To start, My dog Kali has been going here since she was a puppy. She's now almost 4, and they've provided impeccable services for her during her time with them. She has mostly positive associations with the vet, and has no issues jumping out of the car and in the door. They dote on her and treat her with nothing but attention and respect. Appointments are available, and Kali has had attention from all the vets with equal care and deliberation. I have no issue taking the first available vet when they ask if I have a preference, and I think that's a credit to their organization. Their customer service front is also remarkable, as they will often answer quickly and be able to pull files and follow-up appropriately. They give quotes where appropriate, and most recently, they gave quite good recommendations for optional treatments without any pressure to follow through on the optional stuff. Where it loses 1 star for me is pricing. I don't want to harp on it because I understand the economic pressures for veterinary clinics (which basically earn no money despite it seeming so expensive for care). I am happy to have the option to choose veterinary care based on treatment and great service, but also understand that it is not feasible for everyone (including me at times). When they asked for me to review them, I had no issues doing so. You always want to do stuff like this for people who've helped you, but we often need a little push and reminder to do so. There was no pressure with giving a high level review, as they genuinely want their clients and pets to be happy with the service they provide. I'm so happy we found Fire Mountain Vet, they take such good care of my pets. My nervous dog absolutely adores their doctors and staff and thats a huge deciding factor for me! We've seen all three doctors and probably every tech at this point and they all are just wonderful. They always give you a treatment plan with options for testing and treatments and do such a good job at actually explaining each step and procedure so that I know I am making the best and most informed health decisions for my pets. This Vet is untruthful and unethical!! Do not bring your pet here!! My cat went without medication for over two weeks because this Vet failed to order the medication my cat needed and never notified me that I could get my cats medication at another pharmacy. I was told the medication had to be "special ordered and paid for in advance". For two weeks, I called the vet multiple times requesting the meds and my calls were not returned. After two weeks of going without the medication my cat needed, I found out from a different veterinarian that I could obtain the medication for my cat at the local CVS pharmacy in 15 minutes. Fire Mountain Vet still refused to give me the prescription for the medication. The staff hung up on me and lied about our conversations. The Fire Mountain Vet was charging me $7 per pill and stated that the medication had to be special ordered and paid for in advance. This was a lie. Sure enough I was able to get the medication with a prescription from a different Veterinarian within 15 minutes at my local CVS pharmacy for $2 per pill. They are liars and unethical!! It is against the law to refuse to notify clients of their rights to get medications elsewhere. Pursuant to Cal Vet Med Board and section 4170(a)(6) and (7) of the Business and Professions Code, veterinarians must notify clients that they have a choice to obtain either the medication or a written prescription. However, what was most horrifying is that this Vet did not even ask once how my cat was doing after having his meds taken away for over two weeks. They didn't even care about my cats health and medical status. They did nothing to get my cat the medication he needed when they were well aware that he was without his necessary heart medication for over two weeks. Instead, they were rude to me, lied, hung up on me, and refused to provide a written prescription after numerous requests. I am horrified at how they treated my cat. We will never take our pets here again. Do your pet a favor and go to different Vet!! Stay away from Fire Mountain Vet. I visited Fire Mountain Vet Hospital on August 8 2024 to have my dog Wesley's ears cleaned. It appeared he may have had an infection in one ear (according to a previous vet.) I was charged $75 for the office visit and an additional $235 for the ear cleaning for a total of $310. I thought the charges seemed to be quite a bit more than I had expected. Now my dog has become DEAF in one ear and I have no recourse. I would find it extremely difficult to recommend Fire Mountain Vet Hospital to anyone else. read more

