. They are expert hair cutters or barbers. Lastly they wash your hair after and can even give you a nice automatic vibrated shoulder massage. Definitely worth the $30 if you want a different hair cutting experience. read more

I moved to Austin from NJ and went to several places and had many supposed "barbers" before coming to Finleys. I met Cody and he has been my barber in Austin for the past 6 months so far. If you want an excellent fade and the freshest cut in Austin, ask for Cody. He is very precise and makes sure everything is consistent. I appreciate when someone takes their time to do the job right. I literally came to Finley's once a week to get my haircut for last several years. It was a great atmosphere, great service. But I just heard they let go about 15 stylists because of the coronavirus, which is terrible. There is news that the gov will support these businesses, but I know for a fact that the owners have a ton of money and could have helped support their stylists. Some of them are single parents trying to support their family. Shame on Finleys for this. You have lost a loyal customer, who came every single week. read more

Wow! Yesterday I saw Mitchel for a haircut and I am so impressed. This young man was so intense while cutting my hair and focused on what he was doing. I told him what I wanted before we got started and he made a couple of suggestions and then got started. The cut is amazing and the style is exactly what I wanted. This guy knows what he is doing and he is very talented. I think Finley's should schedule cuts on the :45 not the :30 because he needs the time to do his magic. This is the place to go if you want your haircut done right. I've always bounced around and never had a good barber. I just did the Supercuts route in the past to keep it cheap. But this is where the great stylists actually work. Yea it might be an extra $10-15, but it's a great spot and they do an excellent job. I pass the 3rd street location multiple times a day. Well I finally decided to go in and boy was I happy. I was greeted and shown to a back waiting area and offered a beverage. My stylist was Javier. He cut my hair and beard EXACTLY how I asked. He was pleasant and polite and professional. The atmosphere and ambiance was great. I was offered products for my beard and was on my way. The front desk gentleman and I got into a cool conversation about comics when he saw my D.C umbrella. Nice personal touch. I definitely plan on returning. read more

It depends who cuts your hair here, obviously, but the last experience I had was so bad I had to write a review. My old barber left (4+ years with her at the Finley's S Lamar location), so I tried a new one here. I'm a guy and I have short hair, and it's in an incredibly prototypical style. This haircut was going on 50 minutes and not nearing the end, so I asked what the ETA was and mentioned I had a sales call to make in 10 minutes (felt like allotting a full hour for a basic men's haircut was enough, always has been in the past). She started rushing through the last part, skipped the full wash/shampoo, skipped the neck shave and massage (skipped the shampoo/neck shave/massage all at my request, it was genuinely important to make it to the next meeting and we were already at the 1 hr 5 min mark), and when I left, I realized the haircut was genuinely left unfinished. I ended up leaving the chair an hour and ten minutes into the cut, and it was unfinished (like, the top of my hair has sections cut and some left uncut - I have to go to another barber today to fix it, ffs). I've never had a cut last longer than ~30 minutes, and for the past 4 years, they've been done well. I'm candidly almost impressed at what a mess this experience was. This alone is cause for me to stop going to Finley's and end my business there. read more

Came in with reference photos and the cut looked nothing like how the pictures did. On top of that, the cut seemed very rushed and she kept catching my helix piercing when she was tapering the sides. There was a few times where the clippers almost caught my piercing and yanked it out. Overall a rushed, painful haircut that looked nothing how the pictures I showed. This place is amazing, I've never had a bad haircut here. Tommy and Dorian are two of the best in Austin! Dorian gives one of if not the best fade you can ask for. They finish every cut with a neck shave and and a scented hot towel over your face while they shampoo your hair. The offer free 2 hour parking and complimentary beer and wine. Was on vacation in Austin leading into a business trip. Needed to get the beard and mustache trimmed/shaped while in Austin since I would not get a chance to go to my regular guy at home between trips. Made an appointment for 2. Showed up at 1:35ish. Was told someone will be able to take me early. No one came. Waited until 2 and went back to the front desk. Was told someone will be available at 3!!!!! Told them 3 times that I had made an appointment for 2 pm. Finally some one figured out that I was already checked in!!!! Next was the actual service. The guy seemed like this was his first job. Super confused and told me that he would not be able to use the blade nor provide the hot towels!!! Asked him if he intended on using the clippers on my face. He said "YES"!!!! Finally, he realized that wasn't flying with me and he broke out the towels and the blade. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE job. It was like pulling teeth just to get the beard and mustache touched up. All he had to do was the clean up along the lines where I had stubbles v the beard. 20 horrible minutes for a 10 min job. Never ever again will I go to any Finley's. read more