For a place that says they will work with animals and their fear, I honestly did not understand why my dog had to be muzzled. For a dog with no bite history, and not muzzled the first time they saw her, why muzzle her the second time just because you didn't have the time to work with her fear. The first time, she calmed down and trusted the vet tech with a bunch of treats, and nothing like that was done the second time. The front desk staff has two flavors, experienced and rude, or ditzy. The business model is what a lot of vets are doing. You wait to be taken to a treatment area, wait again for a tech to come in and take your concerns and do a starter exam, then the tech leaves and you wait again for the vet who has the (incomplete) concerns written by the tech, does a minimal exam then leaves, and you wait again for someone to come in for you to approve the costs. Then they upsell you everything they can think of.... a lot of it not necessary, and a 20 minutes worth of treatment appointment takes at least an hour or longer. I felt like I should have billed them for my time! read more

On April 9th 2024, i brought my beautiful little pug in to see Is fire mountain veterinary, because I was noticing a metallic smell, coming from his face... if I could give them 0 stars ...on Tuesday June 18th I had to put my dog down. Here is my story. When I came in to see the vet on April 9th the Doctor was told that I had noticed a metallic smell ,(And that his left eye was larger and had turned blue probably I thought It was a cataract. ),and that he had a yeast infection in his right ear. The vet examined my dog they looked in both ears , Checked his mouth and gums and made a comment that there was something going on on the right side of his mouth. They proceeded to give me an estimate of different charges the first of which was near a $1000 , they recommended A test that would confirm the type of bacteria so that he would get the correct type of medication. I did follow the instructions of the vet. $425 later, 5 medications including 2 weeks of antibiotics. At the end of the 2 weeks ,(closer 23 weeks), I did notify them and let them know that I had NOT seen improvement and I was upset about that. she stated that they could do another test and that test was $600 more on his ears .... I said I had already done a specific test you said do this test we will give the correct medicine and it did not work! At this point the reception is told me that if I wanted to I could get a second opinion at another veterinary hospital at which point I hung up. I did go to another Doctor it turns out that my poor dog had cancer in his mouth, That also was affecting his mandable and right side of his face.... the same side of his mouth that the Doctor had noted at fire mountain veterinary and did nothing about.... the same metallic smell that my dog was having that fire mountain veterinary did nothing about.... my dog suffered in additional 2 more months because of their inept ability to diagnose my dog correctly!! Do not take your dog here ever for anything! -- could my dog have survived ? probably not ... but... he didn't have to suffer and he did suffer .... and that is at the hands of the inept veterinary Doctor who didn't take the time to evaluate my dog properly. read more

This vet may actually harm your pet. Frist, please do yourself a favor and read the other negative reviews. When I moved I wanted to find a new quality vet who cares about my pets. After every pet visit I would always get a call the next day asking how my pet was. This is a very nice and thoughtful practice. I would suggest Fire Mountain apply the same strategy. Suggested lots of new expensive tests. Hesitantly agreed because I want my pet to be healthy. Vet assistant ensured me that these test are needed and would call the next day with the test results. Was suggested to me to get a new medication for my pet (Trio chewable) medication. Invoice came out to over $600. Seems really high. My appointment was on Friday. Saturday no call Sunday no call Monday no call Tuesday I finally called to see what was going on so the woman said oh I'm sorry let me get that for you and put me on hold. Waited for five minutes and line was disconnected. No one bothered to call back. Sent an email describing my disappointment and concern asking for a response or a refund. Never heard back from the email either. So frustrating I can't get ANY communication or response from Fire Mountain Vet. Decided to look up some reviews to see what others thought, while there are some positive reviews, there are many negative responses who have a similar experience to me. It became clear. Stay away from this vet. Friday - 1pm annual appointment. Over $600 bill for important lab work that needed to be done. Promised call back next day. Saturday no call. Sunday no call. Monday no call. Tuesday still no call?!?! Maisy needs to take her meds today, but without the lab results I don't know if it safe. Called FMVH, nice lady answered the phone and said oh sure I can get your records let me put you on hold for a moment. I was on hold for almost 5 minutes and hung up. Waited a couple hours, no one called back. Thinking they might be really busy at the time, a better approach would be to send them an email. I sent an email saying I was dissatisfied that I haven't received my lab results yet and can I either please have the lab results or offer me a refund. Never heard a response, back at all, by phone or email. Wednesday, still no response. So I looked up the owner of the company, and thought if I ran this company I would want to know how bad her customer experience is. I called, and asked to speak to Juli Salivas, and was told she wasn't in today but she would be in tomorrow. I said that's fine please be sure to have her call me tomorrow. She said she would pass the message along. Thursday, no call, no email, nothing. Friday, now I am really concerned, don't know what to do. I double check my phone just to be sure I didn't miss their call or voicemail. And sure enough I had no call or voicemail from them. So I thought maybe just by some off chance my cell phone was out of range or something it didn't actually come to my phone I looked up the records of my phone company and verified I've received no my phone number received no call from them when they said they called. Friday evening finally received a call from Juli (the owner), I conveyed my grievances to her, she understood. She didn't care. Juli literaly didn't care my Maisy suffered a lapse in her medication because her own company's negligence. But the truth is they never called, and they refuse to show any record of them calling me. Straight up deception. Stay away. There's something fundamentally wrong with this veterinary hospital. Happy ending Maisy is now safe and on her medication. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! I was looking for a new vet and I landed on fire mountain. I went to treat my dog ears. I went and they did the exam and I was told to come back another day to finish the services. I wasn't able to take my dog myself so I instructed the vet tech that someone else would be dropping my dog off and that the agreed upon treatment plan would be the only services that I would pay for. The tech agreed and said "i will take care of it." The person dropping off my dog had no knowledge of the treatment plan because I had made it clear that the only service i wanted was the ear cleaning. The Vet proceeded to give my SENIOR dog 4 different vaccines without my consent and my knowledge of the change in treatment. I did not know about the changes until it was already paid for. I called to get calification on why my dog had these extra services and the first time I was told 1) it was my fault for not sending someone who knew what the plan was 2) they changed the treatment plan on every visit (not told that in prior visit) 3) the services were already paid for so I would not receive a refund. All of this was after I had called earlier in the day to talk to a manager who did not call me back.Today I was on the phone with the manager and after a 10 min conversation where I was trying to understand all of this and get a refund for the services I did not approve I was hung up on by the manager. I will not be taking my pets here ever again and I hope this review helps people avoid the establishment. read more

The one star is not for the staff because the staff was very kind but misleading. Keep in mind, that I was coming from San Marcos going to Oceanside, which is about 25 minute drive but I was referred to this vet by a friend. So one star rating is for the fact that this vet does not have an ultrasound machine, but rather a mobile ultrasound person. You have to drop your pet off at 9 AM and they told me it would be about 3 hours for the ultrasound tech to show up. I left, burned time in O'side, called at noon. They then said that the tech would not be there until 3 pm. So I burned 3 more hours only to show back at the vet's office to be told that the tech had an emergency and wasn't going to show. Could I come back tomorrow in the morning? I told them no way was I going to go through this waiting again and to give me a refund. So, for $650 , which they will refund, I drove all the way out from San Marcos to Oside to have my poor dog in a kennel all day, no food, no water. We recently transferred all out pets to Fire Mountain Veterinary from another Oceanside "low cost" vet. 1 huge difference between Fire Mountain Vet and our previous vet is the ease of checking in during the pandemic. We were waiting up to 15 minutes to just get our check in phone call answered. Now at FM Vet, our call is answered immediately! The care that Dr. Vasilas and her staff have provided is amazing. Our babies are taken in curbside within minutes of checking in. Treatment quotes are clear and concise. Dr. Vasilas comes out to the car to discuss our pets treatment. Basically these guys are the best full stop. Here is why- I used to work at a vet chain business and it was still ridiculously difficult to make an appointment to get my dog seen. And crazy expensive- even with employee discount. Once I started taking Finny here everything got so much better. Robin at the front desk is an actual angel and is so genuine and professional. She gets stuff done so quickly. I just made an appointment for a travel certificate and dropped off forms that needed to be filled out for my new apartment and she was back to the car in five minutes flat with everything stamped and signed. I brought my 9.5 week old puppy to Fire Mountain for a health check and vaccinations. I noticed on my second visit in that my puppy's weight was not noted on the invoice as change from 14.33 to her current weight (19.6 lbs when they weighed her in front of me). This concerned me but I wasn't sure if maybe the invoice I received was just mis-noted. Ultimately I know that medicine dosages can be determined by a dogs weight and since the vet wouldn't have my dogs accurate weight it could be an issue. I then had concerns about some worms in my puppy's fecal and contacted the vet regarding them. I was directed to bring in a new fecal sample and they would have it lab tested (for $55). The results came back negative but they did not note the worms that were visible to the naked eye in the sample I provided. They never explained that the fecal test was limited to only certain parasites and that tapeworms would not be seen on the lab exam. Ultimately the receptionist seemed to be self diagnosing my dogs condition and never explained any type of consult with the vet regarding the worms. Ultimately they prescribed a medication for tape worms but I continued to see them in my puppy's stools. I called in last Saturday to inquire further about what treatment to take and the receptionist assured the vet would call me back. It is now Friday and I had not received a call. I called in today and expressed my frustration and the manager explained that they essentially had done all they could and the second dose of the medication should work; she passively brought up how on most visits for vaccines and what not the vet never sees her but the vitals were indicated so they could make the appropriate decision. I brought up the fact that my dogs weight did not change from the first visit to 27 days later (even though she has obviously grown upwards of 6 inches during that time) and the manager said they had weighed her on the 27th and 14.33 lbs was correct. I obviously knew there was no possible way she weighed the same 27 days apart with the growth I had seen and to the exact ounce as the first visit? I don't think so. I pushed the manager further and she changed she statement and said she had found a record that indicated that my puppy was 15 lbs on the second visit not the 14.33, but I have all the documents that show the weight was not changed to 15 lbs. She lied to me outright. On the second visit I watched the receptionist weigh my puppy and she was 19.6 lbs at that time. My issue is the untruthfulness of the staff, the omission of important details like her accurate weight, etc. How can a vet, looking at a piece of paper, tell if a puppy is being ill-effected by worms if they are the wrong vitals and weights for the pet. How can they prescribe a certain dosage without accurate information? When I addressed these concerns to the manager she said that the dosage was fine for up to 30 lbs so even if their weight was incorrect on their records, the dosage was fine. That. Wasn't. The. Point. All I care about is trusting the vet office I take my puppy to. I love her. I care about her well-being. The first visit we were assured that the vet could consult over the phone if we had questions along the way...but that obviously is incorrect since I have never actually reached the vet over the phone (even after being assured by the receptionist that the vet would call me last Saturday....which she never did). The integrity of this office is lacking and the solution as I expressed my concerns to the manager was, "if you can't trust us with the health of your pet then we may not be the office for you" and she passively said she would talk to the staff about accurately noting vitals (lol). She never would admit to lying about changing her story on my puppy's weight (from 14.33 to 15 lbs) when I confronted her. I rarely write reviews, but since the manager refused to let me speak to the vet (presumably the proprietor) and said she doesn't take complaints...I was compelled to come on here so hopefully the vet will see this and contact me herself. If a manager does not have someone they're accountable to, when a concern is brought about them, then the office will undoubtably go unchecked. Pretty sad honestly. Very dissatisfied. Also, forgot to initially note that the manager hung up on me when I was expressing my concerns and inquiring about speaking to her supervisor. Unprofessional. read more

A previous office I've gone to charges just over $150 & at another office recommended to me charges $94!!! For a profession that cares about animals I would think they would make it within reason for us to get the treatments we need. Hello! Oceanside resident here. I'm puzzled by any negative review, because Fire Mountain Vet Hospital is -- outstanding. I'm always warmly welcomed as soon as I walk inside. The staff is authentic/"real." They engage with my mixed-breed dog; doing their best to calm her. (Thumbs up!) Dr. Juli is a terrific and caring doctor. I get honest advice regarding current and future needs; kindly mindful of my budget. All of my questions get answered. They also dropped everything to help Dazey when she had an accident with a bike rider, when they showed pro-experience/compassion -- not only for my dog, but for ME, too! Their understanding and gentle reassurances meant much in a scary situation. So it blows my mind when I read anything negative about this totally positive place! Also: the exam rooms and waiting area are very clean and don't smell -- which I think shows a great degree pride in where they work and how they seriously care about providing a positive experience for pets AND their owners. I have extreme Vet anxiety.. my dog doesn't.. I do :) my fear is that I just can't afford whatever needs to be done and I'll be judged and treated like I don't love my dog. (side note: I love my dog) Fire Mountain Vet does not judge or behave in anyway like you have to be rich to love your pet. When presented with a treatment plan yesterday, they worked with me to prioritize what he needed and what was "good to have" until my dog was getting the care he needed and I wasn't hyperventilating because it broke the bank. If you have trust issues with different vets (like myself..;P) and need somewhere that is actually honest and caring, Fire Mountain is that place. I take my dog to a local doggy daycare called DogSpot and got referred to Fire Mountain from DogSpot's owner. I never usually feel comfortable taking my dog to the vet because I hate being told that I need 5 tests done even though I came in for a vaccination. Its hard to take a doctor's word for it if you feel like they are always looking for a quick buck. Fire Mountain never gave me any of these feelings the second I walked in. All their staff is very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. They treated my dog with nothing but love and even carried him in because he felt a little nervous. Dr. Dodds and Dr. Vasilas care so much about each pet coming in and they really make you feel it. You can tell it is more than a career for them, its a passion. They have always been honest with me and beyond sweet to Sidka. I know I can trust their word 100% and leave my little guy with them comfortably. Sidka and I will be long term clients of theirs for sure! :D We love you guys at Fire Mountain, you rock!! P.S. They are also handling the pandemic with curbside very well. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS I came to this vet being new from town and provided my previous vet records. My dog is prescribed a medication that she will have severe withdrawals if suddenly discontinued. After a $180 exam, and the doctor trying to prescribe my dog trazadone which is a human antipsychotic at all costs, I refused. She then prescribed her medication at 1/4 of her normal dose and told me they can't give out too many at once because they are regulated so I came back to weeks later for a refill. At this time I was informed I needed to look up past records of different medications she has tried, which I could not locate because I travel for a living and don't have established care at one vet. She then filled my medication again and said my dog will need yearly blood work to ensure good kidney function and she will continue to prescribe the medication. I called for her refill yesterday and they told me they no longer will prescribe me that medication because I couldn't locate my previous records, keep in mind I provided my lasts vets records and diagnosis to them which clearly states the medication she needs and is dependent on. After talking with an extremely rude staff member who downplayed the whole situation and wouldn't listen, she told me they were closed when I called ten minutes before. I told her if my dog has a medical emergency due to lack of medication she was prescribed under one of your doctors care, then their will be a lawsuit and that was it. I just received a email saying due to my threatening tone they have discontinued me as a patient and contacted Oceanside police. I have the whole phone call recorded and listened to it again this morning, at no time was any of that said. I would stay far away from this place and take your dog to a vet where they value your animals Heath and realize the dangers of discontinuing an addictive medication. I was also heavily pressed to buy $550 worth of heart worm and tick medication because they have seen "a record number of cases". read more

We love both drs. They are knowledgeable, caring, and provide excellent care. They practice fear free care and it shows. Appointments are staggered so that there are rarely others waiting in the waiting room. They do everything they can to make pets comfortable. We're going to be doing blood work tests regularly for a tick born disease probably the entire life of our German Shepherd and she still loves to see the vets.
